A little of both, but besides Ponce what 'top' fighter has Broner faced or beaten? Broner may be really good, the thing is he hasn't proved it yet. If he blitzes though DeMarco, his fans can start saying he's all that, right now he's just a great prospect. Keep in mind, Broner's only claim to fame is winning the vacant WBO super featherweight title and defending it twice against mediocre opponents. Let's keep it fucking real.
Its quite clear that you do not like the man but I'd like to know how his fans are not being real? People make far to big a deal out of the Ponce fight. That happens and it was Broners 20th fight. Much to do about nothing. Anyone who has watched the sport in any kind of a serious way can see that this kid has enormous talent. He's only 23 and only has 24 fights. Floyd fought a battle warn Hernandez (rip) in his 18th fight followed by a weird stop against Manfredy and then a selection of worn out vets and then fighting Augustus in his 24th fight. All along being touted as special. Very similar competition background. Alvarez is drawing in on 50 fights and you barely hear a peep about his lack of comp. Yet he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Broner could be the next Floyd or maybe the next Ibeabuchi but I think he is going to frustrate the hell out of DeMarco and stop him.
Gosh Inuit, go figure, why would you think I don't like Broner bro. ;)
I know you're a big fan of Broner, but from my perspective, beating a bunch of taxi drivers/tomato-cans, then winning the vacant WBO super featherweight title and defending it twice against more mediocre opponents doesn't really prove much. DeMarco is Broner's first real test, if he looks good, then you Broner's boners might have something to start shouting about.
Keep in mind, even if he gets by DeMarco, it remains to be seen how well he will do at the next level.
So just raise the bar on a con current level. You cannot on the one hand my friend pick him to lose to Demarco and then claim if he wins it's no big deal. Thats pretzel logic. Not sure why you concentrate so much on the resume and not what you see? Robinson has a worse resume in his first 25 fights.
Not exactly, if Broner wins convincingly, I say great start.
BTW, Robinson won his first 40 professional fights before losing to Jake LaMotta.

Brother, this puts me in a tough spot ;D I am the very last man on Gods green Earth to 'defend' a Mayweather but I don't think Broner can hold a candle to what he faced by his 24th match. Hernandez wasn't battle worn but more caught in the crossroads. He and even the bipolar career-uncanny ability of Augustus alone blows what Broner has faced yet out of the water. More importantly Mayweather actually trained his ass off and defended early without telling fans he never tried to make weight and it wasn't important. Broner ain't Mayweather, I used to wear a towel around my neck and jump off the stairs like Broner as a lil kid but that didn't make me Superman.

For me its as simple as the later mostly, meaning what DeMarco has proven what he is capable of rather than what Broner has shown he is not.
Again this is his 25th fight.
That fight with Linares was no 'fluke'.
And I suppose Vaiero was? Talk about there to be hit. Valero could not box his way out of a wet paper bag.
People have rose colored glasses on for a guy who has been over 8 rounds once...once!
So? Tyson never went past 5 or 6 in his first 20? Not sure what this rose coloured thing is all about.
I know DeMarco has run much deeper in career and I think he is being written off as some run of the mill also ran.
I have not done that.
He is as methodical and thinking a fighter as they come.
So is Broner. His extraordinary defense combined with jaw shattering counter punching will end this fight.
He is a quality fighter that has made solid improvement. He doesn't flatten guys, he cuts them up and beats them up, and he has been there and done that!
Both are quality fighters.
Peace amigo and we shall see. I may be served a healthy serving of crow. Ravens this far north and about 10 times the size of a crow. Lay it on my friend should my prediction take a turn for the worse.

Granted it was his 20th fight he still looked ordinary against him, the same pdl who got blasted to hell by jml in his 20th or so fight, and then shortly after by yuriokis in his 20th or so as well. He might turn out to be a dam good fighter but for my liking its to much dam hype to early from all the evidence that's there.

Broner has fought no one on the level of Hernandez this early in his career. I don't question Broner's talent one bit...but the Floyd comparisons the media is so desperately trying to make, are complete bs...even when comparing them at the early stages of their respective careers. Floyd was a MUCH better defensive fighter early in his career than Broner. I understand...the media is always looking for the next "big thing"...but this kid doesn't have the same pedigree or skill level that Floyd possessed early on. That doesn't mean Broner does not have the POTENTIAL to be a great fighter...but his competition so far has proved nothing. You are right IamInuit...he is talented...but "special" he is not yet.
As far as the Demarco fight...Broner SHOULD easily win considering his superior skill and athleticism. But Demarco is a southpaw with power and heart..and while i think he will lose...he is going to make things interesting.

Linares was suppose to be the next big thing, and in the early rounds against DeMarco he looked good, but then DeMarco sucked it up and pretty much beat Linares to a pulp. Just saying, DeMarco is no chump, Broner is going to have to put up or shut up.

Re: DeMarco vs. Broner - Saturday night chat/fight thread
This card starts @10:00 PM ET Saturday night on HBO WCB here in North America, and at around 3:00 AM Sunday for you night owls in the UK/Europe.
Nov. 17
At Atlantic City, N.J. (HBO): Antonio DeMarco vs. Adrien Broner, 12 rounds, for DeMarco's WBC lightweight title; Seth Mitchell vs. Johnathon Banks, 12 rounds, heavyweights.
BTW, i'm sticking to my prediction that the only way Broner wins this is by DeMarco getting fucked on the scorecards, kind of like Ponce did.
:drunks:

Re: DeMarco vs. Broner - Saturday night chat/fight thread
I agree Broner hasn't been seriously tested yet but can we all agree that De Marco is a serious test? Because he is. If Broner wins you've got to give him credit for the win, especially if he looks impressive doing it. And he's on target to make the weight by the way. At the seven day weigh-in he was three and a bit pounds over the limit, or maybe two and a bit, can't remember now.

Make the weight clean, no backroom dealing and offering a percentage in penalty, giving the finger to the network and Champion. Not weighing 147 would be respectable too. None of that and we're good ;D Otherwise DeMarco should tell him to go piss up a rope.
I beat a dead horse maybe but the entire scenario in last fight really irked me. It was a slap in the face to all involved, and he essentially got a pass and was heaped praise. Unprofessional twinkie eating spoon fed mothertrucker.

Re: DeMarco vs. Broner - Saturday night chat/fight thread
Its getting close! Im starting to get antzy to hear the first bell, as is always the case when I have a sentimental favorite (DeMarco) I have really high hopes when the fight is way out but as the date gets closer I start feeling more and more worried for the guy.
DeMarco is blood and guts but I just dont think he'll be able to handle the speed of Broner...I hope Im wrong!

Broner looks muscular compared to DeMarco, but that doesn't always = better. I figure the longer the fight goes the more it favors DeMarco.

I'm pacing a trail in the carpet waiting ;D
For a rangy guy DeMarco actually does very well with solid bend of waist and knees, can come in a shell at times and still manages to get extension on long awkward slicing like punches, over and underneath. His jab has some extra pop on it.

Yes I totally agree Mars, Linares was the next big thing but he got his clock cleaned, and hopefully he
can do the same thing, to Daddy comb my hair Broner.

I hope Broner reads too many of his press clippings, underestimates DeMarco, comes into the fight overconfident and gets a rude wake-up call. ;)
If DeMarco wins it's going to make a lot of us very happy.

Do any British fans Know if Boxnation or Sky Fight night are showing any of this card in the UK? A stream is all very well but I cant stay up till 3 a.m to catch one and would rather record it on Sky+ and watch in the morning.

DeMarco fans & those that dislike Broner, I apologize in advance, but Broner is going to win this one inside the distance, in the first 6-7 rounds. It might even be a blow out.

If Valero couldn't blow out DeMarco, I doubt Broner will. I doubt Broner even wins. He'll find out DeMarco ain't Eloy Perez or Jason Litzau

Valero could not box his way out of a wet paper bag and he made Demarco quit. Valero could not throw a straight punch to save his ass and nor could he defend against one.
Broner is a completely different animal.

Spot on! best part about a Demarco win would mean none of that bullshhh hoopla in the ring that Broner does after the fight

I have yet to see Broner fight with multiple cuts and a near hachet wound in his forehead. Valero is indeed a different animal and was not untouched in that one.

Would have could have, might, maybe. You have absolutly no way of knowing that ??? Its boxing, and anything can happen on any night. You of all people know that.
It was true adversity is the point. Something Broner has yet to face and has gone out of his way last fight out to make sure of.

Look I'm not going to get into it man. I could give a flying Fk about who or how he combs his hair. He's going to dominate Demarco and if he does not I will be the first to point out the fail. I think he's a bit of a dick. That has nothing to do with the style match up.

Look I'm not going to get into it man. I could give a flying Fk about who or how he combs his hair. He's going to dominate Demarco and if he does not I will be the first to point out the fail. I think he's a bit of a dick. That has nothing to do with the style match up.
He is a dick. I'm not picking against him on that, I'm picking DeMarco because I think he's a proven and capable fighter. Broner has obvious potential but needs to crash the gate and show it. Then I'll say well done. If DeMarco wins the same should be expected. Nothing to get into brother, just a difference of opinion.
