Jackson hasn't threatened anyone? Jackson gets away with corporate blackmail it's how he makes his living....he finds something offensive threatens a boycott and gets big money NASCAR, Toyota, etc. he's gotten a lot of them.
As for being "manufactured" that's fucking stupid he said what he said infront of a camera and while he was microphoned....how fucking stupid does one have to be to say what he said in that situation??? He could have waited until after the interview to have his private conversation but I guess thinking that makes me a racist, I'm happy you're here to call me out of it Kirkland
The vast majority of Americans ans Imus's employers found it racist. I'm happy to leave it there.
Jesse jackson does exactly what radical clerics Pat Robertson, James Dobson do. They all use the same shakedown tactics to make money and influence politicians, just Pat and James are far more successful than Jesse and don't get criticism or coverage of what they do. Let's agree that Jackson was stupid to say something in front of a camera even though he wasn't on air at the time and leave it at that. :)
I notice you still haven't said anything about the whiners comment. George Bush's latest corporate socialist bailout of Fanny and Freddy to prevent economic disaster caused by his own policies could see $10 gasoline and huge tax increases/double digit interest rates. How do you feel about that, or that the architect of scrapping all the banking regulations that led to the current meltdown is now McCain's chief economic advisor and could become the new Secretary to the Treasury?

Imus was the victim of a slow news week and everyone knows it
Some Americans ARE whiners(I figure you'll take time to try to aim a barb at me after reading that so go ahead).....some people like to complain and some people like to hype up this talk of recession which we're not yet in and some people like to think we're on the verge of another "Great Depression" and that is fucking ridiculous if you know anything about the "Great Depression" people are still buying Starbucks coffee and some people are still buying SUV's so things aren't ALL bad.
You can't just allow Freddy and Fannie to collapse that would be bad for the WORLD not just America.
Gramm isn't going to be the Secretary of the Treasury that is beyond frivilous...they were considering him as Ambassador to Belarus, Sec of the Treasury is a bit of a stretch from there ;D

Some Americans are whiners? That's a very elitist comment Lyle.
I'm surprised to see you endorsing socialism too. A socialist elitist. How about that.

It's not elitist it's a fact but to what extent it's a fact is up for questioning, some English people whine too, some Germans whine, and some Italians whine....and some French people don't.

Well buddy I heard it in context and Imus meant what he said, he meant "Pacman is black and got targeted by the police because of that"...why would Imus a guy who has DEDICATED (and continues to dedicate) ENTIRE SHOWS to race relations do that? No one he has had on said what he said was wrong and believe you me they would if they thaught he meant that "because Pacman is black he gets in trouble"....that's LAZY to think that you probably didn't even know about those shows about race relations but oh well you won't care because your opinion is already formed and you obviously dislike Imus....oh well I know I'll cry myself to sleep tonight because of it
Yes, my mind is made up. People form opinions based on the things they hear. Just like you have. You figure because Imus has shows on race relations that he isn't racist. I think regardless of the shows he puts on that he is, that those shows are probably more spin for him to polish up his sullied image. It's just a difference of opinion. The mere fact that Imus wasn't able to articulate what he meant the day after he said what he said about Jones is just evidence to me of his floundering like a fish out of water. I heard what he said and it made no sense. If anyone TRULY believes Pacman is being targeted for being black and nothing else you are a sucker! Pacman is being targeted because he keeps breaking the law and getting caught. Imus' comment either makes no sense or it was the further ranting of a racist. Let's see, someone who's gotten into trouble over racially insensitive remarks in the past, who couldn't deny using racial epithets in the past- I wonder which one it was. And stop it, Lyle, you and me both know I'm not personally attacking you don't try to act like because we don't agree that I'm trying to come after you. That's not the case in the least. I respect your opinion and hell, you knocked my socks off by showing you know more than I would expect out of anybody on here (some things that I don't even know), but at times you seem to knee-jerk lash out and us disagreeing certainly isn't a situation where we need to go down that path. Hell, you just gave me rep on us agreeing about the Klitschko-Thompson fight. I have my opinion on Imus, you have yours on him. The fact of it is, neither one of us really knows if he is a racist so the only thing we have to go on is the things he says and the things he does and we have separate interpretations of those things.
You called me lazy because I'm black, didn't you? Racist bastard.:-X

That's funny, America's CEOs must be a bunch of whiners too. They say the economy is "dismal."
Frustrated with the current economic policy, another CEO said, “The formula for international competitiveness is quite simple: minimal trade restrictions, predictable regulation, competitive tax rates, strong educational system, trade balance (not deficit), predictable currency, low interest rates, responsible fiscal spending and low corruption. Unfortunately, under the Bush administration, we have failed on many of the factors, with corruption and macroeconomic incompetence being the most insidious.”
-CEOs Portray a Dismal Forecast for the U.S.
Gas prices will not go down significantly while Bush keeps printing epic quantities of paper to keep up his socialist bailouts of failing banks and financial firms. I'm pretty sure it won't hit $200 this year but the only thing stopping it doing so eventually will be a recession, however the recession will still feature oil prices over $100 and thus inflationary to the economy as a whole.
Offshore drilling won't make any difference at all to the oil price, not one cent. Oil companies already own a ton of leases on areas they haven't bothered to drill in yet but they want more leases granted while the GOP is still in power so that the new assets pump their balance sheets up. Refiners have deliberately cut capacity for two decades to force their profit margins up.
Obama will raise the overall level of taxes corporations pay overall and rightly so. The entire tax system is currently so out of whack that it's going to prevent economic growth in the future. Corporations and top earners are going to have to pay a fairer share and the Reagan/Bushes Tax Increases on middle/low income earners reversed so that they have more money to spend. Until that happens real economic growth is going to be effectively at a standstill.

Jesse Jackson wants to cut them off. Did you hear about it? Because with the wall-to-wall media coverage of the ongoing disasters in Iraq and Afghanistan and their coverage of why we're having a financial meltdown I'm not sure if it got mentioned on TV. You's think they'd spend time covering the really important stuff like Obama's nuts rather than all that trivial Iraq/Afghanistan/meltdown stuff that's never off the teevee.

Lyle, there's experience and then there's experience. Bush has experience bankrupting at least 2 corporations, profiting greatly from being part-owner of the Rangers (and trading Sammy Sosa), and seeing Texas slide to 50th in education all before becoming Prez. Just because he had more than Obama doesn't mean it's a good thing.

Bush's presidency has uncannily followed his previous attempts at careers in business. Any day now I'm expecting a press conference where Bush announces that a consortium of his father's business buddies has taken over the presidency and will run the country until somebody competent has been found to take the job on.

The US already lost in Iraq, Iran won. Bush has managed to reduce the number of US soldiers being killed by putting the insurgents on the payroll so they're not as active as they used to be but this is not success. Strategically the US got its arse handed to it. Iran was playing chess while Bush was playing tiddlywinks.
Afghanistan is another war he started that he can't win. The outgoing US General in charge says that to win he'd need 450 000 troops when he only has 40 000. Pakistan isn't ever going to cooperate with us and it wouldn't make much difference if they did.
Obama won't be perfect but will not run the country into the ground like Bush has done/McCain will continue to do. It would actually be a good thing for America in the long run if McCain wins just so he can entirely fuck the country upside down. Then enough people will be forced to start paying attention to what's going on and fix it.
McCain flip flopped on offshore drilling too. He'll say anything to get elected. He'll change his position on things depending who he's speaking to. He's not just a flip flopper, he's a guy who holds two different positions on things simultaneously.

Re: Jesse Jackson wants to cut Obama's nuts off
McCain was opposed to offshore drilling but the American people aren't and he saw that and said "hey maybe we should drill" as did Florida Gov. Charlie Crist.
Obama voted for the FISA bill...talk about selling out! But that doesn't matter because Obama TRANSCENDS politics...he's a visionary and never panders to any group of people

Re: Jesse Jackson wants to cut Obama's nuts off
He has more experience than Obama, he's not going to tax the crap out of anyone, the capital gains tax will stay the same everyone knows the big economic boom we had under the Clinton years were helped a ton by #1 The .Com boom, #2 Welfare Reform (as done by the Republican Congress) #3 the cut in capital gains tax from 28% to 20%.

His great experience told him it would be a good idea to invade Iraq, and the US then invaded and got its arse handed to it by the Iranians. Obama thought invading Iraq would be a bad idea. So probably better to go for the guy with limited experience but a habit of getting the big decisions right.
McCain and the GOP will indeed tax the crap out of you. They've been increasing middle/low income people's share of the overall tax burden every year they've been in power since Reagan in 1980. Clinton reversed this a little but Bush reversed the reverse, leaving low/middle incomes with their biggest-ever share of the total tax burden in modern history. McCain will ramp up Bush's rob-the-poor-to-give-to-the-rich policies. Clinton's economic growth was done by balancing the budget which created the biggest investment boom in history,a boom that saw 22 million jobs created and the biggest-ever (Reagan/Bush 41) deficit turned into a huge surplus. Bush's boom was with borrowed money and failed disastrously, ruining the economy and creating less than five million jobs, record inflation, negligible investment. All while turning a surplus of hundreds of billions of dollars a year into record deficits. Clinton's boom produced tangible economic growth, far bigger GDP growth than under Bush41/43/Reagan all while cutting the deficits they'd built up and turning them into a surplus. The dotcom bubble only affected a small number of people with capital to invest and was not of Clinton's making. The Bush housing bubble is screwing Middle America, everybody who owns a home and was of Bush's making. Obama will actually cut taxes on low/middle income earners and rightly so. It's the only way the US economy can get going in the long term.
Capital gains tax is paid by people with actual investments, the top-earning couple of percent of the country. Cutting the tax only increases their income, has no bearing on the actual economy. It's a tax the elite pay a lot of because their income is inherited and not earned, so cutting it is a regressive step, a step away from rewarding hard work and enterprise and a step towards more handouts for moneyed elites and inherited wealth.
Only a small number of super-rich GOP people want capital gains to be cut and get the journalists that work for media outlets they own to push for cuts. Where did you read stuff about cutting capital gains being a good idea? Did you know that if you're really wealthy and can afford tax lawyers to deal with the IRS for you you can get all your income declared long-term capital gains and pay only 15% tax? That's only slightly more than you pay in payroll taxes, another tax that falls mainly on low/middle income earners. Payroll tax falls on the first $95000 of yearly income only, so if you earn ten million you still only pay the same payroll taxes as somebody who earns $95k. Why does no GOP politician ever call for a cut in payroll taxes, hmmm?

McCain's advice was to invade Iraq and no matter what advice McCain gave the US would still have ended having to hand over Iraq to the Iranians. On the single-biggest foreign policy decision of the last generation McCain got it dead wrong.
I notice you avoided the rest of the post. You really don't have any good reason to vote for McCain when you're forced to look at things objectively, do you?

I already explained to you how Obama will be far better for the economy than McCain. I don't think he'll have the courage to take unpopular decisions and moral clairty of a Jimmy Carter on the economy, but he'll be far better than McCain. MCain means existing economic problems will be exacerbated, Obama will try and repair some of the damage.
And also far better on foreign policy. That's probably why McCain is changing his foreign policy positions to pretty much the same as Obama's after previously saying Obama was wrong.
Obama would also be better on energy too. America's number one concern is energy independence. Obama would be far better on this too.
-
Re: Jesse Jackson wants to cut Obama's nuts off
OK so Obama not knowing anything about foreign relations is a plus, Obama wants to raise taxes like a motherfucker (whilst cutting Corporate taxes) and will get America to be energy independent without drilling for oil here AND without nuclear energy........You know what Kirkland, I like to dream too

Obama will be far better than McCain. I'm not saying he's going to be Jimmy Carter or anything but he'll definitely be better than the alternative.
-
Re: Jesse Jackson wants to cut Obama's nuts off
....did you think Jimmy Carter was a good President? If you do, you've lost any and all credibility in this arguement as Jimmy Carter was (aside from Herbert Hoover) the WORST President ever...it was the American public's bad judgement because Nixon (who was aside from Watergate a pretty good President) and Ford (another decent President only he was percieved as an idiot just because he fell down a lot) were percieved as bad guys and America wanted a "nice guy" to be President and we got one and his name was Jimmy Carter and he SUCKED ass!
-
Re: Jesse Jackson wants to cut Obama's nuts off
And Lyle, drilling for oil.
If the US drilled ANWR tomorrow then in 5-10 years it would start producing. But the maximum it could produce daily would be 750 000 barrels a day, or roughly 20% of the projected increase in US oil demand between now and 10 years' time. Domestic drilling is just a diversion by the GOP that also helps the balance sheets of oil companies. It's irrelevant to the overarching energy issue.
-
Re: Jesse Jackson wants to cut Obama's nuts off
Well if we're going to have to wait for it then all the more reason to start right now AND we need more refineries and that will drop the price of oil.
Natural gas is also something we need more of and we could drill for that as well.
Global Warming (supposedly) isn't going to dramatically affect us for 10-20 years so why worry? Want to rethink your reasoning now?

Jimmy Carter inherited double digit inflation and high unemployment, a collapsing dollar due to a foreign war and soaring oil prices in an economy much more dependent on cheap oil than the one today. He knew the only thing to bring oil prices down and kill inflation was to appoint a Fed chief that would raise interest rates dramatically, to basically engineer a recession, to drive inflation out of the economy. Electoral suicide but the right thing to do, the thing a moral and courageous national leader would do. And he did it.
Now look at the situation today. Faced with the same problems, the US needs somebody to get a grip on the current problems. McCain would cut huge chunks of tax for the nation's elites, causing bigger deficits and no economic growth. He'd have to print more dollars to cover the deficits which means increased inflation and consequently big increases in the price of the commodity most sensitive to Washington's print button, oil. And big increases in the oil price mean big increases in the price of goods and services which mean more inflation.....
Obama would probably make a reasonable attempt at tackling the problem. He'll have to contend with conservatives screaming for tax cuts for the wealthy as the only way to save the economy, but he can remind them how they reacted when Clinton raised taxes on the wealthy to balance the budget :
"I want to predict here tonight, that if we adopt this bill the American economy is going to get weaker and not stronger, the deficit four years from today will be higher than it is today and not lower ... When all is said and done, people will pay more taxes, the economy will create fewer jobs, the government will spend more money, and the American people will be worse off."
That was one of McCain's chief economic advisors in 1993.

Jimmy Carter was a simple minded peanut farmer and a PUSSY. I'm sure you only liked him because of NORML

The energy policy of the US government is to continue helping the oil and gas industries make as much money as possible. Energy policy is bought and paid for by the energy companies. This has to change. Neither guy goes remotely far enough, but Obama is the better guy.

Re: Jesse Jackson wants to cut Obama's nuts off
....Sorry, I don't like him...I don't know how many more times we have to go through this but I'm not voting for Obama. If something was to happen to McCain before the election I would be voting for Bob Barr and if something happened to him I'd vote for Nader......I'm not voting for Obama it's just that simple

I make a reasoned post full of facts and evidence and you reply by calling Carter a pussy. It's the facts and the evidence that'll get you every time.

Great points here Lyle.

Cold War and Iran Hostage.....Jimmy Carter = Pussy
And it's not just the way he acted it's the results he got. Reagan did the whole Iran-Contra deal but he got the RESULT of free hostages and Americans were mighty happy.
Jimmy Carter was an awful President!

Carter did an amazing job with Iran. If he'd sent troops to keep the Shah in power that'd be the equivalent of George Bush sending troops to Iraq to keep Saddam in power. He would have lumbered the US with a hugely expensive occupation facing an insurgency supplied by the USSR and China in a country four times bigger than Iraq with a ten times bigger (by number of people) insurgency. The country was already bankrupted by one needless dumbass foreign war in Vietnam and couldn't have managed another.
Reagan negotiated with the Iranians before the 1980 election and gave them arms in exchange for the release of the hostages, an epic act of scumbaggery that he eventually had to admit to :
Let's start with the part that is the most controversial. A few months ago I told the American people I did not trade arms for hostages. My heart and my best intentions still tell me that's true, but the facts and the evidence tell me it is not.
They were released during his inauguration. American networks showed a split screen of the hostages getting off the planne and Reagan taking the oath.

And negotiating with terrorists is a commendable action. We're always being told that negotiating with terrorists is bad and the sign of a weak leader. Except when it helps you win elections obviously. I see McCain and the White House are now adopting Obama's policy on Iran after previously saying it was wrong and dangerous.
Why was Jimmy Carter bad?

Re: Jesse Jackson wants to cut Obama's nuts off
Jimmy Carter was bad for a variety of reasons everything he did (and still does) is shit: the economy, energy, taxes, gas, foreign relations....so MAYBE Carter inherited a bad economy, he didn't turn it around, he made it worse

LOL, where would this forum be without Lyle. I've heard Carter called a bad president almost unanimously though what Laing said made sense. But now he is regarded as one of the foremost humanitarians on this planet yet Lyle still manages to find a way to slag him off. Great.

Hey Mother Teresa was a great humanitarian but it doesn't mean she'd be a good politician. Jimmy Carter has done some really good things like founding Habitat for Humanity but he made some very serious blunders.

Jimmy Carter did one good thing that Reagan immediately undid: he put solar panels on the White House. With the President doing it, surely the rest of the nation would have followed. Reagan helped hold the country back decades.
