That makes me feel a bit better about the tournament, in retrospect we've now hammered Egypt who are not a bad side and were playing to get into the second round (they were in a much better position than us obviously) and we really didn't play bad against Italy, we were just a man down for about 60 minutes.
The Brazil game was a debacle of nightmarish proportions, but meh, they're pretty good.

The US needs to focus on Spain, they aren't unbeatable but we will have to play PERFECT just to hang with them. Our guys are missing the point if they think they have accomplished anything by beating Egypt and Brazil beating Italy 3-0....they still have to prove themselves against the best.
Maybe someday we'll see Canada play for the first round of eliminations... that's not totally impossible, ya know... ok unlikely for the 10 next years but one has to hope first hehe.
Yeah but thats a typically English thing to do. Over-rate everybody else while under-rating our chances. You don't have to be the best side to win the world Cup. You just have to be in the mix and a decent draw and a bit of luck can go a long way. Spain in Feb was a friendly and at best was a 2nd string team. Looking at competitive games and England have been right up there with the best of them.Quote:

Italy don't look up to much imo. Ageing team who don't seem to have any major talents coming through.
Brazil probably have the weakest squad they have had for a while. So weak that Elano is a starter when he can't dislodge Ireland from the team at City. Roberto carlos has gone, Ronaldinho is a shell of a once world class player, Ronaldo is fat and finished - so is Adriano, Kaka isn't quite the same player anymore after 2 years of injury after injury. Defensively they aren't so strong. They do have a top class keeper but even in qualifying they have been up and down.
Germany don't have anything that particularly worries me. They will be there or there abouts but i'd fancy our chances.
Argentina - much like Brazil, have been up and down. 6-1 loss to Bolivia a prime example.
Obviously you can't discount any of the above but i wouldn't say they have a much better chance than England.
The only teams i would worry about are Spain and possibly Holland.
Spain's starting 11 look a bit better than ours on paper :(

I tell you, I wasn't sold on Davies to begin with, but he has given us a lift. Jozy played pretty well, Dempsey did well, Coach Bradley has done a wise thing in subbing a midfielder for a forward and allowing Clint to move to forward it has worked well. We need to play smart, we need to play fast, and we need to try and score...seems to me most teams attack Brazil the way opponents used to attack a Prime Mike Tyson, they try and play it safe or just go through the motions because something tells the players "If we don't score, then we won't piss them off, and they in turn won't run the score up on us".....huge win, but we have to build on it

One thing I've noticed against Spain and Brazil is were pushing stuff out wide and crosses kind of play into our hands because Gooch and Demerit are good in the air. Not saying we won't get beat that way but its better for us. The through balls up the middle, give and gos, low crosses are more troublesome.
Spector and Davies made some great passes....we can get more chances next half but like a fighter who just floored a Prime Mike Tyson, we had better expect Brazil to come out swinging.
This is already the biggest thing for American soccer, even if we slip up (knock on wood, hopefully we don't) this is a HUGE result and away from home too!

Anyway, I said I wasn't going to complain much.
Yeah Brazil is the better team...we lost focus a little bit and it cost us. We have still got to build on this, hold the ball a bit, control pace, control the flow of the game.
I think Adu would have offered more than Sacha in terms of attack...wish he got used more.
Defense looked a little tired but when Cherundolo and Hedjuk come back from injury it'll be pretty deep. We've got a good solid midfield that I think shaped up a bit....Bradley, Dempsey, Donovan, Clarke with Adu and Feilhaber on the bench. Attack needs to do a little more, Davies is very active, it's great, and Altidore can finish better than anyone else we have, but we have to control the ball better.
Great match for us (first half at least), big accomplishment even though we lost...I hope it carries over for us.
Well our boys gave us a great effort, they played with a ton of heart, and they showed they can hang in there with the best teams in the world and even beat them.
Clint Dempsey seemed to take the loss pretty hard...hopefully they realize they can build on this and do it right in the World Cup!

So fucking annoying reminded me of how annoying them dicks with the brass band at the Hatton fights are, but one hundred times worst. If them horns are not banned next year it will ruin the atmosphere for the biggest sporting event in the world.
