He got hit with a temple shot that dropped him (Lemieux was hurt but not dropped by a similar punch in the previous round when he got wild and was countered) and the corner threw in the towel in the follow up barrage.

Dam lemiuex lost? I guess that's what happens when you start talkin to much shit..haven't seen the fight and judging from your posgt it was a stupid stoppage but didn't see that comin at all

Yeah, I agree. Rubio is never anything but pure class in both victory and defeat, it'd be nice to see him treated the same way.

Re: Lemiuex v. Rubio This Friday
I can understand the corner stepping in, he didn't really understand how to survive, he's young, he'll come back.

It wasn't necessarily a stupid stoppage, I just thought it was very premature, especially given that his corner stopped it.

He needs to learn how to box if he's ever going to be successful at a high level. I thought he'd beat Rubio, but Lemieux is so wild that I figured any decent counter-punch would beat him.

I took Lemieux to win as well, Rubio gets lazy early on, I didn't think he would have stood up to the initial assault, but he proved me (and most) wrong.

Re: Lemiuex v. Rubio This Friday
I told ya'll Rubio was not just going to fall down. He took Lemieux into deep waters and Lemieux could not swim.
Lemieux started looking frustrated from the second round on.

As soon as he realized he wasn't going to hurt Rubio with one punch he had no idea what to do.

Yeah he just could not find a comfortable range either. He was looping his punches more than he ever has. He is an example of a fighter falling in love with their power. He was loading up instead of making things happen. Rubio, just sat back, weathered his storms and waiting for Lemieux's fire to settle a tiny bit. He then started opening up. Once Lemieux started backing up, he was already done.

I agree 100%. Lemiuex's punches were just ridiculously wild at times. He really needs to settle down in there.

They fed Lemieux too many softies early. They placed him against Rubio, who i always considered underrated. He is a crafty Vet and knows how to fight. As you said Lemieux simply grew frustrated, got wild and ran out of gas. He could rebound well from this. I hope so because he is an exciting fighter.

Re: Lemiuex v. Rubio This Friday
Nelson's fight plan seems to be flail, scream, and run away.
-
Re: Lemiuex v. Rubio This Friday
Arroyo is gonna lose this by posing on how he's not hurt.
-
Re: Lemiuex v. Rubio This Friday
How does this fucking joke of a ref take a point from Arroyo for holding earlier and then not penalize Nelson here? This is just stupid.

Re: Lemiuex v. Rubio This Friday
Poor ol' Willie has the Paul williams frame and a Tye fields chin.

Re: Lemiuex v. Rubio This Friday
3 KD's against the unbeaten prospect in an 8 round fight. Who else senses a draw coming?

Bwahahahahah. If I had caught that before the fight I wouldn't have been cheering for him quite so hard.

Re: Lemiuex v. Rubio This Friday
Is that a injured bird screaming in the audience :-\
O'conners gets hit....alot! And why is he standing in the corner
-
Re: Lemiuex v. Rubio This Friday
Martinez would beat Lemieux like a drum, He is very telegraphed...and square
-
Re: Lemiuex v. Rubio This Friday
Guess I'll go again...Rubio is wilting a bit but David is showing pretty one dimensional. Kinda reminds of Vinny Paz way he loads up wide
-
Re: Lemiuex v. Rubio This Friday
His legs look not so steady in round 6....this is a very interesting fight and crossroads affair
-
Re: Lemiuex v. Rubio This Friday
Live by the sword....die by the sword. So much for that. Flava flav said it best. Good good fight. Rubio gets tko

Well, let's start with 2 things.
1- How to deal with adversity. I can't believe how bad Lemieux reacted to the counter-attack by Rubio in the end of the fifth. He were clearly leading the fight but as soon that Rubio placed a good punch, he lost it.
2- His defense when things aren't going good. Not only he loose the edge of the fight in the fifth, but weren't doing anything to recuperate in the sixth. Also, he lack in defense is what caused Rubio comeback.
I'm still shocked, but I still love that kid. The way I see it, he simply hit a wall sooner than I expected. He should have spared with Bute or another champ...but oh well, it's wasy to say that now that we know the result...

Re: Lemiuex v. Rubio This Friday
Damn I missed all the fights tonight...at least I got to eat some good sushi and some sapporos. ;) I always like to read the first few pages of a fight thread when theres an upset. Sounds like Lemiuex didnt have a backup plan when his power wasnt enough to carry him? I am not missing tommorrows fights!
