Boxings decline started after he went to prison. There is no doubt Tyson being unfairly convicted and sent away for no reason is one of the biggest tragedies in the worlds history.
Oh well.
The right management/prison promoter would have put leg iron Mike in with Ike Ibeabuchi
(another raving innocent) ;)

Yeah boxing leaving NBC was crucial, but also Boxing leaving USA was a hit...USA had Tuesday Night Fights and they had some really good fighters come through there. All the big time names fought on USA early or late in their careers...that was a big thing.
UFC has gone the opposite direction basically staking out Spike, FX, Fuel, & Fox....brilliant, brilliant move by them & they'll prosper for it. Boxing can come back around, but it's swimming against the current at the moment.
Indeed I remember looking forward to Abc's Wild World of Sports. Practically every fight I watched on the networks for free back then would have been ppv today
I really do think boxings network visibility has been the highest its been in some years. ESPN, NBC returned, hbo and Showtime. FOX Deportes, Telemundo, FUEL shows lots of 'classics'. PPV today is garbage mainly based on a single name but for all his wrongs Kings SET put on some of the best cards of the early-mid 90's. Losing the free networks was a blow but seeing it return on a Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago gives us hope. Everyone in boxing loves a good comeback.

Re: would you agree with the statement that
Boxing didn't go into decline after Tyson was washed up, but the heavyweight division sure did. Even Tyson's detractors can't argue with that.
During his prime in the late 80s, Tyson put heavyweight boxing back on the map big time and became the first boxer since Ali to transcend the sport. Even after he began to fade and it all started going wrong with the loss to Douglas, he was still a huge draw and people were probably more intrigued by him than ever. Seeing how the seemingly invincible Tyson would respond and come back from that loss was fascinating, even though he was clearly in decline.
It will be a very long time before we see another heavyweight champion like Tyson. He was exciting and formidable in his prime and still fascinating even when he was a shadow of his former self, both inside and outside the ring. Even though Tyson was only a bit part player in the 90s because of his prison sentence and ban, the heavyweight division was still pretty tasty though.
The lower weight divisions have been great in recent years, but the heavyweight division stinks right now. It's dead and the worst I have ever seen it by quite some distance.

True enough. They are at least trying to make a little comeback but both HBO and Espn and Espncl are expensive and not even available in certain areas. I cant get Showtime, FUEL, Fox Deportes or Telemundo on my Satellite or Cable. Lucky for me there are streams. I think that's where the most access is and will continue to grow but even with that up here I have a bandwidth cap which I consistently go over. I guess I'm spoiled by the past in this regard. Lets just say I don't foresee watching the likes of Arguello/Pryor or a Sanchez/Gomez type card on regular tv anytime soon.

Re: would you agree with the statement that
no...i think boxing was at a high when Tyson was unbeatable. at a low when Lennox and the klitsko's took over. Klitsko's r dominant, but not very entertaining... and with the heavyweights ..so goes boxing. for some reason, boxing is as big as the heavyweight div is..it's always been like that. forget we had Gatti, DLH, Maqrquez<morales<barrera<roy jones<cazaghi< Pac... if the heavies are't good, boxing loses power.
i hear a bunch of guys saying"poor Tyson, got sent away on a bogus charge"...hey.i like Tyson..but fuk him. remember, he'd KO the fuk out of u if u ever ran into him in the the streets, back then... for nothing. maybe Tyson got sent up on a bogus charge, but u can believe he did something in his life that he should've gone to prison for... it wouldn't surpise me one bit if there one or two people in wheelchairs becuz of something this guy did to them..or someone he ran with did... so don't lose sleep over it.

I hear ya man. I didn't find or use downloads let alone youtube for fights until I found this place. Shit brother its gone the way of network news and I still remember Cronkite. We're relics ;D The good thing with nearly all major ppv is that they will reair the main events on "pay" channel, but yeh it blows to fork out the money. Sucks you don't have Showtime? Good thing for streams indeed.

lol y u mad tho?
Tyson was more exciting than K2 ... it isn't even a contest ....
And Seldon was much better than any of Wlad's 2012 competition.

Re: would you agree with the statement that
Mad? No I'm not mad, you're just a whiny cunt and I'm sick of reading the bellyaching about "Well back when Tyson was fighting_____" ...fuck off Wlad rules the division now, you mad???

Not that he needs my help, but El Kabong has you by the short and curlys there.
Sure the brothers are now, (as Wlad used to be great fun), no where near as exciting as primed Tyson. But prime Tyson was over 23 years ago, and since then Tyson never could produce that magic again consistently.
And Seldon sucked; period. The triad of titlists at that time (Bruno, Botha and Seldon) were collectively, arguably as bad as Heavyweight boxing has ever known.

How about you just fade into "Bolivian"?
I don't have much bad to say about Tyson, he was a good fighter.....but now he's gone and he's not coming back. So here are your options: #1 You can continue to be a whiny little cunt, #2 You can try to find a new heavyweight to follow, or #3 You can stop watching (and complaining about) the heavyweights...it's up to you what you wish to do, I really don't care

No one asked you to post in it ... go wank off to wladiqueer some where else. You seem butthurt and personally offended.
So I'll give you these options:
#1 Fuck off, faggot #2 Fuck off, faggot #3 Fuck off, faggot

I answered the question, it died for me when Tyson retired. I watch in the hope that a new Tyson will emerge and bring back excitement to the heavyweight division.

Re: would you agree with the statement that
Boxing has gravitated to many stations once again and even dare I say NBC. What declined was the Heavyweight division.

...and yet I can tolerate you because you're not crying about how awesome a heavyweight who stopped being relevant 20 years ago is every fucking minute.
