I believe he thought that standing in the center of the ring and trading with tony would be suicide, which isnt too far from the truth. But margarito hit paydirt with those uppercuts, and manny steward has said in many telecasts that cotto is susceptible to uppercuts. the way he holds his hands leaves him open up the center. if you saw the judah-cotto fight, zab realized that was his best shot at stoppin cotto. In round two he landed the first good one and you saw him keep tryin it the rest of the night. ricardo torres back and junior welter caught cotto with uppercuts. cotto, defensively has some mechanical issues. and judging from his emotional postfight interviews on espn, the loss did more damage psychologically.
Agreed, I'm still waiting for Mosely to start throwing uppercuts, that fight was his for the taking if he only threw the uppercut. Floyd has a great uppercut and thats what he would beat Cotto with.

Max: "That is a modern boxing classic'
Lamps: "Two great warriors that made a fight that will enter folklaw"
Max "It lived up to the hype it suparsed the hype a classic for the ages"
Lamps: "People will soon not forget what these two champions did tonite"

Lampley does what he's paid to do.
Publicise HBO fighters.
RTE do the same with Duddy, Lee and Dunne.
ITV do the same with Kahn and formerly Calzaghe.
Sky do the same with Ricky.
