I dont think Mosley has ever been regarded as that? Cotto spent most of that fight like a crab, scuttling in his shell sideways along the ropes. Mosley spent the night waiting to land one punch, the over hand right. Look at Wright v Mosley, Mosley didnt have a clue there either against a very basic guard.

Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
I'm not sure what to make of this one. I have a feeling that I'm about to pay good money for a two round blow out. I doubt I'll order it. Afterall, I can watch Martinez-Dzinziruk for free.
Who can take Mayorga seriously at this point? He could win, but it would be a travesty if he did.

Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
crazy old chain smoking mayorga by lucky ko punch 4th round

A travesty ?
It would be a triumph.

It would be a delightful result and a real kick to the teeth of the establishment. Mayorga is old school like Johnny Rotten used to be. Nothing could thrill me more than to see an old underdog do a number on Cotto. And that is in no way being disrespectful to Cotto who I like a lot, but you have to support one of the fighters, you can't go looking for a simultaneous knockout or a draw. I'm always a sucker for the underdog and I've always liked Mayorga. Such a fun fighter and it is for those basic reasons that I want him to at least do well.

Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
Cotto wins by mid round stoppage. Thanxs to his countryman Trinidad who beat the hell out of Mayorga and softened him up. Trinidad made it easier for De la hoya to take out Mayorga. Though Cotto's taken some punishment himself he's definately the smarter and better boxer of the two. I'm a huge Cotto fan and I have watched the majority of his fights. He keeps me on the edge with his occasional defensive lapses. He'll stop punching and wait for the change as he did against Margaritto. Stewart should make a big difference and have Cotto doing different things and getting hit less. Cotto will break him down and should finish the job by the 8th or 9th rd

i dont see it contest
cannot for the life of me fathom how anyone can call this for anything other than a devestating cotto tko victory. He is too quick and too technically gifted for mayorga who is an out and out slugger
may take him 6-7 rounds but eventually once he gets mayorga he`ll finish the job in a nasty way and i`ll be we willing to take a SIGGY BET with anyone who thinks otherwise

Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
Heres an interview with Al Bernstien, he says what good shape Mayorga was in when he visited his camp 10 days before the fight. His words were "almost on weight" He also mentions how hard an unfit Mayorga can fight over 12 rounds and that now he really is in shape it makes this fight very interesting!
Exactly what iv been saying;)

Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
I will go for a late KO win for Cotto.
I find it difficult to root for the loud, the aggressive, and the obnoxious sort in Mayorga. If Mayorga wins then he proves me wrong in being inclined to think his presence in this fight is to him but a mere “money grab”.
That said, I hope Mayorga proves me wrong and fight a good and smart fight to give the boxing fan, something kinda’ wonderful to talk about!
-
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
Looking forward to the weight in which is live in a few hours. ;D
-
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
Both fighters weighing in at 154lbs.
Cotto walked off the stage, refusing to do the stare down with Mayorga.
-
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
Damn... I had the poll close prematurely. Oh well... looks like an overwhelming pick for Cotto by TKO at some point. What's this? No "Mayorga by decision" votes? LOL... obviously that is probably the LEAST likely scenario. Come to think of it, has Mayorga won any fights recently by decision? The guy's like a kamikaze fighter..... KTFO or be KTFO'ed.

Mayorga likes to amp himself up by having stare downs and talking trash....Cotto is denying him that and its already frustrating Mayorga you can tell.

Agreed. He's refusing to let Mayorga get under his skin. He's playing it smart.

Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
The fact that he wont pose or do the staredown means Mayorga has got to him. He's worried he may react, Mayorga already in his head and the first round bell hasnt even rang yet.

Could be, but Cotto is a cool customer and Mayorga hasn't really gone overboard like he has before this is why I think Cotto just isn't giving Mayorga the energy he requires to amp himself up into fighting spirit. Cotto is saving up all his energy for fight night.
Just my opinion though and it COULD backfire, but I think Miguel has this pretty easy.

Is it conceivable that Mayorga's frustration with Cotto's unwillingness to exchange staredowns and trash-talk, could lead him to try something desperate? Like push Miguel during pre-fight intros?
-
Mayorga gets his energy from getting his opponent worked up, I just think it takes something away from Mayorga when Cotto won't stare him down at the press conferences or whatever....I don't doubt for a second that Cotto is ready.
-
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
Just heard that Mayorga is only being paid $50k for this fight whilst Cotto is being paid $1m.
Mayorga's purse seems very low.

A travesty. Mayorga is a ridiculous now-and-again fighter who would do nothing to further the boxing scene. Cotto has delt with being punched in the face by a brick fisted cheater and needs this win to carry on.
BUT if it's true that Mayorga is only getting $50,000 I hope he wins just to spite the greedy bastards.
-
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
Hey if wanna loose some money possibly trust me on this one too. I'm pickin that lenny z australian kid to win by ko too.
-
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
Only 50,000 dollars? Really?
If so, then that's outrageous. What does that make it? A 95/5 split of the purse.
Come on Mayorga. Go get him.

Mayorga is a great champion who was SCREWED against Spinks and set on the path of becoming a "special attraction".
May the best man win.
And did you mean 500,000 ? I could believe that but NOT 50 grand.
-
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
50k are you serious? Well he trained hard so he must have some confidence in landing the pac fight to make some real money after this. They both are getting ripped if you ask me. This fight should sell pretty well.

looked as if mayorga was trying to give him some kind of flower
cotto still should of took on a staredown though, just to show ricardo he isnt getting to him as much as he thinks
-
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
Mayorga up to his old tricks again. He brought a rose for Cotto who refused to look at him and Mayorga was even whistling Cotto to come over for a staredown and Cotto again declined. He wouldnt even do any interview on stage and just walked off so Mayorga must have felt he had the last laugh as he paraded around the stage banging his chest and calling Cotto a coward. Dont expect much from the fight itself but Mayorga has made the pre fight stuff interesting as usual

Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
last nights antics wont play any role in tonight's outcome, Mayorga got what he wanted to be in the spotlight, tonight Cotto will pound him out like the bitch he is, people always said that DLH avoiding to make eye contact in the middle of the ring meant he was scared yet when that bell would ring he'd be all over his opponent, you guys going for Mayorga are just clutching at straws but well go ahead the rude awakening is only hours away :-X
-
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
First, if Mayorga IS getting only $50 thou for the fight, he's an even bigger idiot than I thought. And blame him and his promoter... not the Cotto camp. Second, if fights were won on trash-talking and crazy antics, Mayorga would already be the world's p4p champ. But they're not. Come fight time, it'll be time for Mayorga to put up or shut up. If Cotto can avoid getting caught cold by a wild shot, he'll systematically break Mayorga down, and by the end of the night all you'll hear will be the crickets chirping from the Mayorga backers.
Oh..... and Ross will be nowhere to be seen for two weeks.
My prediction.
;)

Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
anybody got links for the fight:)

Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
thought this was interesting tweet from Dan Rafael:
Rest of the purses for the ppv bouts: Lenny Z $65K, Miguel Vasquez $150K, Tommy Z $50K, Bryant $1,500, Yuri Foreman $100K, Pwel Wolak $75K
-
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
I think Cotto will win easily! Mayorga will just lunge in and Cotto will be able to see him coming a mile away. I think this will be the better fight than Martinez and Dzinziruk. Cotto maybe by knockout early. Like 4 round
Found this cool preview on it
Video Preview: Miguel Cotto lost the war of words against Ricardo Mayorga but he’ll win the 12 round battle On The Beak
-
I don't believe for a second mayorga is getting 50k for the fight and cotto is getting 1 mil. They should be getting alot more than that each

Honestly I LOVE the fact that all these guys who were picking YURI FUCKING FOREMAN to beat Cotto, are now picking Cotto to absolutely destroy Mayorga in one round.
Apparently a past his prime Cotto is better than Oscar, Tito, or Mosley. He is GOD !
Not sayin you picked Foreman to beat Cotto, but a TON of people did. And those same people now think Cotto is an unbeatable machine who will surely KO Mayorga much faster than Oscar or Tito.
Its absolutely hyperbole and absurd.

Well...... the DECENT Mayorga backer is here. Where's the OTHER one?!? I KNEW he'd go AWOL even BEFORE the fight. The chickenshit...
But addressing your comments, Hulk. I didn't pick Foreman over Cotto, although I did have my misgivings about someone of Cotto's height at 154. I'm also not saying Cotto will KO Mayorga in one round. I'm sure he's going to play defense against Mayorga's bull rushes in the beginning. I think it will take Cotto 3-4 rounds before he begins applying his pressure and bodywork against Mayorga, and eventually take him out... mid to late-round TKO. And no... I don't place Cotto over Tito. Tito's career accomplishments outweigh Cotto's IMO.
Only a few more hours till we find out, though.... and I'm only sorry we're not gonna see "what's-his-name" in here for a weeks after tonight.
;D

and i said that those people picking Yuri Foreman were equally retarded as those picking Mayorga, Cotto might not be Trinidad, DLH, or Mosley but he's a hell of a lot better than Mayorga
-
Its funny that the Mayorga fans are the very same group of people that a few years ago were saying "if Tyson got back with Rooney he'd win the titles again".....Tyson is finished, Mayorga is finished. Hell Mayorga has only beaten 1 prime opponent that was worth a damn (Forrest) and other than that he's only got a handful of significant victories....all many moons ago.
Miguel Cotto is still fresh enough to take Mayorga....its a great style matchup for the fans though and Mayorga has always come ready to fight, for the most part. Cotto is fresh, he's actually got a solid trainer and yeah I think that extends his career quite a bit longer.
-
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
I hate to agree with Lyle on just about anything, but the guy has got it right, Mayorga has no significant victories in recent years, and has been on a rebuild fight/defeat cycle since 03. Cotto will box through the first few rounds, then dig in the body shots and see Mayorga off before the championship rounds.
