I am gutted, I recieved a phone call about an hour ago from another writer from another site asking me if it was true, I had to stop at the library to jump on the public computer to look for myself....
This is truly a sad day.....
Gotta love that Gabriel Ruelas fight but then again all of those vids are classics
I have this same sickening feeling when I first saw the Diego Corrales thread on here. Another great, who gave us everything has gone. I'm truly devastated. Like VD said, ruined my day.
Thanks for the memories Champ, you will not be forgotten.
He may not have been elite skill wise but you can not say his heart was not the most elite there ever was as a fighter....
He was the standard all fighters should judge heart by...
This is a day beyond sadness
Just saw this on fightnews, what a tragedy. Gatti will always be one of my favorite fighters because he always gave it 100% in the ring. He will truly be missed.
rip gatti
im shocked to hear the news, he will be missed and i hope they find the killer
I'm seriously torn up right now. He gave us everything and more. The strongest heart in the world stopped beating today. I feel like i'm going to be sick.
Well... it just came out on FoxSports. It is truly a tragedy. And it appears he was with his family at the time. A very sad day in the boxing world indeed.
Two all time fan favorites within days of each other... first Alexis Arguello, and now Arturo Gatti.
Whether or not you thought Gatti was one of the best ever, I don't think anybody would argue against the fact that Gatti was one of the most entertaining fighters out there. He always came to fight, and would willingly take a few punches to land some of his own. He never trash-talked anybody, just came into the ring to do his job. And the crowd loved him for it. It's an overwhelming loss for boxing, and my heart goes out to his family at such a gut-wrenching loss.
Rest In Peace, Arturo.
A true fighter in every sense of the word and a rare breed.
R.I.P Arturo 'Thunder' Gatti:eek:
He was one of the very early fighters I saw fight on the USA network...one of the first that your eyes open and you said..... aaa-haaa :o.And you knew that we would see him again. Some card where they aired like 8 fights and all but 2 or 3 ended in 1st round KO's.He was coming up as 'little brother' to Joe
They knew they had a great thing. An explosive, honest and no holds barred fighter.Fresh faced with that long wide smile.Man....I'm going to miss him but feel privileged to have experienced him.Take all of that 'over hyped' talk and toss it in the trash can......this man was a true champion. In heart, mind and courage of body.Layed it all out for us to take in.
Old school heart and one of the all time exciting fighters. May God bless him and his family.
Everything Spicoli says He was Honest RIP
The personification of "Blood and Guts"...
R.I.P Arturo...
:o:eek:
This is a devastating loss for boxing, it really is. He left his heart and soul in the ring every time he fought and gave me some of the greatest sporting memories of my life.
I'll never forget Gatti - Ward, round 9 for as long as I live! It was one of those rare moments where I was actually walking towards the TV screen, throwing mini-punches in tandem with the two of them and shouting with excitement! Gatti could lift you out of your seat from halfway across the world, a total legend.
The most ironic part for me though is the fact that after his loss to Gomez, I remember saying to myself; "Hang em' up and sit back Arturo, now you can enjoy all that hard earned money and have a happy long retirement!" God knows, nobody deserved a better retirement than him! And then this happens...
R.I.P. champ! Forever the human highlight reel!

This is awful. You would think the killer would be will marked up.
Had to look back.He was a kid there....his 2nd fight.Oh man true to form just came out blazing.Against a guy named Melendez....both took huge hooks for all of 20 seconds or so and then poor melendez takes a hard downward right that left him frozen on the canvas......Gatti had Panama Lewis in his corner..hmm.
Have no doubt Gatti has his wings up their fellas.Love that smile,so happy in there.A permanent void in this sport now:eek:
RIP he was a warrior.
Is the WBC behind this?
Here's ESPN's story on it.
Boxer Arturo Gatti reportedly found dead in Brazilian hotel room - ESPN
I remember at the very end of their career's I was kind of hoping for Chico Corrales after the Clottey fight and Gatti after the Baldomir fight to duke it out. Not a lot of people wanted that fight but I did hear it mentioned in passing a couple times. I would have loved to have seen it even if they were both worn down they were capable of putting on an ATG fight and now they have both passed away
RIP Gatti
What the hell is going on in 2009? Alot of big names dropping like flies...WOW! Rest in Peace Arturo they broke the mold when they made you.
I hope they catch the responsible and bring him to justice. This fukked up. Ghatti was loved and contributed so much in the boxing world. It's hard to accept he died violenty.
Could be his misses involved there by the sounds of it,going to Brazil about to split up the marriage etc, they'll be checking her and her friends right out. Hope it wasnt poison and slow for him, ratsak makes you hemorage.
Maybe just one of things, but it sounds suss.
Fuk this news Gatti is a great, always will be.
Justin.tv - Noble Art
marciano is playing gatti fights if you are interested
Hope they find whoever did and and wheover was responsible for it being done. If they are different people.
According to friend Acelino Freitas, Gatti and his wife were about to separate. For what it's worth.
I'm heartbroken by this news.
Quote: after the Ruelas fight: " A bottomless well of willpower".
How was his corner man saying "Dont go to war, dont go to war with this man!"
May as well have said "try not breathing for this next round."
I hope the coward who murdered him is found quickly and brought to Justice
Wow.. totally shocked by the news. I've never been his biggest fan but I appreciate him for being an awesome boxer and he brought alot to the sport. The world is seriously a fucked up place..
I haven't seen too many of his fights if I'm honest with you all. 1, maybe 2. I think I'll go and buy his DVD career set, I think that's the best way I can pay tribute to him.
Dude had the heart of a lion! Ward trilogy was just insane. Hopefully they catch whoever did it, but sadly justice, especially south american justice can be rather fucked up at times...RIP
Its a definite run of emotion yeh.Half of me wants to see them all over the news in cuffs with a cell door slammed behind them for life.
The other half would settle on a set of chains and two cars going in opposite directions.harsh but thats where its at.Either way hope with everything that they find who did this.
