To be fair though, it's all well and good making excuses like that, but nobody went easy on Khan losing to Prescott despite the fact he was actually fasting, which is far more detrimental than being inactive for 5 months...which is fairly normal for most fighters.
Hamed and Ali were both known to have fasted for fights and well i can't remember either one of them to lose only because of it, much less sparked in the 1 round by a future journeymen and a complete unknown at that time, what was Khan's excuse for all the other times that he was dropped and hurt against nobodies like Limond?
and there's a big difference cause Maidana struggled against a guy he should have blown out with ease, yet he still picked up a clear win and even scored the only KD in the fight, Khan was knocked silly in the first round by a nobody

Good point on Ali and Hamed.

AMIR KHAN: "I'M GOING TO COME IN AND BE THE BIG PUNCHER"
"When I beat Maidana, I want to let my fists do the talking, not my words...I'm going do something different in this fight, something nobody's ever seen me do. I'm changing my style....I'm going to come in and be the big puncher. This fight, is going to be explosive," stated WBA jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan as he spoke to the media about his upcoming clash with interim WBA jr. welterweight champion Marcos Maidana. Check out what else both fighters had to say during a conference call held earlier today.

Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
can't remember if i've replied to this thread yet - dont think i have
I agree entirely Khan is a class above Maidana in boxing skills and ring craftmamship
as long as khan stays focussed Maidana has a punchers chance and thats all.
wouldnt mind seeing what happening if Maidana lands though (apart from the fact I want Maidana to spark him of course ! :))- but can he now take a punch ?!?

Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
Everyone has such a close mindedness about peoples chins in boxing and looking at Maidana they are willing to look past all is flaws, how often he gets hit, or even how often he;'s been dropped or the fact he was outboxed by Kotelnik because they are blinded by the thought that none of it matters because Khan has no chin in their opinion. However Maidana has a lot less working for him, he wings his shots he is always caught in between them and he only fights one way, he is tailor made for Khan to look spectacular against and he will be beaten badly, Maidana may have power and a blood and guts style but 9 times out of 10 the fans pick the blood and guts style over the boxer because they enjoy watching it more but that blood and guts style will 9 times out of 10 be picked apart by it. And people are counting on Khan's chin failing him. But I think you have a better chance of seeing Maidana's chin and power fail him.

Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
I don't think Con's a bigger hitter than Ortiz. At best there even in power. Maidana was able to get up from that power. I see no reason he can't get up from Con's if need be. As for Con getting up from Maidana's power? Not happening. I see Con wobbled by a Prescott jab. A fucking jab! People always wanna make excuses for Con. There ain't no excuses. His chin is that poor. And it can not be fixed. Con was forced into this fight. He had no choice. If Maidana didn't press the issue, Con was a set to fight Willy Blain

We all no his chin is made of the purist glass known to man, but I think he is showing more discipline under Roach and is getting older and maturer and even though Maidana is a big puncher I don't think he is the man to do it. I do agree though if he has Khan in trouble its good night.

That's not true. You can slate people for defending Khan's china-chin (that's just being foolish) but to question his heart is wrong. There's no doubt whatsoever Khan is dumb/brave enough to wanna fight anyone.

Oh yeah, you can tell Con was just dying for the fight. I'm not even gonna bother bringing up the time Con threatened to give up his WBA title if forced to fight his mandatory Marcos Maidana
Schaefer says Con punked into facing Maidana. Didn't really want to.

That site writer is the biggest joke ever (serious hater). Being fooled by someone obviously twisting quotes makes you look like a mug. Serious.
It is blatantly obvious Richard Schaefer was praising Khan there. He was responding to a question from Steve Bunce "why is Khan fighting the dangerous Maidana?" hence "Khan is a great champion who is honouring his mandatory"
Khan could have dumped that belt anytime over the past year. There are loads of fights he can take over Maidana.
Don't be silly now VD.

Reduced to bashing a writer. :shakehead: Sad indeed. Con's been avoiding punchers since Prescott nearly decapitated him. That right there is a straight fact. Maidana has been Con's mandatory for some time. Con has done everything to avoid a Maidana fight. The fact that Maidana had to force a purse bid says it all. Con could of gave up the belt. But he knew the laughter that was directed at him when he threatened that move in the past would return. With a vengeance. Bottom line was Con gives up the title and he's labeled a coward. And no amount of damage control would save him. He was forced into the fight

1. The fight never went to purse bids. Team Maidana threatened that during negotiations but everything was resolved. The problem was money (surprise surprise) and the venue. Khan wanted the fight in England, Maidana in the US. Maidana got his way on both counts - a $650,000 career high payday and Vegas.
2. Why is it sad to point out a particular "writer" is spouting rubbish? What's really sad is - many of you naive fools believe any article written is credible just because it comes from an authentic looking site. Just about ANYONE can get printed on these sites.
3. You're right about Khan dodging punchers since Prescott... until now obviously.

Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
Well regardless of the backroom drama, this fight is now happening. This is a career defining fight for both. If Maidana loses, he is regulated to being a sort of gatekeeperish fighter. Khan loses and it's 0-2 vs big punchers with severely limited skills, and can forget about fighting on HBO ppvs or any of that stuff.

I highly doubt his chin will make it through 5 more years.
He's been lucky enough to earn a fortune from boxing, a couple of KO's he's gone.

Do you know how much he's made already? I think I did read somewhere that he made somewhere in the vicinity of 20 million USD.
If true, that's not bad at all.

$20M. That's not too bad at all. I got a feelin people will call him a certified ovehyped fraud if Maidana beats him.

Khan: "After Beating 140, I Want Mayweather, Pacquiao"
WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan is planning to end 2011 in a big way.
After his December 11 defense against Marcos Maidana, he wants the winner of January's 140-pound unification between Tim Bradley and Devon Alexander. Once that is finished, he wants to to get a mega-fight at 147-pounds against Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Manny Pacquiao. The fight with Pacquiao would be interesting. The two fighters are close friends, have trained and sparred often, and they share the same trainer in Freddie Roach. Khan is currently training in the Philippines with Roach and Pacquiao. Roach has said in a few interviews that he would never allow his two boxers to fight each other.
“I’m only 23, I’m a world champion and I’ve got many years left in my career. I can take my time and beat these guys like Mayweather and Pacquiao. I could go in the ring with them now – but I want to fight them when I am at my best", Khan told the Manchester Evening News. You need to have ambitions to be the pound-for-pound best, otherwise there is no point being in this sport. I want to be rated as No 1. I need to beat Marcos Maidana first and then the winner of Bradley and Alexander. After that I will move onto Mayweather and Pacquiao.”
First up is Maidana, who Khan expects to be a tougher opponent than either Bradley or Alexander.“He’s a big puncher,” Khan said. “He’s going to be a big challenge – his record says it all. After him, I want Bradley or Alexander – but I think Maidana will be tougher than either of them.”
