Re: Wal-Mart $19.99 boxing gloves?
OK I'll watch the video / videos whenever you send them, thanks! They should play fine on this computer.
I'm glad to hear Olivera was OK, poor guy. Was it just me or did his punches not have any sting to them? Like he was just pawing at Agustus most of the time... too tired or what? Also I saw a couple times Olivera would get Agustus against the ropes and be jabbing away at him while Agustus would lean back and seem to be laughing at him as if to say "Look at this silly guy punching away at me with no effect!" Also the way Olivera made the "pshh" noise every time he punched seemed funny.
My impression (though I probably don't know what I'm talking about ) was it looked to me like Olivera just kept throwing the same jabs all the time and they didn't have any sting to them and most of them were blocked by Agustus, while it seemed Agustus hit Olivera a lot but didn't have the power to knock him out... What do you think?
I didn't like Augstus's dancing by the way :( But I liked his combinations.
Also I found out I can find Mexican boxing on TV more often 8) It's in Spanish but I speak Spanish too so it's OK... I like watching those skinny lightweight guys go for 10 rounds like the Energizer Bunny never getting tired, it would seem... I really like watching boxing, I just haven't seen more than a few fights becuase I JUST got interested in it recently.

Olivera is a guy who throws 100 punches a round and doesnt reallyhit that hard. but he is getting older an less-efffective. It could have been so many things including the head injury.
i didnt see the fight so i cant say. but i know how they fight and have seen sgustus' dancing.
the jab is also used to control movement and that could be why he threw so many to control agustus more as I am sure he was the freher fight and oliver likes to have you right in front of him.
check you messages. ;)

Re: Wal-Mart $19.99 boxing gloves?
Oh... re: the jab controlling movement... yeah I remember the commentators said something like Olivera was jabbing a lot to keep Agustus nailed down so he wouldn't move around so much, since he's good at moving around all crazy... Something like that... They also said Olivera was no good at angles, only at coming straight at his opponent...

olivera also really only throws jabs and crosses.
the reason he is a decent fighter and good enough to be on tv is because of his workrate.

go to fightnews to get a schedule of fights that will be on tv
with experience and knowledge of fighting you will learn that the middle divisions require the most skill.

Re: Wal-Mart $19.99 boxing gloves?
Thanks... Looks like there's one coming up tomorrow on espn2! Carlos Quintana and Francisco Campos... at the Playboy Mansion? hahaha... how cool...
Also on Friday Night Fights they were making a big deal about CHRISTY MARTIN VS. LUCIA RIJKER!! Why is this a huge deal? Are they the top women fighters or something? Also they showed Layla Ali messing up Christy Martin and being really cocky about it.
They also showed how Martin and Rijker got in a bare-fisted brawl.
Is it just me or is women's boxing more drama and mean-spirited than men's boxing? Kinda seems odd... Especially some of the stuff Layla Ali said seemed unsportsmanlike (or unsportswomanlike?) and when she knocked Martin down she KICKED her??? WTF?
Crazy hijinks in women's boxing...
BTW I liked the little short white lady with curly hair who is a prison guard or something, I can't remember her name, she beat a taller girl with longer reach who was favored to win... She cracked me up when she capered around the ring at the end of the fight when she won... She made the taller girl look stupid during the fight too...

well everyone thinks that ali is the best because of her dad. she is one of the best female boxers yes. but honestly she still cant fight and would get torched by a lady named Ann Wolfe.
anyways Ali did beat Martin.. who is well past her prime and moved up in weight 20 pounds to fight ali.
martin and rijker would have been popular with most boxing fans 7-8 years ago because they were the best. It will probably sell more now because of the card called Million Dollar Lady and a lot of movie fans and people who have gotten into womens boxing because of it) will watch it.
rijker is the most talented and skilled female fighter i have ever seen. martin is probably considered the best bec ause of her accomplishments and she brought a lot of recognition to the sport.
my prediction is rijker will win, but really no boxing fans are interested in that. but a lot will buy the card because of Jorge Arce.

Re: Wal-Mart $19.99 boxing gloves?
I'm just a noob but since nobody is answering your glove question, here's my 2 cents... If that's the best training glove you can afford, buy it, because come on, be honest guys, that glove will work fine for training (which is what it says it is for). I guarantee it will work better than not having any gloves, which may be your only other option if you are poor :D Plus it's a helluva lot better than the crappy $19 gloves I bought, I can tell just by looking at it. Just don't forget someone is gonna have to lace them up for you if you buy those... That's why I like velcro, because I'm a sad lonely guy who has to train alone sometimes :'( :'(

well I would say if thats all you can afford there fine. but for only 20 more you can buy the same gloves i suggested for hellbore and be set for sure.
also, you can lace the gloves upu and then put your hand in them. they will fit, because hellbore in case you dont know they are designed so that your hand will fit with tape and gauze on it.

its ok to try to help, but you dont much about gloves because you started a topic for advice on gloves
my point of you being an idiot - do you really think $1 gloves would be ok for using during a match?
dont make me look like i am bullying you when you came on here with the expert attitude half the time and a admitted beginner the other 1/2
-
Re: Wal-Mart $19.99 boxing gloves?
Magnum's not a bully, he was really polite when I asked some kind of stupid questions... In fact it seemed like he was going out of his way to not make fun of me when he easily could have... I think the problem is you Turdbird.
One thing I have noticed in lots of hobbies and sports is that when you are new it works better to put away your pride and be humble because chances are most people you are talking to probably know more than you, so it's best not to act like you're a know it all when you're just a beginner... It's easier to get help that way...

Re: Wal-Mart $19.99 boxing gloves?
These are what I bought:
http://store.titleboxing.com/titlebo...ig-gloves.html
These are some others that were suggested to me that I like, but I didn't get them because I wanted velcro:
http://store.titleboxing.com/title-p...ng-gloves.html
Hey guys this brings up another question..
My training gloves I bought are designed to be used with handwraps under them, correct? Well I don't really know anything about hand wraps. Will the gloves not work right without my hands wrapped?
I found this, can I use this instead for training and sparring?
http://store.titleboxing.com/evergel-glove-wraps.html
Thanks
-
Re: Wal-Mart $19.99 boxing gloves?
they will work fine without handwraps.
handwraps are to protect your hand from being injured...they are like a soft cast made up of gauze and tape
those wraps you suggested are for use without gloves
but you can use the handwraps like these under them : (not suggesting these, this is just to show the type)

Re: Wal-Mart $19.99 boxing gloves?
I have another question, regarding bag gloves...
I used to only use these kind of bag gloves:
http://store.everlastboxing.com/ever...-glv-4307.html
I was hurting my hands... Now I use these:
http://store.everlastboxing.com/ever...ag-gloves.html
But I don't like these very much either for 1 reason: It seems like the padding on the front, where my fist strikes the bag, is uneven. The padding seems to stick out more towards my fingertips. What this does is when I hit the bag, it makes my punch put uneven pressure on my fist that tries to bend my wrist.
Is this a common problem, would better bag gloves fix it? Or is it just me?
Here, I drew a picture to illustrate what I am talking about: (I'm not an artist so try not to laugh!)
The yellow is my arm and fist inside the bag glove, the gray is the bag glove

Re: Wal-Mart $19.99 boxing gloves?
Oh... My heavy bag came with hand wraps like those but I didn't know what they were so I just chucked them in my workout bag :)
Now i'll have to learn how to wrap my hands maybe...

hey just for future refernce come on here and ask first so you dont waste money
well you cant wear handwraps with bag gloves because your hands wont fit so you definitly need to get better bag gloves in the future
for now i would use the gloves you ordered the other day while hitting the bag (heavy bag)
some of it does have to do with you not knowing exactly how to do all the small things to make you punch as correct as it can be.

its not to hard to wrap your hands.

But there might be an exception to that... The $19.99 elastic-only, non-adjustable cartoony Wal-Mart gloves were also Everlast ;DÂ
My friend was arguing with me earlier, he said hey, they can't be too bad, even if they were only $20, they are EVERLAST! That is a good brand, they must be good. I dunno, they seem crappy to me... Plus I noticed NO boxing store sells them, only Wal-Mart...
you got my point I was going to make.
they sell these things at walmart because people see the name and think they must be good because there everlast. also dont blame everlast for taking advantage, i didnt make the point because I thought you might be too poor to afford anything else.
I used to work for wal-mart for ten years and can tell you that the gloves you bought may have been made by everlast but they are not quality stuff, probably made just for kids to horse around with. Hard to believe everlast would stoop so low to make such a product but hey they need to make money too. From my experience at wal-mart there is a reason there is a site called WalMartSucks.com, cause most of their stuff does (suck that is).

Re: Wal-Mart $19.99 boxing gloves?
What bag gloves would you suggest for a 70 lb. Nevatear bag, you know what bag I have right?
Actually there was a mixup, the thin speed bag gloves came with a different bag my Dad bought years ago, it was a softer bag and it didn't hurt with those gloves on. The funky gloves that I don't like with the uneven padding came with my new bag, the one we talked about. So I guess the good news is I didn't have to waste money on them.

i am still the same guy thats been helping you.
how much do you want to spend

Re: Wal-Mart $19.99 boxing gloves?
Well, I'd rather not spend more than 50 bucks on bag gloves, in fact, why do I need separate bag gloves, it is better to use bag gloves rather than just hitting the bag with training gloves?
I will spend whatever I have to though to get some gloves that don't feel like shyte... The same gloves I have are like $24 on titleboxing.com so I definitely don't want to buy cheap ones again.
BTW I know you're the same guy, I just like to include all the info in case someone else reads the thread and wanted to say something. Thanks for all your help so far by the way.

Re: Wal-Mart $19.99 boxing gloves?
I have two pair of Everlast Velcro 12 oz gloves that I use to box with my friends/enemies/other. And they work Great! I got them at a sporting good store for 25 bucks a pair on sale. So I consider them to be good gloves. I have also used century gloves and crappy lace up flea market ones. The Century black ones, also 12oz were good and probably equal to my Everlast ones, except they were elastic. Any way Everlast is a good brand IMO.

Re: Wal-Mart $19.99 boxing gloves?
Well listen, if you ask a Pro Ice hockey player(NHL), what is the most important piece of ice hockey equipment to you... they will ALL say "good quality ice skates"...so if you ask me about cheap boxing gloves, I don't recommend a cheap pair of boxing gloves because you could hurt your hands or wrist... as a boxer I think my gloves are the #1 most important piece of equipment if I'm boxing... rememeber that old say..."you get what you paid for"... sometimes it doesn't hurt to spend a couple extra bucks to get a decent pair of gloves. Cruiser
