Re: Earnie Shavers: You Would Not Have Heard Of The Klits In My Day
Shavers would get shit on by the brothers he had a chin that could be broke as well. Also with reach advantage i think he may get his crushed before he could get to him guy could fight though no doubt.

Other than the fact that all 3 of those guys would beat Randy Cobb?

Lyle, you Moonbat, do you know how old Shavers was in that Cobb fight? It took place on 8-22-1980 and Mr. Black Destroyer was born on:
Earnie Shavers 1945-08-13 6′ 0″ / 183cm won 74 (KO 69) + lost 11 (KO 5) + drawn 1
rounds boxed 367 KO% 78.4

Re: Earnie Shavers: You Would Not Have Heard Of The Klits In My Day
some people give the klits too much love. i will admit that i have a higher opinion on them than i used to but i say again, there was a reason their dominance happened once the batch of HWs retired during the lewis era. its because there were decent HWs at that time. and im not saying good HWs but decent ones. now, there are only terrible HWs.
again, shavers isnt great but if wlad had to fight the guys that shavers fought, he would have been irrelevant. i honestly think that the klit brothers wouldnt have been known by even most boxing fans nowadays.

Re: Earnie Shavers: You Would Not Have Heard Of The Klits In My Day
LOL Good old Earnie Shaver's..
Of all the delusional nostalgist boxers, trainers and "experts", Shavers has to rank right up there among the worst.
Shavers would be considered a bit of a featherfist today ironically.
And would not be able to compete as a professional boxer in either Heavyweight OR Cruiserweight because he had no skills.
Shaver was a cruiser cruncher and bum buster exclusively!
His ONLY win ever in 90 fights vs a real HW with a good record was vs Ken Norton, a chinless punch weak boxer with no pedigree who was himself a bum buster.
This is absolutely pathetic!
A guy stopped by Jerry Quarry has no place in the ring with Tyson, Foreman or either Klitschko.
Liston vs Shavers would have been a decent fight. Battle of the bums! LOL
Shaver is a boxer who the OTNB HAVE to defend at all costs as a decent opponent, because he beat Ali, if Shaver's falls, the whole house of cards from the OTNB deck falls.
Shavers is a living proof of how the golden era was one of the weakest in history.

“I believe I would have KO’d Tyson. But Tyson, he would never have wanted any part of me. Because of Cus [D’Amato] – he warned Tyson about hard hitters like myself. He [Cus] wouldn’t have let him take such a fight.”
How Shavers would have done Vs. Foreman and Liston:
“Foreman, he never wanted to fight me either. I’d have stopped him in around four-rounds. And I believe I’d have KO’d Liston as well, he was too old and slow.”
Shavers Vs. the Klitschkos:
“I’ve seen a lot of their fights, and they’re okay. But in my opinion, if they had been around in my day, you would not have even heard of them. Myself, I’d have worked inside, then attacked the body first, to bring the hands down, and then I’d have gone to the head. I’d have landed shots to the heart, a left hook to the kidney, and then shot a right hand to the head. Then you’d have heard ‘Timbeeerrr!! I loved facing big, slow guys like that. I wouldn’t have had any problems with them. In fact, it’s not just me [who would have beaten the Klitschkos], guys like Ali, Holmes and Foreman, along with myself, we’d all have been way too much for the Klitschkos.”
Shavers’ own favourite KO:
“My personal favourite KO that I scored is the one I got over Jimmy Young in 1973. He was a real slick fighter, but I hit Jimmy clean and stopped him in the 3rd-round. That was the first time I fought him. The KO win of mine that really got me into the big time was my KO of Jimmy Ellis (also in 1973).”
Shavers on the best fighter he ever went in with:
“Ali was the best fighter I faced, hands down. He was better than Holmes and all the other guys. I’m grateful that I had the chance to fight great guys like Ali and Holmes. I realise I was part of a golden era.”
Shavers on his toughest pro fight:
“Roy Tiger Williams was a real tough guy. He was so durable, and he was a mean guy. He was so tough and relentless. I was down and hurt in the tenth-round of that fight but I stopped him that same round. That was such a hard fight for me.”
Shavers’ biggest career regret:
“I wish I could fight the second Larry Holmes fight all over again. In the 7th-round when I had him down and hurt, I wasted too many punches trying to finish him. I got excited and I got tired and he recovered. If I could do that fight over again I’d have been more patient and not gotten excited. I know I had him!”
Shavers on the hardest-ever puncher Pound-for-Pound (aside from himself):
“I’d say Tommy Hearns, he had brutal punching power! Then my old trainer, Archie Moore; he was so smart, and such a dangerous puncher. Archie really knew how to place his punches.”
same old "Ya old must have forgot" and "A judge seeks glory for himself"

Can you imagine Earnie landing that big bomb on Wlad's fragile jaw??? TIMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!

1/ Wladimir has taken bigger punches than Shavers has ever thrown and remained vertical. Fact.
2/ No.. I can't imagine Earnie Shavers landing ANY meaningful punch on Wladimir whatsoever. Not under ANY circumstances!
3/ If you could put a forcefield around Shavers, he would lose every single round 10-8 without exception.
4/ In reality, Shavers would be knocked out in the first round by Wladimir under any circumstances because he had no defence, no skills and a glass jaw.
5/ Shavers would never be able to compete as a professional boxer today. Fact.

Wlad would never knock out Shavers in 1 round because he would be afraid to take any chances. Instead he would clutch and hold his way to submission.

Re: Earnie Shavers: You Would Not Have Heard Of The Klits In My Day
To say that one would have never heard of the K brothers in their days are way too full of themselves. I am not saying that the K brothers would have ramshackled everything on their way back then but they have the physical attributes and the set of skills to give any HW of any eras some tough tough headaches.
Would they have been champion? Pretty hard to say, but they would have at least been serious contenders. Shavers is too full of himself.

Agreed the two brothers would be forces to reckon with in any era.

If Ike Ibeabuchi hadn't made that call to that lying hooker the Klit brothers would both be taking more nude pics together & not boxing. Ike was the natural successor to Lennox Lewis. Man a fight between Ike & Lennox would have been a barn burner

LOL Come on... Ike who was frustrated to the max vs Chris Byrd but managed to score a KO which can be just as easily ascribed to as a fluke than anything else.
And went balls to the wall with David Tua, who would never land a single meaningful punch in 12 rounds vs either Klitshko.
Sorry, Ike was a well built, well rounded HW but he was never very specia, aside from having possibly the best stamina of any HW. I would imagine both Klitschko's and Lennox Lewis would have scored wide UD's against him with very little chance of other outcome.

Wladimir Klitschko has scored double digit 1st round KO's in his career vs opposition that might be described as being better versed and more durable than Shavers.
Earnie Shavers would be among the shortest, lightest, least skilled, chinniest opponents he has ever faced with a punch much softer than his average opponents as well.
To claim Shavers could make it out of a round with Wladimir is a VERY bold claim when properly thought through.
The proper question to ask is.. "When was the last time an opponent as weak as Earnie Shavers survived a round of boxing with Wladimir Klitschko?"

Umm. I think that Wladimir's 53 knockouts would be somewhat more frightening than Shavers 68, given the enormous gulf in quality and size of the opponents each in fact did knock out.
Shavers would never enter a ring with a Klitschko, he'd never make it that far.

Yeah I can really see Wladimir getting dusted up and going to the cards with such luminary adversaries like Alfredo Evangelista to contend with.
What scary times those 70's must have been.
Lucky I was an 80's child, I don't think I could have handled the excitement! LOL

Yeah but then again, I bypassed the punch bag eras and didn't get hit all that much, so I probably don't have early onset dementia like the rest of you seniors

Yeah well I prefer to trust my own eyesight more than the word of so called "knowledgable senior posters" like yourselves.
If I find myself the victim of scalding from you Master, I know I must be on the right track.
I have an internet connection with much of the key fights and even some more obscure ones to download at my fingertips. Being removed from the "emotional" aspect of those times I can only imagine would possibly put me in an improved position to judge the worth of a historical fighter.

You need to read and see more because your knowledge is based on what is current is best when it is not.
Eras go in cycles they all can not be the best 70's and 90's the best 2000 = suck. It will pick up.

Yeah more like your favourites fought in those eras.

I don't care if Wilder does take over. I rank boxers on their achievements. So far he is a bum fighter like Shavers and Liston. If he can beat fighters like Stiverne, then he's proven himself worthy of the top.
I will adjust my rating accordingly, and his methods to reach his goal will become relevant as "another way" to go about getting to where you want to be. However disreputable it might have been. But if he didn't have the goods, he wouldn't beat top guys, that's the point.
And if he fails? He was just a bum like Liston and Shavers.
In January, we will know what he's made of.
The fact he is more exciting than Pulev is not the main reason you will be happier. It will be because he isn't from a continental European country and you can identify with him.
-
Re: Earnie Shavers: You Would Not Have Heard Of The Klits In My Day
Liston is not a bum he was champion of the world which is more than some of your boxers you like will ever acheive.
I like Wilder, please do not make me hate him because of you.
I hope he beats Stiverne.

Sonny Liston was not a bum fine, I have been informed to cut down the name calling by @Andre. I assume he means not only posters but also boxers I dunno.
But anyhow Liston and Shavers had good records themselves but they consisted of hardly any decent opponents at all. If you deflate their records, they are shockingly poor. Manufactured exactly as Wilder is. Except Wilders opponents were atleast real HW opponents.
Anyhow why would you hate Wilder because of anything I say? I'm backing Stiverne, so what, you can laugh at me again if Wilder KO's him like with the Arreola thing and if it goes my way I don't really mind either, it's not like either pick will have required super intelligence. It's a rather intriguing match up really and difficult to predict.

No just keep the name calling stuff to the lets get it on section.
You know what happens otherwise; every thread in here slowly becomes a public pose between private waring factions.
