To answer your first point, the majority of people do do drugs in some form, be they legal or illegal, but that's not what I was saying. For a lot of people its easier to like a person who appears flawed, just like yourself. It makes it easier to related to them in that way instead of as some untouchable super human.
And you may be a smoker if you smoke once in a while, according to some people, but that does not mean you're addicted to smoking.
