Sexton....really?
Boytsov, he's ok an up and comer, got some skill to him, a little small and a little green just yet but I'd rather he stick in the WBA line instead of allowing himself to be ruined by Vitali, plus he had been trained by Sdunek in the very recent past. I like the way this kid fights but it's not going to work vs Vitali.
Chagaev, I think Ruslan is man enough to take the bout, but we've already seen him get beaten down by a Klitschko, must we see that again. PLUS I think he wants his old title back...which he'll be LUCKY to get another shot at given what Don King, Chicken Little, and manager have said about him. It would be a decent fight but we all know the outcome.
Odlanier Solis I believe is supposed to be Vitali's next mandatory...I would have rather this fight happened but who knows, maybe Vitali wants it later, maybe Vitali doesn't want it at all, maybe Solis doesn't want it....I am not sure, but I haven't heard either Klitschko say 1 word about Solis. Solis needs to watch his weight as well...I don't want him to eat himself out of the division.
Fransisco Pianetta is too green right now...just because he walked through Mike Marrone doesn't make him a top challenger
Oleh Platov is nowhere near ready for this kind of fight
Alexander Ustinov is actually contracted with K2 Promotions and has been on a number of Klitschko cards....I don't know if that's a conflict of intrests but whatever. Ustinov isn't ready to fight anyone of note or high calibre.
.....we wouldn't be talking about this if that Yehti Valuev had the stones to fight Vitali
Lyle the names really don't matter I just think like I said ANYONE is more deserving of a title shot then Briggs....Hell Paul Malignaggi is more deserving of a HW title shot then Briggs:o
Re: Klitschko vs Briggs is on
Wel Malinaggi may be exaggerating just a tad, but I understand....but I just hope you understand that Vitali Klitschko an injury prone 38-39 year old WBC heavyweight champion is just trying to have an interesting "stay busy" fight, and Shannon Briggs was all that was left once Valuev refused....I mean you didn't expect Chicken Little to fight him did you?

He got a gift off a 47 year old George Foreman, an absolute robbery infact. He was KO'ed vs Darrol Wilson, got a gift draw vs Francois Botha. Totally outboxed by Jameel McCline and beaten by a 9-9 Sedrick Fields.
But i suppose beating a 44 year old washed up Ray Mercer, or scoring a miracle come from behind KO against Liakhovich in one of the worst Heavyweight title fights ever, gives him an automatic pass to fight the brothers ?
Jesus you know the Heavyweight division is bad, when an asthmatic 10 punch a round fringe 90's contender Shannon Briggs is getting world title shot good lord.
No dig at the brothers its not there fault the Heavyweight division is in the state it is, but who the hell wants to see this honestly ?
I think this fight is just for laughs and to keep Vit busy. Not much else can be seen as a reason. Forget the name fighters Briggs fought and beat/or lost to. Look at BoxRec and see the quality of most of his other ko victims. he's been fighting on the US chitterling circuit so long he ought to been shitting hog intestines.
Re: Klitschko vs Briggs is on
Briggs isn't the greatest opponent and not to excited about this fight and I guess vitali should take some slack for it, but in his defense he did try making a couple other fights first. Plus vitali is pretty active so he'll be back in the ring in 4 or 5 months.
Re: Klitschko vs Briggs is on
doesnt matter who vitali fights as prob wont be on uk tv anyway:mad:
Re: Klitschko vs Briggs is on
did haye deserve a shot @ valuev?
if so, surely briggs deserves his shot @ vitali
Re: Klitschko vs Briggs is on
OK in the interest of fairness, if Briggs isn't a worse opponent then Audley he's close. I mean Briggs is nothing to this division. Combine him with Albert Sosnowski and then a future bout with Valuev and you end up with Vitali being pretty much irrelevant to the division. He's just as bad as Haye really but without the mouth. Wlad is THE guy, no question. This is a joke, Shannon Briggs. That can't be defended. Why not just fight a guy his brother has already fought.
And Majesty you are such a hater it's unreal, Briggs would have a shot versus Wlad? Are you smoking crack?

Briggs is close to nothing but he's big, he's got more quality than Audley Harrison (albeit the same work rate) and he can punch quite hard. Do I expect that he'll do much? He may swing wildly the first 4 rounds, but in the end I see him getting put to sleep before the final bell like so many of Vitali's challengers.
In all honesty Briggs called Wlad out a lot as well, he called him out after a press conference, and he had been scheduled to fight Wlad but then something happened and he bailed on the fight or a better fight came up (I think at that time it was the Ibragimov fight....not a better quality fight, but better in terms of it being for the vacant WBO title)...I wouldn't have minded Wlad beating Briggs up. Briggs could have had a small shot vs Wlad....the guy may be fat and have a head shaped like a pineapple, but he can still punch.
The way I see things now, Vitali is just a title holder, he's gotten older, he's not as powerful as he used to be and he's taking his last couple fights to make some big money and have some interesting bouts: Briggs, Valuev, Chicken Little....those are all interesting fights, but do understand that "interesting" doesn't mean competitive or deserved. Vitali has paid his dues in this division, he can do what he wants to.
Re: Klitschko vs Briggs is on
i dunno what all the fuss is abt, as i stated already who else deserves a shot? this is how it will continue untill haye fights the brothers, cos there is only 3 fighters in the heavyweight division that are any good.
Re: Klitschko vs Briggs is on
That's not true. Povetkin, Chambers, Adamek and Solis are all talented fighters imo, I just don't think any of them have the size to compete with either Klitschko. That's unfortunate. I don't think Haye does either but we just haven't found that out yet. I don't think the dropoff is so serious that you have champions and then guys on equal footing with the liked Briggs, Sosnowski and Audley. No, there are tiers here and just because those guys aren't the greatest heavyweights doesn't mean they should be lumped in with someone like Briggs. It's an awful choice of opponent for the second bout in a row, someone who shouldn't be ranked in the top 20 getting a title fight.
