Hatton is just a lovable guy but i admit his fans can turn you against a fighter and Hattons personna leads to him having a kind of cult following a kind of worshiping thing. Mind you its the same for upncoming power punchers they also have a dedicated sect.

I believe that a possible main driver for this perception can the nationalism that we have been speaking in one of the posts. And, there is noting wrong with that as long as we keep the respect for each other.

The fans bug some people, the style, etc.

And I thought we outlawed talking badly about Zab :confused: Zab is a true warrior and a gentleman, a poet actually.

I like hatton......

My Dad is a huge Hatton fan. Favorite fighter actually. Me, not so much. But I don't hate Hatton at all. But his fans are over the top at times, ie, Markus Darkus who said Danny Williams could beat anybody. How can you say Pavlik or Miranda fans are any worse then that? Come on now.

But anyone who saw him versus Collazo, the last 7 rounds versus Urango could find him boring and/or overrated. I personally think the Tackie fight was a great fight as was the Tszyu fight. But he does hug way to much. I like him though. I think Americans like him more then they hate him.

And yeah, I'm sure the Kostya Tszyu fans were thrilled with Dave Parris' selection as a ref. It's how every country works.

What evidence do you have that Americans hate Hatton?

I don't about anyone else, but I like and admire Hatton.

On the plus side:

He's humble and down-to-earth.
He trains hard and comes in shape to his fights (who cares how much he balloons in between?).
He doesn't talk sh*t about opponents.
He stirs emotions about boxing in a boxing-crazy country.
He gives his all inside the ring.
He takes on challenges (see: Mayweather).

On the minus side:

I don't like his fighting style (clinching and mauling just don't do it for me.... see: Hopkins).


That's it in a nutshell. What I did resent for awhile was how quickly people wanted to push Hatton up the p4p ladder sometimes past other, more deserving fighters. But that's not Hatton's fault.

They don't hate him personally, they hate his holding.

I didn't read all of posts but heres me thoughts...

I'm American and I don't hate him. Matter a fact almost all of the Americans I know here don't hate Hatton. Now let's not confuse not supporting/rooting for with hating.

For Hatton vs. Tszyu I was Tszyu all the way but on that night I think Hatton made a fan out of EVERYONE who tunned in that night. After a performance like that people are gonna expect the best from you. Hatton has looked far from what he did that night in June.

Since that night I was a fan I like his personality. He's funny as fuck and has charisma the atmosphere that the people bring to his fights is unlike any other that compared to Ali, ODLH, Tyson, Lennox etc. etc. I mean it was a football match just like in Man City out here in Vegas. That is insane... I found myself singing Ricky Hatton Land during his fights you just can't help it.

This thread can also be countered with why do the British hate PBF?

All in all I think Rickys good for boxing now if only he could deliver one more performance like in June of 05 and believe you me any boxing fan will applaud him.

Because we cant understand WTF he's saying half the time. ;D Heh i'm j/k I actually like him. He seems like a real cool cat outside the ring.

I don't dislike Hatton, I'm just not convinced he's much of a fighter. Granted a win over Tzsyu is a major accomplishment. Beating a badly faded Castillo was not. I really believe that a prime Castillo beat Hatton. Look at the reffing in his last fight and it should be clear why winning in Manchester is not perceived as that impressive.

I don't want to dislike Hatton and there's nothing wrong with his personality. It's his boxing style that's infuriating. It's not too late for Ricky to win over more American fans but I don't think a victory over Malinaggi will go very far.

Harsh, cant really disagree although ive met some nice people that follow Hatton.

I'm American, and I don't hate Ricky.

His one of the few guy that holds down a division and is still a champ. Plus his still UNDEFEATED in his division, 140.

He lost to one fighter, the p4p best at the time. Nothing to be a shame of, plus it was above his weight division. He suppose to lose that fight. Gotta praise every fighters courage, and Ricky is one bad ass brave warrior. Thats my type of fighter.

I dont hate Hatton. He is a common man. I do however think his fans are rather crazy at times. But that shows passion. I wish they would stop booing the star spangle banner. Now Calzaghe on the other hand I could care less if he drank gas and tried to piss out a brush fire. I really disliked his fans at the Manfredo Jr fight do to the classlesness.

I know some Hatton fans off board. Of course, they are not boxing addicts like us saddo folk.

Hatton hasnt always used the holding tactics its only the last few years he has been like this its as if he has forgot how to box on the inside without holding.

When he was fighting Mayweather in Vegas most Americans i talked to liked Hattons, cause he will give his all in the ring and is a nice bloke that will not ignore his fans.

I think americans do like hatton. I think what you see on this board is just a backlash against all the people who think Ricky Hatton is the greatest boxer ever.
