Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
I think its crazy to just automatically put Mayweather past JMM, but lets say he does beat him. I said it before the De La Hoya fight and before the Hatton fight and thats that Pacquiao is the best in the world. Not only does he win but he puts butts on the canvas! Yea Floyds undefeated this and that but he's never beat Pacman, and I dont believe he can. Manny's more active, throws combinations "Faster" yes I said faster, and can take any punch mayweather can throw! Good fight yes, but Pacquiao is unstopable right now!

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
I can't make a prediction until I see Floyd against Marquez.
But it does seem that everyone is split and very extreme. It's either Manny will knock Floyd out or Floyd will give Manny a boxing lesson. I think this fight is going to be legendary! Not in the sense of action but in the sense of two styles mixing in a tactical fight. It would be a showcase of epic proportions!
-The world's best offense VS The world's best defense
-Current P4P champ VS Former P4P champ
-Will VS Skill
-Humble VS Flashy
-Speed VS Speed / Power VS Tactics
-Southpaw VS Orthodox
-This eras two best fighters: Manny Pacquiao VS Floyd Mayweather Jr.
All-in-all, this will be a fight that neither of the two fighters have met opponents like each other.
(I feel like I just promoted this fight)

A lot of people expect Mayweather to run and counter punch, but I think he comes forward with his hands held high, thats how he likes to fight southpaws, and unlike Oscar or Hatton he is still really hard to hit, especially if you start throwing combinations, because he is still really light on his feet and has those amazing reflexes. Like I said Manny is so much a pure counter puncher as much as he catches you while he is going backwards. Hatton is easy for anyone with speed to counter, Paulie was albe to do it when he threw his right hand, Collazo did it all night, as did Mayweather. If you have the speed to react to Hatton he is wide open for the counter. Against Oscar, Manny didn't counter as much as move away and attack when Oscar was chasing. I personally consider counter punching when you slip a punch and connect solidly ala Roy JOnes Jr. Judah has as good of countering skills as anyone when he is a) sharp and b) throwing punches. I could see Mayweather coming forward and not giving Pacquiao the oppertunity to get off punches. LIkewise I can see Pacquiao throwing 10 punches where Judah woudln't throw anything and force Mayweather to be defensive and win on aggression and output.
That's a good point and C-Lo puts it well too. I really am racking my brains over this one.
Comparing their Hatton fights both guys countered him well as he was coming in, but Pac did it way more often as PBF would allow Hatton to come close enough to hold a high p[ercentage of the time. This could be down to speed, or also down to Pac's aggressive tendencies (responding to fire with immediate fire) and Mayweather's more cautious approach.
One thing's for sure is that if Pac's strategy is to blindly attack then he's fucked. But if he comes in smart while incorporating double jabs and feints AND maintaining a high output to keep Floyd busy, then I think his punches are just compact enough to through and maybe get the decision.

Very well summarized Mr. C-Lo .... PAC and PBF are the top 2 boxers in running for "Fighter of the Decade" accolade... PAC vs. PBF is indeed The Fight... PBF vs. JMM is the tune-up fight...;)

Good post. A chess match indeed. Will Mayweather lay back and counter or will he press the action? Manny will probably have a clear strategy if Mayweather will decides to counter most of the night. I will see him darting in and out. Potshots here and there. Now if Floyd pushes the action with hands raised as you mentioned, Manny will have to learn to effectively fight backwards or work the angels. I remember this was the strategy of Morales in the second fight. They felt Manny could not fight backwards. You actually see Morales lunging after MP.
Tough to call. I see the first few rounds to be feeling rounds with each fighter wanting to impress during the last 15 secs of the round. Floyd's jab will be the key in keeping Manny off balanced. Manny will have to catch floyd using an angled approach and hurt him to turn the tide in his favor. Whoever keeps his cool and sticks to his gameplan will win. If both will stick to their game plan and keep their cool...its a draw for me.
If Manny gets frustrated and start throwing bombs he loses. If Floyd becomes lazy and gets caught with a whopper, he goes down.
Forecast: Floyd comes forward. Uses his jab effectively. Will win a few early rounds. Manny will measure, keep his cool and adjust. Manny catches him and hurts him in the 9th round. Floyd will fight defensively there after. Manny will start applying pressure and goes on to win the fight via 11th round stoppage.

Mayweather has to big a head to come into the fight as well prepared as Pacquiao.
This shows me how little you know of PBF. The guy puts on this lazy, trash-talking, takes-noone-serious, bad-guy act but he isnt that. Mayweather trains like someone one the verge of mad. He wakes up at 3AM sometimes and runs 10 miles just because he feels like it. I can tell you Manny is no way more determined a fighter than Floyd is.
Quote:
If he gets his head straight in preparing for a fight with Pacquiao, he has a chance but he will underestimate Pacquiao speed, same as everyone, and his lack of respect will be his downfall.
He has pretended lack of respect ever since Arturo Gatti (whom he massacred). He never underestimates noone. He trains mad for everyone, everyone. Look, he has called all his opponents bums, has-beens, whatever but on fight night you could definately see he didnt train like he though that. Dont get fooled by the act.[/quote]
All this stuff is just opinions on styles, we'll only know what is reality if they face each other, but you got me on this one... I don't know if he would really underestimate Pac, mentally speaking. I unfailrly to Mayweather Jr. misassociated a lot of uncle's, and Daddy's comments with out really thinking about the origins.

but he doesn't have the counter punching technique of Judah, and I wonder how he would deal with Mayweather coming forward and putting pressure on him like he did against Judah
I think Pac has shown us he's not that bad of a counter puncher. Watch all Kos vs Hatton and they are all counter punches. Sure, Hatton is no speedster and snail mails his punches but still. Same thing with David Diaz who went down from a counter punch. Then again, David who?
Quote:
He'll pin point Floyd weaknesses
Which weaknesses/flaws? Can we really mention a single CLEAR weakness/flaw? He has beaten EVERY style out there: speedsters, brawlers, boxers, punchers, etc. Has he ever been down? Has he ever been bruised/cut?

C-Lo,
You should sent all that to Bob Arum and try to make a buck!
C-Lo never ceases to amaze me. Not only a PacFan but also a Filipino who doesn't see Pac as an invincible god who is perfect with no flaw/weakness whatsoever and could face heavyweights and beat them. Probably the only PacFan and Filipino around the forum who thinks that way.
Cheers mate!

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
I just finished watching Judah-Mayweather. PBF was off balanced a lot in that fight and Judah failed to capitalize. Judah knocked down Floyd in 2nd round with a short counter right hook. Roach must focus on that imo. Judah didn't have trouble landing his straight lefts in the first five rounds, but somehow Floyd nuetralized it in mid-rounds. Pac needs to watch out for Floyd's double jabs and the quick left hook.
Lol! Yoel Judah is 1 funny dude. "1,2,3,4! bam bam boom bing bang boom!" Wtf ;D

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
I picked Paquiao, based on his being the currently more active fighter. I realize that Mayweather is pretty much always in shape anyway, but a long lay off at the end of your career is never good. He will probably prove me wrong.
Both fighters are type A personalities and will definitely bring their master game come fight night. I just think Floyd's master game will involve too much defense and not enough punch output.
I think Pac will win a UD by being the more active fighter. I don't think either fighter gets seriously hurt in this one.
By the way there's a lot of talk about Pac getting a gift of a decision against JMM in their 2nd meeting. I thought he won it and I'm a fan of both.
-
Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
Quote:

Not sure if being more active grants you the decision. Look at ODLH, he chased Floyd through the fight, threw flurries, etc. And nothing. Out of the flurries he would connect a punch or two which wouldn't hurt Floyd. Floyd would later pop Oscar with a straight right and so on. A true chess match having both guys completely clean and not hurt at all after the last bell.
-
Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
The fight between two evils. I think Mayweather would own Pacquiao and he would KO him in 8 rounds. Mayweather has pinpoint accuracy and excellent defense and I just can't see Pacquiao beating Mayweather.
-
Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
Asain Sensation, where did you find the whole fight? or was it a summary?
Im sure Mayweather and his team will go back over that fight and correct the mistakes he made against Judah. Mayweather hadnt fought a good southpaw in ages so wasnt used to them at all. I am 100% sure Roger will be watching that fight with his notebook fixing everything they need to change so they wont make those same mistakes. Also they will watch the fights vs Marquez, who as many believe beat PAC, see what he did and do better (which I am sure they can do).
Agreed Chino (especially about C-Lo and his great post), Oscar was throwing twice as much as Floyd and landing half throughout the fight according to Compubox. I really dont see volume as an issue. Also I think that fight was Mayweather's worst, most lackluster performance, its like he wasnt as into it, he looked very lazy idk

I can see Pac's speed being a problem, but only for a couple of rounds.

Hmm. I guess I'll go with PBF.
Pac is dangerous and Floyd will have to be very careful ... but he will be very careful, and he will school Manny.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
Respect to a great in Marquez,I'm mute on this one.I think Marquez has his back too the wall in many ways vs Mayweather, and think Mayweather takes a decision......but kick me in the azz if I ever see him as an after thought or a formality!!.........Too many ifs, mights, maybes for me,inside and outside the ring. But ALL roads are aiming in Pac vs. Mayweather direction. But I want to see Mayweather after his long layoff and dealing with JMM first!

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
There is 2 big things at play here. One...Pac is now incredibly confident mentally and physically. His resume is now more impressive than Floyd's as well. He has fought some great fighters in their PRIME. Something i cannot say is true for Floyd. The second thing...you cannot discount Floyd's inactivity or lack of fighting a truly great, PRIME fighter in his career. Floyd has fought big names, but Pac is at the absolute (or very close to) peak of his powers. Pac is no past it Oscar, headcase Judah, one dimesnsional Hatton, etc. No doubt Floyd is the most skilled and intelligent fighter in the business. But Pac is unlike any fighter Floyd has faced. I still think Floyd's brilliant skills, ring savvy, and preparation will make him the favorite. But i know longer think it's a sure thing he will win.

pretty much the same feelings here
2 weeks back i wouldnt of even bothered to answer this as i would of had this down as a floyd TKO but having seen pac manage hatton so devestatingly at 140 i cant help but think he would put floyd under immense pressure.
Im still going with my hunch that marquez may just outpoint a gunshy floyd next month, but somewhere down the line pac-mayweather is just too rich a fight for either guy to turn down and it will 100% happen at some point down the line.
If you ask me the whole potential pac freak show at 154 would be a waste of everybodys time and effort, if pacquiao wants to generally be a world champ at 154 then fight the best in the divison (williams) and dont waste everybodys time and effort by fighting someone you know you`ll be able to beat everyday of the week just because he owns a title you want.

If the layoff doesn't affect Mayweather he should win.

This is another factor worth considering, is Floyd's best a little bit behind him? I'm not just talking about the layoff but I also thought he was lazy and disinterested in the Oscar fight, and thought he was also cautious with the trigger against Hatton, who was there to be nailed every second of every round. Of course his technical ability will always be factor, probably well into his forties.
Anyway not sure what the overall point of this post is, just thinking out loud and imagining scenarios that give Pac a genuine shot at him.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
I hope all this doesn't end up like Margarito hype when he beat Cotto. People were all going bonkers saying that Margarito was the greatest ever for beating Cotto and he could beat everybody left and right blah blah blah only to lose on his next fight. Sometimes we tend to overhype someone just because they beat a big name in a convincing fashion. Does Pac have potential? Of course! But ANYTHING can happen in the sport of boxing.

It's really hard to bet against Pacquiao after seeing him destroyed Hatton.
But imo, PBF has the tools to put Manny in desperate situation. PBF better not look past JMM though.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER SR.: "LIL FLOYD WOULD TOY WITH PACQUIAO!"
"Yeah, to be honest with you man, I think Lil Floyd would toy with Pacquiao. He would toy with Pacquiao and Marquez. He's going to toy with Marquez," stated world-class trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. as he shared his thoughts on his son's return to the ring. "They are both too small for me. I'll beat both of them," Mayweather Jr. shouted in the background. Check out what both father and son had to say as the Mayweathers reunite to discuss Pacquiao, Hatton, Marquez and much more.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
Actually I'm really worried for PBF... PAC has this habit of transforming a boxers' monicker to something else... For example, "Hitman" turned to "Sh!tman".... "Golden Boy" turned to "Golden Gay" (Hoya quit, right?)...
Now imagine what PAC will make out of "Pretty Boy"?? ;D
.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
I'd have to favor Mayweather, but as others have said Pacquiao has looked nothing but brilliant lately! Not just winning but dominating!
But in my eyes Floyd is just the better boxer & Pacquiao's style doesn't match-up well. I reckon Pacquiao will be in it the whole way but Floyd will just be that little step ahead

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
If anybody can beat Mayweather it's Pac. The best anybody has looked against Floyd since Castillo was Zab Judah. Pac nearly as quick, hits harder, and doesn't fold. I give Pac a good chance because evidence shows that a fast southpaw can give Floyd trouble. I think the men are similar sized, and Pac's style is much more judge friendly.
The biggest knock on Pac is that his JMM victories are suspect. This comes down to matchups. Marquez is probably the toughest out there for him from a matchup point of view. In another thread, somebody accurately compares JMM's skill and to Kostya Tzsyu and points out that KT was brilliant against Pac-type fighters. He could neutralize speed with timing and counterpunch brilliantly. Well, Pac has managed to have two extremely close fights with a guy who is his worse matchup AND is P4P #2 in the world. Marquez is an amazing fighter who has gotten better with age. Even if you think he lost to Marquez, it doesn't diminish much from from the equation.
I'm not picking Pac in this fight just yet, but I will give Mayweather all credit if he takes this fight. It's by far his biggest risk, even more than Cotto. No knock on Cotto, but it comes down to the matchup.
-
Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
Nobody knows Pacman's game better than Roach. He mentioned that something clicked inside him during the Diaz fight that even he was surprised. So I wouldn't rely on how he faught against Morales or JMM before. Pacquiao evolved into a complete fighter of the sport.

I'd make Floyd a slight favorite over Pacquiao. I don't think weight makes any difference, because I really don't think the weight/strength difference is that big at all. I bet these two guys walk around at virtually the same weight in between fights.
Now, Floyd would have a 2-3 inch arm length advantage, and that would be significant.
For me, what makes this fight so interesting is that Floyd could not simply outbox and outslick Manny for 12 rounds straight. Manny is too fast and too relentless, at some point Floyd would have to stand his ground and fight. I think Manny would bring the best out of Floyd.
When the fight was announced did you not see how big Mayweather looked compared to Marquez, come on, Mayweather's bicep was bigger than Marquez's head!
