I dont think Cotto has as much fight in him as Mayorga. I think he will be surpried as to how hard mayorga hits and how strong he is and it will only be a matter of time before Cotto thinks to himself, that he doesnt really need to be in boxing any more and will probably just quit in the corner between rounds and only if Mayorga doesnt marraud him to the point the ref saves Cotto or peels him off the canvas;D.
Mayorga never has been pounded by a guy wearing loaded gloves ;), and he flat out quit against DLH, looking up at Nady as if he were Jesus Christ himself, so get over it
Don't waste your breath. Ross has been labeling Cotto as a quitter since Day One, showing how little he knows about boxing. But he's pretty much alone in his claims... sort of like pissing in the ocean, to make an analogy. But maybe we SHOULD take our shots now... 'cause the little Hater will be nowhere to be seen come the day after the fight.
Anybody who says he wishes the fighter gets into the ring with a shoulder injury/surgery still bothering him is not even a real boxing fan. He's just an annoying little hater with nothing useful to say.

Re: Cotto vs Mayorga - Top Rank Trailer
For one thing El it was never proven that Margarito did jack shit and that does not change the fact that Cotto still took a beating. All i was saying is the beatings he took i think have taken there toll and then he moves up a weight class and fights a big puncher. Reason i bring up Cotto being nothing like Oscar is because he lacks his speed, his power and most important his chin. I am not picking anyone to win but to me this fight is kinda of a toss up depending on how the fighters show up.

I'm avoiding the slanging match in previous posts, but pretty much agree with all of this and Ross and Hulk have made their points too. Like you guys, I think Mayorga is a live opponent and if Cotto doesn't get the measure of him early then he's in for a long, long night. Cotto is not on the level of a prime Forrest nor as good as any of the fighters Mayorga has lost to in recent years. Plus he is no 154 pounder, even Foreman seemed to be bothering him in spurts. And no way have those poundings not taken a lot out of Cotto. He cuts easily and wilts down the stretch. I'm not so sure that he does have all that much left.

Cotto is nothing like Judah, and neither is Mayorga like Baldomir
when have you seen Cotto take an opponent lightly? and when has Mayorga taken the type of beatings Baldomir is famous for? answer to both questions, never

The point in which you over looked . . .
Cotto and Judah are both skilled. Are the not?
Baldomir and Mayorga are both solid hard punchers. Are they not?
Cotto and Judah both changed their gameplan after getting caught with a solid hard punch. Did they not?
Baldomir and Mayorga is not going to outbox anyone. They are going for the KO. True?
Like when Baldomir won, it was an upset. If Mayorga win, will it be an upset?
Now you answer those questions.

Judah was/is a cocky shit, is he not?
Baldomir beat Judah by decision not KO did he not?
Baldomir was never a massive puncher, and apart from Forrest, Mayorga has just stopped a bunch of nobodies
like i said you could compare this fight to any other fight by the way you broke it down, this is a boxer/puncher (Cotto) vs a Brawler (Mayorga), 9 times out of 10 the boxer will win

True
But the other key factor is, have the past beaten that both fighter took, take a toll on their careers?
IMO, advantage goes to Mayorga

So your going to compare the punching power of Zab Judah and Mayweather to that of Tito Trinidad and Oscar Delahoya ?
We are goin off on some nonsense tangents now ;D

Yep, people are questioning Mayorgas resiliance "he always gets knocked out" but thats only after rounds and rounds of taking flush clean punches from some of boxings biggest punchers and thats only when he slows down due to shitty fitness.
Watch the 2nd Forrest fight and other than Pacquiao, try to find a fighter that can work that hard at that rate for an entire 12 rounds! Every shot loaded up! Mayorga has excellent stamina when he trains right and if he has then its just a question of what round that Steward is screaming at Cotto to turn it up because ricardo is doing as he pleases and if Cotto doesnt, I see Steward pulling him out rather than have Mayorga smash up one of his fighters;)

Forrest landed everything on Baldomir at 154 and didn't wobble the guy, Judah and Mayweather aren't the only 2 fighters he faced
hell the fact that Alvarez was even able to stop him was a shock even despite the time off Baldomir had taken

The Baldomir that fought Alvarez was old and slow. You could see from the very beginning that he had no legs and wasn't going to last

Baldomir was a tough over achieving lil hunch back feather duster maker.
But what do you think Mayorga would have done to quazi moto in their primes ?

Re: Cotto vs Mayorga - Top Rank Trailer
Cotto will outbox the charging Mayorga and KO him late.
Plain and simple.
You're welcome for settling this for all of you.
Cheers

Manfredo will cheap shot people every chance he gets to win a fight.
Then get offered a big fight against Andy Lee and turn it down.
Plain and simple.
Your welcome. ;D

no way in hell Mayorga would have ko'd Baldomir, seeing how neither have ANY boxing ability and both are slow as hell, it'd be a toss up, slightly in favor of Mayorga cause he had better power, but Baldomir's stamina was better IMO

Re: Cotto vs Mayorga - Top Rank Trailer
One little thing iv just thought of that I havent seen mentioned. As well as training Cotto, Steward is also training Wladamir and Andy Lee for upcoming fights and also now has Chad Dawson. Dont know who else he has but each of those mentioned will believe they are more important than the next and want Stewards time and dedication. he could be spreading himself too thin and not be able to focus on each individual fighter properly.

Dawson doesn't have a fight scheduled, now that his rematch with Pascal is in question due to the WBC ordering Pascal to rematch Hopkins
Lee isn't gonna be priority over Cotto, and Wlad fights in April, it's not like Steward hasn't ever trained more than one guy at a time, if Roach can do it Steward sure as hell can

It's a joke how Mayorga turns up and doesnt train? What sort of an arrogant fighter wouldn't train for a championship bout? He should be fully training his ass off because as far as I'm concerned he's a nobody now and he has much to prove! I'm routing for cotto in this one

I think youll find that Mayorga gets people interested. Look at all the other upcoming fights that are scheduled. Pac v Mosley, Bradley v Alexander, Klitschko v Adameck, Froch v Abraham and so on...
Cotto v Mayorga though is what people are mostly talking about because of Mayorga;)

Ross - it doesn't mean anything though I would prefer to watch froch who's beating high class opposition every fight and dedicated to training! He deserves to be called the champion! Same for Bradley making the effort to draw attention to a his career by fighting Devon! He's trained to hard and cares a lot for this fight. However Mayorga has a loud mouth and hasn't been champ for years and doesnt train enough he's been inactive for so long. He smokes and portrays a bad image which a boxer shouldn't have. I don't respect a fighter like that at all. I would much rather watch Bradley and froch than Mayorga. I hope and know that his under preparation and loud mouth will cost him. Cotto is better than Mayorga and will beat him. Mayorgas days are long gone and cotto will show this to us all

Mayorga the rapist who made a deal with Daniel Ortega to escape jail, according to Wikileaks.
Yes thats the one ;D
Hes gonna rape Cotto all over the ring;)
After Cotto makes you look bad... make sure you drop in so you can be raped all over the forum.

Its funny how many people buy into Mayorga's act and take it seriously.
Mayorga is full of shit when he talks all that nonsense. Its all for show and to hype up the fight.
He likes playing the bad guy and as a result a lot of people hate him. Personally I love the crazy bastard !

Exactly, how gullible, naive and dopey must people be to believe that Mayorga lives and breaths his personna he puts on at press conferences;D Reminds me of the Simpsons "will somebody please think of the children!";D
Its to sell fights and earn future big fights because promoters know hes going to do half the work for them. Fighters like Bradley and Froch wont get the opportunities they maybe deserve more because they just will not sell themselves enough. They are relatively unknown. The best paid boxers are the ones the media loves.
Regarding Bradley and Froch, I doubt they ever beat anyone as high in the pound for pound rankings that Forrest was;)

I know it's to promote the fight but it's a bit Ott sometimes. Froch and Bradley are model champions, a class above Mayorga for sure. And I know they haven't however both men train there ass off and deserve their wins. Mayorga trained and proved what he can do. But now he believes he doesn't have to why? What makes him so special? This is why the man has lost so many big fights. He might sell the fight but he's not gona win it. He's a nobody but gains attention to himself by being an idiot

Your assumption that hes not going to train is wrong. He did 9 rounds fairly comfortably a month ago, hes started this camp relatively fit and sharp. We could be about to see the fittest Mayorga has been since the second Forrest fight.
If Margarito can smash Cotto up then Mayorga can. Margarito couldnt stand up to Shanes punches for as long as an inactive Mayorga did, Cottos punches had no efefct on Margarito but Shanes did. Mayorga took big clean flush shots from Mosley without blinking until he tired in the second half. This time though hes had the opportunity to get some rounds in before hand.;)

Cotto is in a different league to a nobody who had lost 5 of his last 6 bouts, any fighter on the higher level would be comfortable against weaker competition. The Margarito fight was an outstanding fight and there is the whole was margaritos hand illegally wrapped for the cotto fight as well. He got KTFO by Mosley because he had just been caught, his mentality wouldnt have been right and he definatly would have lost his focus hence such a one sided beating. At the end of the day Mayorga might have taken a beating and walked through Mosleys punches but he still lost the fight so what difference does that make if he could take a punch or not? Lets not forget Cotto beat Mosley as well! He was stopped by De La Hoya and trinidad as well. The Forrest fight was nearly 8 years ago, are you telling me hes going to be as good as he was then? Hes been on the slide for a long time and Cotto will be the nail on the coffin. A lot of people think hes lost it, I still think he has more to prove. No shame in losing to Manny in a great fight. and the margarito ,fight fight of the year and potentially controversial still has a question mark IMO over it. Cottos going to win this

He lost 4 out of his last 8 ;) All against fighters who have been top of their weight division.
Mayorga has a better chin than Margarito and Margarito ate all cottos punches up.
Im saying that this could well be the best prepared he has gone in to a bout since then, with the recent activity. Whereas Cotto has been out 9 months and hasnt been hit hard since the Pacquiao fight 16 months ago.

no hed lost 5 of his last 6 and he has lost to three up and coming fighters. hes a nobody basically. And has Mayorga got the better chin? whos been down more? Margarito got stopped by Mosley cos hed just been caught cheating his focus wouldnt have been on the fight and he got destroyed. Did you not see the beating he took against manny and he still didnt go down. Yes Margarito took all of cottos punches and this is how he won the fight and he upped the pace. But did he have illegal handwraps? hes not shown the power he did in that cotto fight since therefore showing something could be up? Mayorga might take a dig but he can still be stopped as proved by Mosley, De La hoya and Trinidad. I dont see how beating a fringe fighter is as good as Cotto beating a 154 world champion. I think Cotto is a lot more prepared than Mayorga has been a lot more active in recent years and has the ability to outwork Mayorga. I think he will stop him in the later rounds

Margarito only has been KO'd by Mosley, and was only dropped twice, Mayorga has been dropped something like 8 times in 3 losses
no way in hell Mayorga has a better chin
