Re: Margarito - Mosely? -hell yeah.
If this fight happens my bet will favor TONY!!
Shane is good but his better days are behind him. What he did agianst Mayorga was great but it came at the 12th round and Mayorga let himself get hit like he usaually does that weakens him. TONY is not Mayorga.....TONY is someone out to put you out of your misery. In this case Shane will move about get his flurries and continue that routine..wait kinda reminds me COTTO...still with TONYs' reach and length he will cut the ring short for him and we will see a repeat of TONY vs. COTTO. If Shane decides to brawl with TONY then the fight will end soon and that's all she wrote for Shane.
That's what i think and Shane will be a great fighter/boxer regardless the outcome!!
Kuddos for Shane!!

Mosely is a brawler. A lot of people fail to see that. Mosely doesn't box from the outside or pick shots, mosely likes to bang. He's a great counter puncher but he does his best work when he's banging - all Margi does. How much of a Margi onslaught can shane take? And does shane really dish out more than cotto could?
Alot could go wrong here. In shanes favor he will utilise his clinch often, cotto only clinched twice in his fight with margi. Shane isn't a defensive wizzard. Infact, when on the retreat, Cottos defense is far superior than Shane. Shane will catch alot more leather than cotto did and will do so willingly. I don't see this ending pretty for Shane. (based on the shane we know and love.. very possible he comes to fight with a different plan on fight night though).
I do however, think this is a gorgeous match on paper because of their styles and this is going to be an incredible fight. What Shane shows up though? The shane who lets his hands go? Or the Shane who at times shies from throwing any punches and will literally stand in front of his opponent fending off pot shots.
so, you think maybe he got some false confidence (about his size and power) after the Mayorga KO?
i think the main idea here is that Sugar is becoming B-hop esque, in that he taking any big fights he can to cement his legacy, and for the money too of course.
i also think a similar point here is being made as to the RJJ comment on 24/7-- if Sugar wins, he gets the title and a significant bump in the all time p4p ratings; if he loses, he's still Sugar. for Margarito it's just the opposite- if he wins, he keeps the status quo; if he loses, his historical rating drops significantly and maybe the fans get a decent rematch out of the deal.
botom line, he can't let the guy cotto beat, beat him.
No, not false confidence at all. It's just.. Mosley was best at 135...Margi is the secodn biggest 147 in the business, and is still considered a pretty big 154. Size matters. It is what destroyed Cotto and Cotto defeated Mosely in a great fight.

dude, i was with you until you said that-
i can't stand "the tWink"... i hope he fights Pavlik and Kelly puts a glove through his face.
The first time Margi fought a Shell was in Clottey who does't throw near as much as winky and isn't as durable. Winky is a pressure fighter from his shell, Clottey is a counter puncher from it. Which means margi gets hit more against winky than he did clottey and lands less. IMO, Winky easily beats Margi.

This won't be a repeat of Cotto-Margarito. Cotto showed everyone what NOT to do against Margarito. Shane will use that as a blueprint and train particularly in the things Cotto didn't do. Remember: thought Mosley is a small welter, he's fought at JMW several times against bigger guys (Winky, Oscar, Vargas & Mayorga). Oscar has a much better pedigree than Margarito and the version who last fought Mosley would be Margarito. Any version of Winky would embarrass Margarito and Vargas and Mayorga would just be good fun for everyone involved.
This will be a beautiful fight.
Mosley WILL brawl. But he will do a whole lot of what Clottey was successful with against Margarito. Being first to the punch and landing combos at will. Margarito's work-rate will be stunted and midway through the fight to maybe the 9th round he will look a little gunshy because he will be getting popped before and after every punch. Shane has a little more wisdom than Cotto and he will clinch when he needs it. Look for him to have a high work-rate because he won't be touching any weights. This is all about speed and stamina and Mosley has never had a problem with either. Look for Margarito to start KO hunting in rounds 11 and 12. I wouldn't be surprised if Mosley gets knocked down twice.
Great points.. but I'm afraid your pointing out great things from a shane of yesteryear. If the Shane who fought Mayorga shows up, then what? Mayorga should have been a punching bag, that went 12 rounds before the KO.
In Shanes last fights we have had no idea which shane is showing up. He shows up against Vargas and hardly punches. Then he shows up in a rematch and punches. Shane at this stage of his career has gotten very gun shy during rounds.. Remember his second with with oscar? Not only did he not pull the trigger, he didn't even take the gun out of the holster.
If Shane shows up with this frame of mind which is very possible then there is a problem.
Re: Margarito - Mosely? -hell yeah.
Margarito UD. Maybe he even stops Mosley. Margarito takes a lot of punches but his skills are underrated and he's scarily relentless.
Re: Margarito - Mosely? -hell yeah.
Shane is the more skilled fighter...no question. And you can never discount a great champion with a great heart. That being said...Shane has gotten up there in age. I believe it will be a great fight...both guys will not back down...but i just think Margarito's relentless style will be too much for Shane AT THIS STAGE of his career. Win or lose...you have to give mad props to Mosely for taking this fight. A lot fighters at his age would look for easy bouts toward the end of their careers. But he is taking on the best fighters in the division.
Re: Margarito - Mosely? -hell yeah.
Margarito will win this in my mind no doubt.
He might even get a stoppage win.
Re: Margarito - Mosely? -hell yeah.
Shane Mosley gets disheartened in fights just look at his face against. Winky Wright, Vernon Forrest. And there isn't a more dishearten fighter than Antonio Margarito.
