Re: Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela - Saturday fight/chat thread
Looks like Zou decided to listen to his trainer and safely outclassed Eleazar for six rounds. Besides being able to showcase his evasive and timing ability, there was nothing out of the ordinary. He'll probably get matched with several fighters of similar caliber until his record is padded enough for a China-sized payday against Viloria.

Re: Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela - Saturday fight/chat thread
For any of you interested, the HBO2 tape-delay of these fights is just starting.
At Macau (HBO2): Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela, 4 rounds, junior flyweights; Roman "Rocky" Martinez vs. Diego Magdaleno, 12 rounds, for Martinez's WBO junior lightweight title; Brian Viloria vs. Juan Francisco Estrada, 12 rounds, for Viloria's WBA/WBO flyweight title
Damn, I hope Merchant is just shitfaced and didn't have a stroke or something, he looks and sounds frail. :-\

Re: Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela - Saturday fight/chat thread
I have to say it is very refreshing to have seen a card like this. All fights were excellent, very impressed with Estrada, Melindo and the Penalosa brothers. A lot of good fights and great time for us in Ireland getting Saturday afternoon boxing. I hope China keeps going with these good cards.

Re: Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela - Saturday fight/chat thread
1st up, Roman "Rocky" Martinez vs. Diego Magdaleno, I havn't seen any of this one.
Martinez looking sharp in the 1st round.

Re: Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela - Saturday fight/chat thread

There were fights before that one, well worth looking them up on youtube if there not on HBO

Agreed, it would be great for boxing, other than Zou however, China doesn't seem to have any other pros?

Thats why i think Zou is good. He is a superstar in China and will promote pro boxing and get more guys going pro. They have plenty of good amateurs so could potentially produce good pros

Re: Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela - Saturday fight/chat thread
Nice fight here, Magdaleno putting some hurt on Martinez in the 3rd round.
-
Re: Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela - Saturday fight/chat thread
Down goes Magdaleno in the 4th round, but he recovers nicely to finish the round.

Maybe this card will help make Pro boxing addicts out of the Chinese. (Bob-father must be drooling)

Round-eyed ring girls.

Re: Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela - Saturday fight/chat thread
Good round 8 for Magdaleno, minus the KD for Martinez in the 4th, this fight seems fairly even so far.

Re: Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela - Saturday fight/chat thread
Man, Donaire vs Rigon next weekend on HBO is going to be a fucking barn-burner. I believe Donaire kicks some cuban ass, i'm looking forward to it.

Re: Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela - Saturday fight/chat thread
Officially a SD for Martinez.
On right now, Brian Viloria vs. Juan Francisco Estrada, 12 rounds, for Viloria's WBA/WBO flyweight title. (I missed the 1st 8 rounds of this fight)
Sounds like a Chinese version of Michael Jackson going on in the background in-between rounds.

Re: Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela - Saturday fight/chat thread
I know its his first pro fight and all but if he does not straighten those punches out he's going to get blasted when he moves up in comp.

Zou does deserve an eggroll or 2 for that performance. You think they could have found anyone sorrier then this kid Valenzuela for Shiming's pro debut? Arum must have snatched this kid off the street in Tijuana while riding his bicycle on his way to a mexican high school special-ed class.
One can only imagine what would happen if Zou fights a tough little SOB like Estrada. Arum & Roach better keep feeding him taxi drivers and tomato cans.
-
Re: Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela - Saturday fight/chat thread
Didn't watch the Zou debut but Estrada v Viloria was a very solid scrap, great action. Glad Martinez did not get screwed with that "one" point win. Something about Tim Ryan just doesn't sound right without Clancy chiming in.
Between Michael Jackson, Taylor swift (?) and The Harlem Shake I vote the Arena execs let fans pick the future between rounds music ;D

Zou's entrance music started with a little rif or 3 from Ted Nugent. The Chinese probably thought that most Americans listen to the Jackson 5, great intelligence gathering. :-X
As for Zou's debut you didn't miss anything, Arum & Roach better nurse this midget along Chavez Jr. style or he's going to get crushed by the 1st good Pro he faces. (Bob-father is the best at protecting his cash cows) ;)

Re: Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela - Saturday fight/chat thread
Kung pao shiming sucks.. I said this before but hes not cut out for the pros..
even ate age 31, he has no man strength whatsover.. I would beat kung paos ass on the streets or inside the ring.
-
Shiming did what he was supposed to. He won. I think he did good for a pro debut, you have to remember he had a long amateur career. It will take some time, like Roach was talking about, to start fighting like a pro.
I'm positive Shiming will not be fighting for any championship for a couple of years, if ever.
This whole shebang was about opening up China to professional boxing and I thought it was a good start.
Hey, was anyone else surprised by the 'dressing room' Shiming was in? Rugs on the floor, pictures on the walls, upholstery on the furniture and a decent lamp. More like a VIP lounge than a boxers dressing room.
Monte Carlo, Macau, Vegas, and then where? Oh yeah, Argentina and then maybe London. Watching these fights at all different hours is playing hell with my schedule. Who should I complain to.

Ha! i'm thinking my 10 year old granddaughter would kick Zou's ass.

Re: Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela - Saturday fight/chat thread
I was not impressed much with Zou if I'm honest...
Oustanding win for Estrada. He had already shown what he was made of when he fought Gonzalez & Zurdito Sanchez. Both of those loses were very competative and he gave Roman all he could handle.
I expect Estrada to be around for some time at just 22 he's got a lot to learn and a lot of road to cover.
Can't believe Magdaleno lost to Martinez what a poor showing by Magdaleno.

Not so much a poor showing by Magdaleno as it was a decent performance by Martinez. Martinez kept the pressure on Magdaleno the whole fight, and simply outworked him, he also scored the only KD of the fight which sealed the deal.

Re: Zou Shiming vs. Eleazar Valenzuela - Saturday fight/chat thread
As for Zou, the Chinese can't get enough of this dude, feed him a steady diet of about 20-25 taxi-drivers, tomato-cans and homeless midgets. (Arum knows how to do this) Then find the weakest flyweight belt-holder, win a title and retire.

I agree, a lot of what you say might come to pass, but I'm hoping Shiming settles down and lives up to the hype. I like to see a Disney ending once in a while.

Don't get me wrong, I wish Zou success, it would be great for boxing. At some point however Zou will get put with a good Pro flyweight who can hang & bang with him, and I don't see a good result.
Compared to flyweights like Estrada and Vilora who are solid muscle, Zou looks pathetic physically, and he appears to be an actor pretending to be a boxer, rather then actually being one.

This is an astute and highly probable assessment of what Arum's game plan could be.
