That is assuming Floyd is retired I take it?
Re: Will Cotto ever be the same after tonight?
i BELIEVE that COTTO will be back. he's not your average joe, he's here in the business to do business. yeah TONY broke him down like COTTO has done to every boxer that faced him but a lesson taught and only COTTO knows what it is.
KEEP YOUR HEAD boricua (COTTO) you'll do fantanstic in your journey!!!!

He was still trying to win the fight up until the 11th....Cotto wasn't backing down from Tony he was punching as hard as he could but it just had no effect.
Margarito's chin is the best I have ever seen
But you cant deny the fact that Margarito pounded him into submission and made him bend his knee, Margarito didnt concuss Cotto, Miguel melted and wilted.. Tony took his heart and his will... If you looked in Cotto eyes in the corner during the 8th round he was already beat. You dont bounce back right away from that kind of ass lashing...
Margarito did to Cotto what Miguel did to so many others and when your the big dog on the block and another dog tears your ass up like that you get a case of limber tail mentally, not to mention Cotto has outstanding skill but also had that aura of invinceability and now thats gone...
Also ask Jeff Lacy how easy it is to come back from a beating like that... Cotto quit himself because he couldnt take in mentally anymore, it was beautiful, surreal and wrapped with a great big bow of irony

I mean Margarito never really hurt Cotto with any one punch, I don't think this fight will effect Cotto physically in the long run any more than the Mosley fight, but I think mentally its a whole different scenario. I just hope Cotto can get over it. He can still beat almost anyone else in the division, and like I said he might even beat Margarito the next time around if his nose doesn't get broken.
Im completely agree Taeth , that will not affect to Cotto , contrary of this he will get this in a positive sense , next time his routine of training will have to do some others adjustment , thats all...............he had dominating the fight until round 11 , i dont know how others can thinks that Cotto would not want fight Margaro again .............
you know Macho it would be nice if you were realistic for once... Cotto was not dominating the fight up to the 11th, he easily won the first 5 of 6 rounds with a few swing rounds after, but from the 8th round on Cotto was fading and getting grinded down.. Just admit it for once that Cotto isint invinceable:rolleyes:

Yeah CountryBoy , you can break down mentally when you know that cant breath bleeding and when your opponent putting you pressure....:-\
Cotto next time will come more harder , i know that he will take this for make another adjusments.......................
Re: Will Cotto ever be the same after tonight?
I think Cotto was taxed physically from moving and punching and punching and moving...his defense started to give a little and he tried to fight back but had no gas left.
I don't think Cotto quit, I think his body quit on him....his legs were gone by the 6th because he used them for power and for getting the hell out of dodge.
I think he's going to be fine and the next guy he fights is going to pay the price. Miguel is 27 he's not done by a long shot...he's not Jeff Lacy as Lacy wasn't a good BOXER and had not had success vs top teir competition like Cotto has and Jeff had a lot of injuries after the loss.
Cotto is going to be back just wait and see I think he proved his chin and his heart to be better than most guys.....listen who do you think would have taken that from Margarito and still been trying to KO him with big punches for about 6 rounds??? Lots of guys would have just gone down and stayed down and taken the easy way out, Cotto was always trying to win even if he didn't think he could do it towards the end. Just because he has one loss doesn't mean it's the end of his career....it was a hell of a beating but he's a warrior he'll be back

I think it was a matter of Tony drowning him late, I said all along Margarito would swim him out late in the fight and make him explore deep dark places mentally... I saw a prelude to that against Mosely when he couldnt break down Mosely and Mosely kept hitting him, and all of a sudden Cotto slammed it in reverse and never took a forward step the rest of the way, albeit he boxed beautifully but if Mosely was able to apply intelligent pressure than he would have beat Cotto similiar to the way Margarito did
Re: Will Cotto ever be the same after tonight?
But who else can take that punishment to do that to Cotto??? I doubt anyone other than Margarito can.
I think Cotto would have KO'd Paul Williams if he fought him like that

Shane Mosely took some helacious shots from Cotto and didnt blink, like I said in my above post, late in the fight if Mosely could have applied intelligent pressure he would have beat Cotto in a similiar fashion, maybe not as dramatic but would have

Yes and Shane is going to be around for a rematch???? I don't think so!
So as per my question, WHO ELSE aside from Margarito could take those shots and do that to Cotto?
De La Hoya???
Mayweather???
Berto?
Williams?
Cintron???
Some of those guys might outbox Miguel but if he lands like he did vs Tony then I doubt those guys beat him...they may go the distance but they won't keep that kind of pressure up no freaking way
Re: Will Cotto ever be the same after tonight?
no one is taking an ounce of anything from Cotto's body of work up to this point, the guy is great... its just after a fight like that guys just arent the same, its impossible to be... That fight was a head on wreck a train crash etc... And the mental scars will run deeper than any physical, thats the point of this thread will Cotto be the same? its not like he lost a UD or got concussed, he got pummeled and gave in and took the knee because he couldnt take it anymore, he in effect was forced to bow out and bend a knee at Tony's feet, you dont build up a career of doing that to guys and have it done to you and bounce back 10000%

No Macho!!! my only issue with you is saying that Cotto was dominating the fight up to the 11th, thats not true, if he was dominating the fight he wouldnt have quit because of the beating he sustained

Dream on ........ yeah it's hard to breath when someone exacts that beating on you. You act like hCotto had natural breathing problems . Somebody get this guy and poor Cotto a breathing apparatus so Cotto will not have an excuse and Macho's postings can hold some air.........
The term "Macho" in many instances is construed as being thick headed without the ability to reason due to pride !
Re: Will Cotto ever be the same after tonight?
That 2nd round was brutal.Maragrito got to that body in a huge way and almost dropped Cotto about 1;45 on the ropes with right to the body and I had him winning it clearly. This was not like Margarito just landed a lucky punch and ended it in late rounds.....it was sustained throughout .Tough, tough battle. These guys went to a place that can take a heavy toll over time.
