Nonito Donaire vs. Jeffrey Mathebula - Saturday night fight thread

I'd like to see Pavlik fight Edwin Rodriguez. Rosinky gave La Bomba all he could handle.

Then I'd give the winner of Pavlik-Rodriguez a title shot.

Yup, I keep Jones muted, he's HBO's version of Showtime's Gus Johnson, even more annoying IMO.

A few thoughts after the Pavlik-Rosinsky fight:

1. Pavlik seemed so much bigger than Rosinsky. Not just taller... bigger. Same thing I thought for his previous fight against Scott Sigmon.

2. Harold Lederman is downright useless. Not really a conclusion from this fight, which was relatively easy to score. Just hearing his screechy voice and his useless comments.... it makes me feel that he's even more useless than Lampley, who may not be good at calling the action, but is good at carrying the telecast. Harold has no use whatsoever.

3. Pavlik's still too easy to hit. Had Rosinsky had more power, Kelly could've been in trouble at some point.

4. Rosinsky's girlfriend has a nice set of big jugs.

Time for a Guinness and Donaire vs. Mathebula, Mathebula looks taller then Donaire, it probably won't help him. :cool:

Agreed, Kelly gets hit too often, against a bigger puncher he would have been toast. I still liked what I saw from Kelly, Rosinsky was a hard nut to crack.
As for Rosinsky's G/F, jugs aren't everything, I like women with a little class.

Rosinsky gave a good account of himself, his main problem is he's a small SMW, and I can't see him hanging with the big dogs @168.

Mathebula is going to get caught with something big, that puts his lights out.

Target practice so far for Nonito.

How nonito hasn't knocked this dude out yet is amazing. This guy was slow and offbalance during the ringwalk

I was surprised Mathebula came back as well as he did in the 5th round, he looked really hurt at the end of the 4th.

Yeah donaire thinks he's better than he is and probably stopped working as hard as he should....throws stupid shots for no reason jumps around the ring effin stupid...

Donaire is fighting like a pure flashy one punch slugger and he's cheapin himself..just keep it natural in there...round Mathebula. Math-guy doesn't fight his frame and sharp right at all...fortunate for Donaire.

dunno why Donaire's so damn cocky with the left uppercut, he hasn't landed it a single fucking time nor has he thrown it to just set up the straight right, it's just a pointless punch he does while jumping around like a queer frog :-\

Best 2 minutes of the fight for Mathebula right there...not pretty but he just literally slapped boxed and spun the shit outta Donaire.

I'm no huge fan of Donaire but he is far more capable than this if he would just stop reading the headlines. Stop thinking KO :p

IMO Mathebula's taken the last 3 rounds, and sorry but Garcia always gives his fighter's the worst advice, "he's not doing anything" really? he's outpunching Donaire and landing some good shots

I think he did that afteer the montiel fight he's looked like this the past few fights

Mathebula has been outworking Donaire, I've got the fight even after 11, but Donaire up by a point or 2 because of the KD in the 4th round

So heres the Ortiz situation..."something broke in Mathebulas face", spitting blood. His jaw is fucked here in 12th but he gets up off stool. Jeff needs this round huge

Donaire will get this call, deserved... but he must forget all that 5 plus division superman bullshit. He looked a bit flat and phat Fat that last half and cards were too generous.

I had Donaire winning by a couple rounds, something like 116-112.

Not a bad fight, tough one for Donaire, much closer then what the judges had it.

The scores were way too wide. They did a disservice to Mathebula, who deserved better. I would cut Nonito some slack also. He didn't abandon his boxing skills. He was trying to figure out a way into Mathebula all night, which ain't easy. It's not like Mathebula was just standing there inviting Nonito to come in. Nonito ate a lot of shots, and a lot of the lunging was necessary just to try to connect. Kellerman did nail it on the head (or was it Roy?) about Nonito not jabbing enough. When Nonito started jabbing he had better luck connecting combinations.

Just think. If Nonito hadn't broken Mathebula's jaw in the 11th, and Mathebula kept the pace throughout the 11th and 12th.... the judges would've still given a comfortable decision to Nonito. More proof that judging is screwed up in professional boxing.

I'm thinking moving up in weight isn't going to be as easy for Donaire as he thought. Plus, Mathebula had a huge reach advantage, and was very hard to hit, because he's so awkward.
