I dont think Johnsons camp came to an agreement with Haye, asking for too much money or something ?
I think its a good test fight to see if he can hang with the big guys. Barret looked in damn good shape against Fields, so hopefully he comes into this with the same mindset. I think this could be a decent fight.
a fully focused Barrett can give any fighter problems. I think this will be a better fight than some people think, its not going to simply be a blowout IMO
I was really hoping for Oleg Maskaev, Hasim Rahman, Tony Thompson, John Ruiz, or especially Nicolai Valuev.
Y'know, top 10 with marketable names, but guys that I think Haye could look impressive against.
Not much to gain right now from fighting Chagaev, Ibragimov, Virchis, Dimetrenko, James Toney, Arreola,
A few fights in with the first guys listed, then bring on the more dangerous fights with Wladimir Klitschko, Povetkin, or Sam Peter.
F'in Monte Barrett.
Haye better knock him out quick, like 2 or 3 rds quicks, or his stock goes right down.
This goes 2 rounds TOPS;)
Haye will blow him away and fast.
I'm happy with Monte Barrett as Hayes next opponent - its a good choice and Barrett can pose some problems and is a decent size. No point rushibg in with the big boys of the division.
Barrett has mixed in good company, is a recognisable name and has a decent set of skills.
Still he's going to get knocked out and its a good step in the division for Haye. Hopefully more fighters won't be tied up or hiding for Hayes 2nd bout.
Barrett is from Queens,NY, so I know a bit about him. He has had shaky management and promotion through his career (once they picked him right out of the audience, and he won a 10 round decision on ESPN). He has paid for it in his physical and mental conditioning over the years. Now that he is older, he is resurgant, more focused. He only wants to be ready to beat the person in front of him. I personally think that the fight with Valuev made him realize his actual potential.
Haye needs to come out hard and end the fight in the first few rounds. If not, Barret has enough power and ability to catch Haye at some point throughout its course.
Haye early or Barret late.
Hedging my bets? Of course.;D
At last, someone has stepped up to Haye's plate.Haye is very hungry indeed!;D
Couldn't really have been anyone more decent at such short notice, this is an ok first HW fight for Haye I think. Of course he should win in good fashon, but Barrett is not a bum and he can hurt men much bigger than Haye. Makes for a good measuring stick for sure, if Haye blasts him out dead early maybe not so much, but I'd expect Barret to get some rounds in and check Haye's chin and worth at HW a little.
Haye will blow barrets ass up exactly what haye needs, action in the ring not with his mouth. Decent opponet very little chance barret beats him but not exactly some bum. Good move for haye...finally fight time enough with all this garbage acting like everyone else is scared of him.
took long enough but haye 2rd ko
couple years back competitve fight for haye
still like barret for exposing tye fields though
Im looking forward to this Barrett ain't no mug
Haye will do a better job on him than Klitschko, Rahman and Valuev did. No doubt.
I like Haye and I like Barret a lot. Barret has a champion's heart.
It should be a good fight for a little while. Monte Barret has spoiled a couple hot prospects before, maybe he does it again.
What happens if Barret catches Haye on the chin with that overhand right that wobbled Valuev and KO'd Tye Fields?
\\And how will he do better than Wladdy did? Some of you have grand illusions.
Barrett is a disappointing choice by Haye. So much for taking the Heavyweight division by storm. It was only a couple of fights ago that Barrett got knocked the fukk out by Cliff Couser. He's done as a competitive fighter.
Thing is Denise...that Haye had to get a top ten fighter in to satisfy the needs of Setanta (the channel who are showing it).
With that in mind i don't think (actually i know for fact) that he really had much "choice" on who he could fight more a case of who he could still get.
Half the fighters approached simply do not wanna risk coming to London to get bashed up for a non title fight, it's that simple and i don't see Barret as a bad choice at all and trust mwhen i tell you that David would fight Wlad tommorow if he could, he's that sort of mentality about him.
He may pull off his dream and get the world strap he may lose and be slated by loads of people but he will give you one hell of a ride in the process and will always try and take the other fighters head off in the process.
Haye puts him out in 1 maybe 2 rounds imo.
i smell upseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!
Lets go Barret ;D
there couldnt be a better opponent to kickstart hayes heavyweight career. i expect haye to win in a few rounds but as barrets proved before, hes no pushover.
