I don't care if you voted for McCain or for Obama, you have to respect what John McCain is trying to do for boxing....he's one of the few guys who really cares about the sport AND he's in a position where he could help change the sport for the better
Having it universal that you cant have walk in the door contracts? You know a contract that the fighter signs while he's getting taped, and didnt have a chance to read?
Eliminating double dipping on a fighters money?
Making it universal that fighters have to, at the very least, have a HIV/Hep test?
Making sure the gate reciepts are equitable to the fighters purses by an occasional audit?
Whatever would I do?
I mean other then what I allready do?
Make it universal, and create some National oversight board, because the states wont do it on their own, theyve had more then enough chances and warnings. And there are way too many scumballs out there who will gleefully exploit the loophole in their regulations to make a buck.
Universal oversight, wont affect me one wit,I allready play the game that way,and anyone who got driven out of the sport because they couldnt abide by fair universal laws, buh bye.
I can't disagree with you, TM, but I just have a feeling that what's really going to happen is your going to trade up in the bully market. Now the bully will have force of law. It won't end corruption and some how, some way boxers will still get screwed. What will really happen is "altruistic" types will have fatter pockets.

;D Hey guys, I'm not sure that everyone here really understands the impact of this bill. I started 'browsing' the "Actual Text" (not the report on findings) of the bill and there is some real eye opening stuff in it and It looks like there will be some huge impacts for everyone involved boxing including the promoters, the sanctioning bodies and ratings and of course the intent of the bill which is to provide some fairness and protection to the fighters when it gets passed.
GovTrack: H.R. 523: Text of Legislation, Introduced in House

Just like they have to get a federal license to run a casino, they'll have to establish a commission and agree to abide by the law if they want hold championship boxing within those casinos. I don't see a damn thing wrong with this - this environment surrounding this sport needs some accountability, and the current sanctioning bodies have failed miserably in that sense. Hell, if it had been solely up to the current commission, Shane Mosley would have been pummeled with plaster-capped fists rather than beating down Margarito for the title a few weeks ago.
If McCain can get rid of the dumb-ass open-scoring (I know that's not in there, but I know he doesn't like it himself so maybe he'll slip an 'earmark' in ;)), make professional boxing licenses bondable across all 50 states (so if you're banned in NY you can't skip over to Vegas to fight), and have a body outside the sport itself monitoring the promotors/casino owners/commissioners and the legal contracts they make with one another, how could that be bad for the sport?
-- And he needs to add a bit in there about the qualifications of judges. Ah - and Kellerman. Damn, I think I actually have a list around here somewhere....
What do you mean "sovereign nation shit"? They are a sovereign nation, why does McCain have any say governing foreign nations?
Indian Reservations are not sovereign nations. They were given the territory and right to govern that territory under the auspices of the US Government (their conqueror). Furthermore, McCain is only demanding that they conduct and report on their sporting activities - he isn't governing anyone. Calm down.
Anyway, I'm not here to discuss the plight of the American Indian - my comment is addressing the Bill proposed by McCain as it applies to boxing.
