So have any of you guys seen a live tornato ?
I love them things , we only get small water ones.
I have, but only a very small one and was disappointed in it's lackluster performance as I stood on the shores of our cottage screaming at it around age 9 or 10..."Come on, bring it! That all you got!!" lol The updraft had pulled my new tent from it's pegs on the shore and dropped it into the middle of the lake...while it tore thru trees a mile or so away across the lake. My dad had to carry me inside to huddle with the rest of them, kicking and screaming. I don't have a death wish..but man do I, and have I ever loved violent weather.
Tropical Storm Bertha, is now officially Hurricane Bertha! National Hurricane Center
here is a satellite feed of it in near real time: Central Atlantic Visible Imagery - Satellite Services Division
It looks to pose no threat to the eastern seaboard and as my earliest predictions went...they seem to be spot on. If anyone lives in Bermuda, then I would suggest you start preparing as it looks on course.
Chances are it won't make it much stronger then a Cat. 2 at best as it heads for cooler waters in it's present steering conditions. It may pose a threat to the extreme northeast and canadian maritimes also...unless things change into the 72+ predictions. But also, I do tend to think it will head north then east and die off as a fairly uneventful first hurricane in thecold North Atlantic.
goid bless the dull drawn out weather we get in the uk
its the middle of summer in london and pissing down with rain as we speak.
But at least i aint gotta worry about coming home to a roofless house.
You guys have it much tougher than us!!
lol It's okay dude, I'm used to it. I am 14, and turned it in May. Now I rarely respond to these types of inquiries or feel the need to explain...BUT, to make it interesting...for a proper wager I can prove it. I have posted pics before and do have a webcam to verify. I can even give ya the finger in real time. ;)
By the way, Bertha has sadly deteriorated due to wind shear and several other factors into a weak Cat. 1. I expect it to eventually be drawn into a front and disappear. But fear not...there shall be more hurricanes, and I will be here to provide the info. as to their birth, growth...and subsequent movements. :)
Another low pressure system that formed off of the Cape Verde Islands is now turning into a tropical cyclone as it works its way west-northwest across the Atlantic, approximately 1300 kms from the Lesser Antilles and is expected to become a depression later today.
So far the season had produced:
- Tropical Storm Arthur which dissapated over the mountainous regions of Mexico
- Hurricane Bertha which grew to Cat. 3 before slowing in the cooler waters of the mid Atlantic, where it still slowly moves as a now Tropical Storm. It hasn't posed any threats to land, but is churning up some surf for Burmuda.
So this next low as shown in the map below is possibly the seasons next threat as will become more evident in the days that follow.
When you click on the map, by clicking the red circle in the bottom right in will give you more info as it progresses, with updates.

Here is a wide Atlantic satellite loop that will show it's progression. As well Bertha can be seen still meanering in the mid Atlantic.

*edit, this system ended up being Hurricane Dolly
Well.....out of no where we have Tropical storm "eduard ??" sitting 75 miles south of us in the gulf,As of 9:25 pm tonight it is not moving westward as predicted and is gaining strength.........If I do not post here Tomorrow late PM, Im floating down the Mississippi :boat: or haulin arse northbound on the Highway ;D.......If it was not for a very kickarse Job,I would most likely have gone back to Ca. years ago :-X
Yep, I've been following it and it looks like it may even heat up to hurricane status by landfall...although I doubt anything too major. I have been neglecting this posting, not following Dolly as closely on here I was planning to, but have been following the births and growths of these systems.
Bit close to home this one for you, eh, Spicoli? But not much to worry about me thinks...just too close to shore to build into much I doubt. Might make for a nice surf tho? :headscratch:
Here is a gulf satellite loop of it growing... Gulf of Mexico Visible Imagery - Satellite Services Division
My last prediction of a forming potential storm was on the mark, as I watched a formation off the Cape Verde Islands grow, and slowly move across the Atlantic, weakening, strengthening, to eventually become Hurricane Dolly striking Southwest Texas - Northeast Mexico.
Here is string of storms again bred off the Cape Verde islands moving their way across the Atlantic. The one in red I will be watching more closely as it so far has a westerly projection, keeping it over warmer waters with favorable conditions for growth. Behind it 2 other systems slightly weaker. The stronger the first formation gets, the chances are it saps the energy from the ocean for potential and dangerous growth of the others, but it is in the early stages so this is a first look at them. Much can change as predicting is tricky with so many variables, but it is worth an early look...

Tropical Storm Fay it is...
AccuWeather.com - Weather Blogs - Weather News
This one is coming like a straight right and not the left uppercut it appeared to be at first.7 days later and Fay is gaining & doing damage trudging inbound.Hour by Hour here :boat:..........;D ready to roll
As Tropical Storm Fay has shown, it doesn't take a monster hurricane to cause damage, pose a threat to life, and tally up economic woes as it meanders, causing flooding and fear...as it has making a record 4 landfalls in Florida.
But when monster major hurricanes are born, they are a thing to behold, and a thing to fear. With that in mind, and in the wake of Fay...meet hurricane Gustav.
AccuWeather.com - Weather Blogs - Weather News
It quickly formed in the warm waters of the Atlantic, in the Eastern Carribean approaching Haiti, as conditions at this time seem favorable for it to continue to grow and stengthen. Time and its interaction with land will tell the tale.
It began as a simple low pressure off the Cape Verde Islands of Africa, but met with conditions to not only survive the trip, but to now evolve to what it is, and what it will become. This one for sure is one to watch for all Gulf Coast residents. It has danger written all over it and the potential to turn into a category 3 or higher.

How do you spell Gustovff anyways ?.........:boat:
Gustov is the correct spelling.
Bobby Jindal is doing a good job so far, already ahead of the curve.
Well hey I knew it was without the FF's so VUCK OVV ;D
Local media in fool hysteria mode.I am a realist and understand full well the situation but locally way too much is uncertain, speculation and guess work right now.Come late Friday night,Sat. afternoon,we will have a clearer picture.Today was absolute chaos and just finding time to "Check" one self was near impossible. All of the local shelters and branches of SPCA have been evacuated and judging by the dealings with clientèle today, there frankly is just a bit of Panic taking over sound reasoning and an elevated sense of awareness. We had sooooo many request for Ace ,VX history's and misc. items ,I stopped counting at noon. You really have to bite your tounge when dealing with some,One of our receptionist was pretty freaked already, and every ten minutes here comes another wide eyed client who just watched the news and is declaring "It'll be a cat 5,direct hit and were doomed" (Word for word,I kid u not).Much is being tied together in conjunction with The anniversary of Katrina Tomorrow. We have ceased all boarding of animals, contacted our go to location and made arrangements in Northern Louisiana with a jump off point,if necessary to be Saturday night.A number of non essential staff are heading out tomorrow with a skeleton crew staying until the last minute......and 1 or 2 that may choose to ride it out with a couple of in depth medical cases, and to keep an all around watchful eye on this place :-X All clinic pets are tagged,up to date and ready to be evacuated with trailer on grounds.Should be interesting ?Biggest problem will be Gasoline.....again.Last time ,some wanna be thugs punched our tanks on the jeep and rental car in the immediate after math leaving them dry and imobile....this time they will not feel so daring.
Hope ya don't mind me Hijacking your thread Young blood,Sort of rambling but I had to get it off the shoulders and will post more here until it gets too hairy here.Might just grab the camera and throw some visuals into it......This ol' boy Gustov looks a bit pissed off and where ever it takes aim,Texas,Mississippi,Alabama,Florida,Ga. better be good to go!!!
Im all geared up and over prepared.............so now I get lost in some Boxing and just a few Fosters;D
Yo, you ain't hijicking'...you are adding. Is why I made this thread, to keep informed, from all perspectives. I'll handle the tracking of the systems unless anyone else wants to join in...and anyone and everyone interested and especially affected I hope adds too.
The more info. the better. And I hope all the hype is for not, as I know regardless of rebuilt levee's, the Big Easy does not need another direct hit...especially by a monster. So good luck, my friend.

Not knowing is killing me.Looks like shits pretty deep,Pretty sure I'm outta here come either sun.AM or night.Just trying to time the traffic and have to work around the counter-flow as you have only 3 ways to go,Texas,Mississippi or Florida.Have family in Florida but they have concerns with "Hanna" and /or Gustov.Looks like Gas is drying up fast....half the stations are empty and the others have massive waits. They have dispatched 1,500 national guard into the area and are very much prepped for what ever happens.....unlike last time. The huge concern in my immediate area is "The Harvey Canal" a few miles away...."Rita" busted it up and Corp of engineers repairs are not inspiring confidence,If we end up on the east side of winds,Many expect the Levees to fail and possibly the Flood gates........in that case we are the new city of Atlantis.Thay have armed guards at the ATM's and limit you to with drawls at the ones that remain functional. The clinic is evacuated and all staff with exception of myself and the owner remain.....It really is eerie how quite it is now.People have that wide eyed losing it look,Stress rules the day and starting to see some "doing dirt",Stealing empty gas cans off Lawn cutters trailers....also driving like lunatics,I passed 4 accidents coming home last night (3 mile drive).Anyway, just rambling with mind racing.
Heres a question,How in the hell do you transport 1100 VHS tapes and various Almanacs, score books and record books ??? Looks like ,In the worst case scenario.....My Collection will be a big anchor Lol
Hey Spicoli'; seriously bro', you need to jump somewhere you can come up Dallas way and stay here if need be. Got plenty of room.
Hopefully for LA and especially New Orleans, it follows some of the tracks which has it veering west close to landfall. Cuba is in for a big hit, and likely won't stop it's growth much. There is a high pressure system building to the east of the systems forecast path and could steer the system due west...so that it what meteorologists are watching for.
Storm surge tends to be greatest east of these systems, and is what is to be feared most as we have learned from the past. As it stands now, this warrants the hype and fear that is going on I would think. By tomorrow would should have a clearer idea just how close these predictions are and have been. But in any case, yup...pack those bags, be ready and again good luck Spicoli.
Legion, your a good man.I appreciate that one,But I think I'm heading up 59 through Mississippi and then doubling back down to get to Panama city the more I watch things. It really has/looks to veer to the west with a extreme arch so should avoid Florida entirely (?) but that would put us on the east side where the winds/rain are.Mother nayure does what she wants, when she wants.......all you can do is get out of the way, period!!
As well, watch yourself in Texas bud, looks to bring mass rain.....as well as those denm hurricane fleerers from down here Lol.They show the worst case scenarios on the News as far as people and the riff-raff.Were not a bad lot....but this place does have some social leeches amongst the good ones :-X. Just looked at a radar of the Tropics again,Its starting to resemble a teenager in high school on a sugar binge with all of those red dots ;D
Alright again.I know this is sporadic and beating an event to death, bad choice of words maybe, but frankly people....I need a place to put this,so here I am.The streets are pretty vacant and Ive seen the 1st Humvee's and geared up Guard personal sitting in front of the Rite-aid on the corner. They really are prepped this time And The looters and shooters will be held in check this time around. The West bank has been put under mandatory evacuation as of Tonight and The have instituted a Dusk to dawn curfew effective immediatly....."You will be deemed Suspicious and your activities will be investigated by Federal officials" (Thats just scary no matter what LOL)
I'm outta here tomorrow morning,Dont really know what is ahead but They are putting us on the east side of landfall and if that happens under a category 4.......we are history, not drama but thats a fact!!!I'm sitting here with 20 gallons of gas sitting in front of me (The natives are getting restless and are looking for fuel :-X).Car is packed up,cash on hand. You do alot of little odd things prepping for this.....Empty the refrigerator of foods and find reason to grill up all of the frozen stuff. There is nothing as bad as an Ice box that has been sitting with no electricity for 1 week or 2.Unless its the one out at work during Katrina with 2 deceased animals!!It really is grotesque.Sorry thats abit much!Time is ticking and I have that pre big fight feeling....nervous but focused.
Its actually funny in that Im sitting here trying to decide which fight tapes to salvage. The goofy shit that goes through your mind in times of this nature.Really hope to come on here in a few days from my home and just say "What an over reaction man,you were freaking " ;D I encourage anyone else along the Gulf to gear up and get out, dont know who else here lives in the gulf area but this one looks to cause buu-kuu flooding.
20 foot surf expected in parts of Fla. Pan handle.....I think I know where Im going ;D
One more thing, change the danm cat box before loosing power :-X.
Good luck mate.
Good luck Spicoli, let us know how things go.
Damn it the last time I watched the news Gustav was downgraded to a tropical storm after reading this thread I looked at National and Local Weather Forecast, Radar, Map and Report and it looks like I'll be down there with you:( Spicoli to get your power back on good luck with your property.
.
Barack Obama said in his speech last week "God loves America"
Well, God may love America, but he fucking hates New Orleans
Gustov............you PUSSY!!!! :peeker: 1500 miles driven,Magnolia fallen onto the Garage (so the neighbor says),4 shattered windows and electricity out for at least the next 5 days.Hope its back on when I get home Tomorrow night by some fluke, might miss Kats'/Diaz Saturday night.Least theres a home to get back to,all B.S aside, got REAL lucky this time....
And yeah.......I was freaking just a bit :-X:-X
Think I would move away, your stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea.If you go up high then your further up into the wind. If you go down low your going to drown in the cellar. Not good.
Glad to see things didn't turn out catastrophic for the Big Easy, Spicoli, and hope you get back home soon and find minimal damage and power on soon.
The tropics have certainly been active of late, producing cyclone after cyclone. Hannah caused a lot of mayhem as well as loss of life in Hispaniola, but hasn't intensified or taken the tracks expected, but looks like it will soon make a run into the South Eastern US as a TS or Cat. 1 hurricane.
Behind that is Ike, now a Cat. 4 fighting off wind shear to remain strong as it tracks towards Florida and will likely fluctuate. So if you live there, start paying attention and consider preparations. This looks like it could be a major cat. 3 or 4 on 5 days or so.
Behind that is Josephine, a tropical storm that is fighting heavy wind shear to keep it's formation, but seems as of now to have a northwesterly track not posing any immediate threat or concerns to land, if it even survives.
The season is now in its prime and most dangerous time, and will be for a while. So if you are a coastal resident, keep yourself informed and prepared.

Again, hope all is well Spicoli when you make it back.
I actually live in the Tampa Florida area so I'm always keeping my eye out when hurricanes are coming. I'm hoping we have another safe year, September is the worst month though.
The earlier predictions for hurricane Ike showed it heading into the east coast of Florida, but as of today the forecasting track has changed. As much as this is good news for east Florida, it isn't for gulf coast residents.
Ike has taken a south westerly track and as of now looks to be heading into Cuba. Although this will weaken its status, all signs point for it to be heading into the gulf. Once there, it should regain strength. Determining factors, such as how it interacts with land, any southern or northern deviation to track can and will change its current trajectory. The next 48 hours will be important in its development as well as direction. As of now, it is heading towards Cuba a Cat. 3, and will likely strengthen into a strong Cat. 4. Haiti, still reeling from hurricane Gustav and Hannah, is expected to take a glancing blow with TS winds and rain to an already saturated landscape.
No one seems to be saying much regarding it's potential track, for most northern gulf residents don't want to even consider the possibility of what could come. That being another strike very close to New Orleans. But as of now, early in the forecast, the possibility is definately there.
All gulf residents should be paying close attention to it.

Heads up Texas, here comes Ike.
After doing significant damage to Cuba, causing further loss of life in Haiti, reeking havoc throughout the Bahamas, it is now emerging into the Gulf of Mexico with all signs and conditions pointing to a rapid intensification with little wind shear, and favorable warm waters and eddies it its path allowing it to grow into a major hurricane by landfall.
