Of course he should have had a point deducted.In a game where violence is parts of its nature the ref has to be in charge at all times and if a boxer has so little respect for the rules and the ref he desurves to have a point off.
Maidana was lucky it did not catch him in the head and then the shit would fly.
Not even mad Mike Tyson went for the ref.

If you try to shoot someone, but accidentally miss & hit a parked car, should you just be charged with criminal damage or attempted murder. If Maidana had landed that elbow he would have been DQ'd. Simple. So a point was completely fair. A DQ would have been too much, but a point was just right, a rarity for Cortez.
Miles, we all know you would be in a right tiz if this was the other way round, arguing that Cortez had been a coward for not DQing Khan on the spot.
