I do see your point , however Thompson isn't a real dangerous puncher like sanders.And this wasn't a monster punch, I'm not giving up on price but it was worrying the way he got one punch koed from an ordinary looking punch.

That was a turn up for the books. I expected Price to take the guy out in about 5 rounds.
Funny, really. Price is a massive guy, with decent boxing skills but he seemed to have started to believe the hype that he was a destroyer. He looked pretty cumbersome in there, was going in straight lines and was winging hooks ...... exacly the way to leave yourself open to a counterpuncher like thomson.
I'm not going to write the guy off (Jack Dempsey got starched in a round on his way up, Louis took a prolonged beating against Schmeling) and when one big guy hits another big guy, anybody can knock anybody out really.
I'll give price the benefit of the doubt, it didnt look like a big shot, but I wasnt the one taking it. If it perforated his eardrum, his balance would have been all over the place.
Nothing too wrong with being a bit chinny, what Price needs to do is sharpen up his discipline so that he doesnt get caught with shots like that. That tactic worked pretty well for Wlad.

Agreed but looks can be deceiving and that was a 260 pound plus man who caught him perfect. Even his legs were not ready for it or shall I say his feet were in the wrong place. He did look a little Carnera in there almost like he looked past Thompson towards the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Hopefully he learns, dust himself off and gets on with it. I also think he should go for an immediate rematch and not take on some soft touch. After all Thompson was supposed to be a soft touch.

Not only was it an ordinary punch, he was rolling on his back like a turtle for four or five seconds before he even tried to get up. Even Khan and Enzo Mac haven't been that badly out of it when they've had knockdowns. It's going to make all his future fights worth watching if nothing else.

The KO (where the punch landed, the impact/jolt of the head) reminded me so much of the Ottke/Mundine KO. That's a bad place to get hit.

seeing it again Price didnt see it coming --it came into his blind spot. A weird sort of counter right hook from the southpaw. Hit him on the medulla oblongata. Bad place indeed. Buddy McGirt told me personally (I did a telephone interview with him and Arturo Gatti b4 they fought mayweather in 2005) that Arturo was going to go for Floyd's "Hacoona Matata" they had coined it--the medulla oblongata. Guess that is a very bad place---I think it hits the middle ear's balancing act and temporarily off-balances you big time. That would explain price's wiggling around on the floor like a goddamned piss-ass Sea turtle.

I'll have to try and find that. He did seem shocked and devastated but also positive in the post fight interview. I realize you have not given up but I was taking a shot at people who think getting knocked out early in an undefeated career = thee end.

Its not a shock though, Fury calls him a big stiff idiot and to be fair that is a very accurate description of the way he fights. The writing was on the wall that this was likely to happen. It never really was with someone like Lewis. Price has turned pro late and is very bolt upright, stiff and looks worried when hes pressured. He hasnt been taught the pro game very well. Just moved through a few easy opponents.

I was good to go for that as well, it seemed to me at first Price was potentially over-matched here.
But then, I got nervous; I had been stung backing Botha against Williams. And sensible people were picking Price, some suggesting 'with ease'. The more I thought about it, the more it seemed 'obvious' to think Price's management knew what they were doing; Thompson was 41, damaged goods, and when he got on the scales I was mighty relived I had not backed him...:mad:

This is a fair point , maybe Price was to used to steam rolling people, and yes his hands where very low indeed , if your chin is dodgy then a good defence is vital.
