Part of me agrees and it kills me how Guerrero is overlooked also. I think what gets it for Marquez is impeccable timing. Not only did he do this in December but its who he did it to.

JMM for sure. That ONE win outweights anything any other fighter has done this year IMO. That win has more significance not only in this year, but in boxing history.
Huge KO win over an ATG legend.
I'm going to throw some of that bullshit back at you.
Pacquiao is a used up fighter who had too much on his mind. How about this one? Pacquiao's wife and mother have been ragging on him to stop fighting so his heart wasn't into the fight. Here's some more bs that could have come out of your mouth. Marquez threw a lucky punch and probably couldn't do that again in another fight.
The way you sling bs around this one is up to your level. I don't care what the tests say, Marquez had to be on something to get a body like that. How do you like it?
That's the argument for it. Marquez fought twice and only one opponent was ranked. He had fought Pacquiao three other times so this was his fourth shot at Pacquiao. Donaire fought four times this year, against new opponents. Donaire unified titles. Donaire was moving up in weight. Donaire had a stunning stoppage too, also in December, and beat the lineal champion of his new weight class by knockout as well. It's a close race, in which I vote Donaire.
Let me pose a question. If Marquez had only won on the cards, would you still feel this way? Or was it the stunning knockout that did it?
Here is from Bad Left Hook:
I know, I know: He was expected to win and he did, big whoop. Arce was tailor-made for him, big whoop. Here's the big whoop: When's the last time you saw anyone considered by everyone who keeps or doesn't keep or doesn't admit to keeping a P4P list (even just a mental one, only in the air and their brains, tucked away from the world's prying eyes and criticism) to be a top P4P fighter fight not just four times in one year, but against four fighters all ranked in the top ten, in a division that said fighter was not even a part of coming into the year? There is no argument about this, in my view. Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO) is the 2012 Fighter of the Year.
Leo Santa Cruz. Five fights , three defenses. Just sayin.
Ok ok...Marquez
Nonito Donaire without doubt.
Give me a break : Here is the Great Nonito / Arum farce in detail:
Vazquez: 2 wins and 2 losses in last four fights (including a KO to Arce) Promoted by Top Rank
Mathebula: Promoted by Arum , only 21 years old and 4 wins and 3 losses in last seven fights.
Nishioka: Befuddled by record . He looked like a tentative amateur. He is promoted by Top Rank in association with Teiken Promotions and Tecete
Arce : Was way too small in move up to fight Nonito . Promoted by Top Rank. I have seen this rerun already it's called Manny Pacquiao .....
No Rigo no Mares .. no award or BS P4P mention !!! He only deserves the "Top Rank fighter of the year" website award.
JMM, Santa Cruz, Guerrero or Broner in order. Pac would win this award if it was him that KTFO out of JMM, why the reversal ?
LOL ... Arum learning from his mistakes, has Nonito doing random drug testing with insight from Conte . lol what a joke..
Easy to drive fast when you know the track .....
Nonito has $$$$$ potential is all Arum sees :
Born in Phils, raised in Cali , trains and friends with an all Mexican stable , very personable !!!!! English, Spanish and Filipino following !
Sergio Martinez became undisputed middleweight champion of the world.
I don't know how you can suggest JMM was fighter of the year. He landed a lucky punch and had one other fight against a bum. Also pacman clearly been on the decline for the last year.
For me it should be Martinez he had 2 fights against tough opposition. He looked better then ever against Chavez.
I don't give it to Donaire because he's clearly been ducking Rigondeaux and I'd wouldn't give it to Broner because hell probably get it next year when he beats Burns. Ward probably is the fighter of the year but with only 1 fight I'd doubt he gets it. If Froch gets it it would be a joke.
Gotta go Brandon Rios...that kid is a tough fucker, he was in the fight of the year for me as well!
I think every fighter up there earned the mention. I'd go with Marquez, he deserves it the most imo. Ward as my close second
I'm saying Ward, simply because I think only Mayweather is ahead of him p4p.
Martinez was 10 seconds away from being Manny Pacquiao yet your argument was he should be fighter of the year? Not sure why every one here that claims to know boxing keeps referring to the JMM KO as a lucky punch. He has hit PAC repeatedly with this same punch in all their fights. Only difference is JMM was resigned this time to take a
punch (beating) to land his as he knew he would have his opportunity
as in the past. Combine Pacs amateurish defensive skills and the
punch looks like the troll was assassinated. Poor fight plan terrible
defense. How has PAC declined? He really beat Bradley and apparent (lol) did enough to beat JMM. The minute Money started PEDgate the KO's ceased. Ironic if you ask me and poetic justice not a lucky punch. Look at my previous threads and I predicted a KO. I just did not expect it to be so lethal ......... So F-king comical. Sunday funnies are indeed printed Saturday night. Records do not come with footnotes.

Funny how PAC made his fame beating faded fighters with Marquee names / resumes. Now he gets KO worse then he ever KO anyone out and he is faded. This sight is full of pathetic part time boxing fans. I really thought this was a boxing site it's a BS social media site for bandwagon PAC fans surprised there are not hyperlinks to Pacs website and a nose slot for nose insertion into Pacs ass.
QUOTE=ruthless rocco;1120212] Pac hasn't looked the same since his fight with margarito in 2010. He's looked lack luster in his fights since... Decisioning Mosely who was a 40 year old former PED user & well past his prime. Manny connected with more than 8 times as many power punches and didn't finish Mosely! Barely beating Bradley and using leg cramps as an explanation for his poor movement and lack of power. The less than stellar showing against JMM in the third fight, which most fight fans believe he lost.
I've read that many people saw manny pulling away in the fourth JMM fight, but anyone with eyes and who isn't blinded by Pac's fairy tale story should have been able to see that his classic in-out movement wasn't there. His speed wasn't there. Yes he hit JMM and busted up his face, but Marquez was waiting for that one right hand to land.

How has PAC been on the decline? Because he hasn't the heart for it anymore. Preoccupied with things outside the ring. Regardless of whether he won or lost his fights he clearly hasn't been performing as well as he has in the past.
And when I say lucky punch I mean he could have thrown that same punch 20 other times and not landed so flush.

Ok so what you are saying is JMM beat Pac in all their previous fights as Pac just landed lucky / flush knockdown punches. JMM has won most the rounds out boxing Pac and this last fight he beat him at his own fight. Hell why not say all of Pacs fights were attributed to lucky / flush punches. This is how ridiculous your comment is.
Debate Manny's heart all you want and his slide but lucky punch? That is downright hilarious. That punch was a hybrid just like Marciano/ Walcott. A perfect counter/lead.

Nonito Donaire is the front runner for boxing scene.

You're a clown. He knocked him out cold. It was 1 in 10000. He'd thrown the same punch time after time and this one he got lucky with. Look I'm not saying it isn't a great achievement for him I'm just saying one punch isn't enough for him to win fighter of the year in my opinion.
Yup, it's gotta be Donaire.
ESPN names Nonito Donaire 'Boxer of the Year':
ESPN.com boxer of the year: Nonito Donaire - ESPN

Look who is really the clown, bottom line is Pac huggers are the only ones calling it a lucky punch. No one remember the previous fights, what is fresh in peoples mind is PAC laying motionless dead on the canvas. Manny KO's Hatton the same way and no one was out proclaiming it was one in a million punch. Now that he is yesterdays news you want to promote another Filipino. It's quite understandable. If Pac had KO'd JMM in the same fashion I would also say he deserved the honor. This was historical and linked to a trilogy of entertaining fights with finally a clear cut winner ( a decade in waiting of no controversy). Who will remember Nonitos hand picked five weak foes of 2012 in ten years outside of you Island fanboys ? I do however believe Nonito will have the opponents & opportunity to clearly win it in 2013 he is that talented. Remember boxing is a sport and also entertainment. Entertainment is what is driving boxing these days and the JMM fight was the most climactic of 2012 .. end of story. Biggest fight, biggest stage , etc They say Pac carried boxing for a decade and JMM tore that all down = Winner. This was billed "fighter of the decade" , this eclipses and includes 2012
At this point, ESPN, Boxingscene, Maxboxing and Queensberry Rules gave it to Nonito Donaire. Pretty unanimous.
So I highly doubt Rig or Mares would be up for fighter of the year fight such a weak stable of fighters. Once again HBO and it's announcers trying to dictate boxing. I thought PAC won round 5 by a really large margin until HBO replayed it without the announcers and it was really closer
then I thought and PAC was caught
three times with an overhand right.
One spun him totally around. The
punch that closed the show was
being measured from round three
more emphasis in round 5 and
delivered in round 6. I suppose the
1st knockdown was a luck punch
since it was the same one that closed
the show . Thank goodness no more Merchant , now he has been
replaced by a younger hugger. RJJ is the only one that saw how patient
and how JMM was setting up PAC
with body shots and counters. Of
course he is the only one that really
knows boxing . The others are just
fanboy cheerleaders . Not surprised
Nonito is an HBO fighter winning
ESPN fighter of the year award .
Simple marketing. Who can verbally
speak positively about Nonitos last
opponents. It is really average
caliber . PED target gets KO'd and
clean guy gets promoted by HBO to
sell PPV. PED becomes focal point
of post PAC fight and forum to
promote Nonito . It was really a
disgrace and so disrespectful to JMM and Mexican fight fans. This topic
could have taken place after half of
PAC's fight the last 6 years. Are we
really that stupid? Nonito is really
good it's just his last four fights were
nothing more than hand picked safe
fights. Where in life is average
rewarded? In todays boxing of
course, it is now Lucha Libre . I hear
Nonito won Facebook fighter of the year, Twitter fighter of the year, and
tickets to Nonitos next fight can be
purchased on Grupon & Living Socials.
The questions come from fighting only hand picked Arum promoted fighters that come forward with liitle power, similar to Pacs opponents . Rigo is an Arum fighters so no fight soon arum wants both to succeed. Mares is GBP fighter so you know that fight is not happening. Oscar still has no clue on how to best arum with HBO and Showtime kickbacks. So four more fights against marginal fighters and Nonito wins award again in 2013 ? Nonito does not control Arum as some try to say supposedly calling out Rigo and Mares is a joke.
