Jan. 20
At Las Vegas (Showtime): Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux, 12 rounds, for Ramos' WBA junior featherweight title; Guy Robb vs. Joel Diaz, 8 rounds, junior lightweights; Matt Villanueva vs. Michael Ruiz Jr., 6 or 8 rounds, junior bantamweights; Javier Molina vs. TBA, 6 or 8 rounds, welterweights.
Why is it starting so late? I don't get it here until midnight (2 AM ET)
SHOBOX usually does that when a fight is in Vegas or the West Coast, i'm in CST, so the card starts @ 10:00 PM here. The main may be good enough to stay up for.

I know. The most annoying thing is that both HBO and Showtime don't play the HD versions of their fights live on the West Coast, so it will start at 11pm (also 2am ET). I could watch it in non-HD live as early as 8pm, but that looks pretty crappy on a 50-inch screen.
It's especially annoying because whatever they're playing at 8pm in HD (a movie) is available 24/7 on OnDemand anyway.
This all but assures I'll already be drunk by the time the undercard starts and will be lazy about scoring the fights.
At least HBO has an east coast feed.
But not an HD one. Unless you're on the East Coast (I assume).
No I know no HD, but at least I can watch it. Showtime I have no option at all. I'm in Arizona so we're on MT right now.

Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Just watched 4 Rigondeaux fights. The opposition wasn't much, but he looks pretty good. A very very good amateur fighter; being around people like Roach and Jesse Reid, he has a good chance of someday being a good pro, too, though with 400 amateur fights, I'm sure he has a lot of habits that they try to break him of.
I think he gets away with a lot because of his speed and southpaw style, at least in the fights that I saw. He also leaves his chin up in the air, wide open, when he throws that left hand bolo punch to the body. He moves to his left a lot, trying to stay in front to throw that punch.

That right there is my biggest concern we're not talking about someone in their early 20s. He did get caught in the last fight I watched him in and got dropped for the first time. I really think he got into the pro game too late and is gonna get blasted out in some fight, I certainly don't think Ramos is the man to do it.

Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Alrighty here we go boxing fans, Bernstein, Tarver and Gerbil Farhood calling the action for Showtime, first up Matt Villanueva vs. Michael Ruiz Jr., 6 or 8 rounds, junior bantamweights. (a triple header)
My choice of beer for tonights fights: ice cold Shiner Bock, brewed @ the Spoetzl Brewery right here in beautiful Shiner, Texas. :drinker:
Diane is at the fight, maybe she'll wave to us.

Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
is anyone watching this on a stream?
First there was a Steve Farhood microphone problem, fair enough.
Then they went to Chuck Giampa, their guest expert, who said "and tonight I'll be taking you inside the head of a judge...tonight I'll be taking you inside of the head of a judge....muttering...yeah, shit."
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
yeh to a triple header !
So they decided to put Chuck giampa on the mic in a feature called "in the mind of a judge" He seemed to freeze on camera and all he said was..."Well...shit" ;D;D Not making that up. Classic bahahaha!!!
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
that was on live TV? hahaha, classic.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Mean little men, so far, Villanueva looks to be the bigger better man. What's with having Andre Ward? They've already got Bernstein, Tarver and Gerbil Farhood..

My man I thought i was almost watching a SNL skit ha! Irony of comment and subject ;D
Emmanuel lucero, Ruiz is severly square and bends into punches
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
This seems to be a mismatch, Ruiz is out-gunned.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Ruiz is trying but just at a physical disadvantage.

Yup, Ruiz is game, he's just fighting a losing battle.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Villanueva has some ring wise use of rangy and digging shots. He's sharp and constant thus far
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Good stoppage, Ruiz had no chance of winning and was just taking unnecessary punishment.
Up next: Guy Robb vs. Joel Diaz, 8 rounds, junior lightweights.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Berstein says Diaz jr is compared to Brandon rios?! Please, don't do that to the kid.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Robb got wobbled at the end of the 1st round, I don't see this one going very long.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Wow, damn good round 2, a KD for Robb.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Rios just got dumped hard on his wallet off a timed right hook and was hurt. Both think defense in a offensive term and are street swinging.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
that was a bad second KD call.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Robb is setting himself up for a huge left hook KO. He's just so squared up.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
good fight. Robb is no punk. He is begging to be knocked out though. Squares up and throws for the fences. He's so open for a left hook.
I'm rooting for him though.

Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
These kats are laying it all out there, this might be the fight of the night, lots of heart shown by both guys.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Not sure how long these guys last as top pros if they sell out faces this much but it'll be fun chaos while it runs its course. This one will take time off em
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Diaz must be wondering WTF he has to do to discourage Robb.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Robbs right eye going to hell but he's all pressure on a backing Diaz in 6th

Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
The ref just cock blocked this awesome fight ???....preme stoppage I believe, Diaz via tko 7th
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
7th round stoppage for Diaz, I feel a little bad for Robb who fought his heart out.
Here we go with the main event, up next. Come on Rico... ;)
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
"Firm but Fair" Joe Cortez is the ref for this fight.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Ramos down in the 1st round.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Ramos was shit scared. He's the champ and Rigondeaux stepped in and looked like the man immediately.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Ramos needs to take this into the later rounds, where Rigondeaux is not used to going.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Ramos apparently read a lot of articles talking about how good Rigondeaux is.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Ramos seems afraid to throw punches, he's not going to outbox Rigondeaux and he's already dug himself a hole.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Boring fucking fight so far, mainly because of Ramos.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Great, Ramos gets KTFO in the 6th round.
Night folks..
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
I literally put the fight on right as it ended. Seems like it went as expected.

Yup, Rico never was in it, he got knocked down in the 1st round, and looked like he was in awe of Rigondeaux the whole fight before it got stopped.
Best fight of the night was the 2nd one on the card.. Diaz vs. Robb, Ramos vs Rigondeaux isn't worth watching.
-
Re: Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux - friday night fight thread
Ok, had a great time at the fights tonight. I'll save the best part for last. ;)
First, I wish I would have sneaked my regular camera in, because my cell phone camera sucks ass! I could have gotten so many good shots, because I had perfect view of the ring, and the could see everyone I would have liked to have gotten a pic of.
Had a great seat, about 25' away from the ring. Sat next to these 2 girls that are friends with Mike Ruiz. They were a lot of fun. They were a wreck when Mike lost though. After his fight & getting cleaned up, Mike and his trainer sat in front of us, and the girls introduced me. They were really nice, but he was obviously upset.
The untelevised fights were very entertaining, especially between these 2 heavyweights that both basically had just turned pro.
The Julia Diaz Jr fight was sure entertaining, a hell of a lot more than the main event.
I don't know what the hell was up with Ramos, it was like he didn't want to fight, and I'll have to watch it when I get home, but it didn't look like he got hit with anything solid when the fight ended with the knockout.
Oh, before any of the fights started, Joe Cortez was right near me, so I went up to him and asked him how he feels about the majority of boxing fans considering him to be one of the worst refs. The look of shock was priceless. Needless to say he didn't answer, and turned and walked away.
And now my favorite part of the night, and something that was priceless to me. Not sure if they showed in on tv, but that piece of shit Floyd was there, he was sitting in this little closed off area with all his cronies. I was about 20 ft away, and in perfect view of him. Well he looked my way, and I flipped him the bird, and yelled to him that I hope he enjoys his jail time. ;D All he did was the get the fuck out of here hand swoosh.
