GGG V Ward a fight for the purists, can't see it generating much interest with the general public.!
it's a good fight for us fans, Lee will take a beating and last as long as GGG lets him, well JC Jr
take a look at them sparring on Youtube, he beat the shit out of Jr.;)
It very well could be no fault of his own. The thing is I don't care about fault, I care about big fights. This guy has had NONE. I think he's good and have for years and I want him to prove it. I don't buy into fear, these guys are fighters they're tough.
He's fought plenty of 154 fighters, if he wants to continue that's fine but go to 154.
If he wants big fights at 160 but can't get them there's no point in staying there.
My problem isn't with GGG it's with the way fans back him. He can fight a bunch of 154 fighters at 160 but it's wrong for Ward to fight 1 160 fighter at 168? Why the double standard?
My main reason for wanting Ward/GGG is I think it's a great fight. I see it as the best fight between 154-168. If Ward goes up to 175 we never see it. And if Ward gets the idea he isn't going to get the fight he will move up.
I love a Kovalev/Ward fight or Stevenson/Ward fight. I just don't want to miss a GGG/Ward fight.
I don't think Sergio ever fights GGG. I think he's ready for retirement. We'll see, but as I see it I think Ward vs 175 is being held up by the hopes of Ward/GGG and Ward/GGG is being held up by hopes of GGG/Martinez and since I don't expect it to happen it's all for nothing.
It looks like the whole damn sport has bought into the Floyd/Manny sales model of building fighters on the hopes of a fight rather than building fighters on fights.[/QUOTE]
Just to be clear, Proksa is a tried and true middleweight. His last fight was a loss against Sergio Mora at middleweight. As far as I know, he hasn't ever fought at 154. Adama was a tried and true middleweight. Macklin was a tried and true middleweight. Same with Stevens. Ishida is a now a heavyweight (no joke actually). 3/4 of Rosado's last fights have been at middleweight.
I think a passing-of-the torch fight, if that is what it is, and I'm not willing to say that until I see Sergio against Cotto, makes sense at middleweight. If GGG beats Martinez, he should then move up, unless Kid Chocolate has left Golden Boy by that time and still hasn't been beat.
But, I'm not sure why you want to see Ward-GGG so badly. Do you really think it's a great fight? I think Ward would be highly favored in that fight, at least right now. Do you disagree? The way I look at it, Ward is the second best boxer in the world by most people's standards, and GGG is still on the come up. Ward has fought Froch, Kessler, Bika etc. He clearly has more experience. Most importantly, he's naturally bigger. So, I don't see the fight as super competitive. Plus, even if we don't get the Ward-GGG fight, there will be other good fights at super middleweight at the time GGG moves up.
Plus, Ward had Dawson and Rodriguez come down in weight. Prior to that, he campaigned for Pavlik and Junior fights. I'm a fan of Ward, but facts are facts. There is no one to fight at 168 right now for him. He should have moved up already especially when the top five at 175 is pretty deep.
Golovkin @160 win against them all!!! I'm not a big fan of GGG but Sergio , Peter Quillin, and ANDY LEE have nooo chance. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HcmW4QlGL0o
I'd rather see Golovkin @168, if he was able to take on 168 I'd be a fan!!! GGG beat Dirrell before and KO'ED Bute, GGG is not a hype job he's just unproven!!! IMO there is no comparison with GGG and Ward. Ward has proven he is the man to beat!!! Time and Time again Ward won when people said he wouldn't against ANYONE!!! Not GGG!!!

Excuse me I thought Proska moved down and lost, I'll take your word he stayed at middleweight and lost. He's so damn irrelevant I wasn't sure. You say he's tried and true, how many title fights has he won? We're talking about championship level so surely he's won championship fights to be tried and true, wait no, he's tried and untrue.
I think you see me as one of those people that wants to see GGG lose. I'm not. I want to see GGG in big fights. That's it. That's why I quickly reported that GGGs trainer said he'd fight Ward if it's 50/50. Because I want to see what GGG has. You think Ward beats him, you're probably right. There's even a chance Ward makes him look easy. So what though. Ward made lots of fighters look easy. It hasn't hurt them and it wouldn't hurt GGG.
But there's a chance GGGs power is special. And that Ward doesn't like that power so he hesitates and we have a fight. That's the thing here. I want to know if the guy is special.
I've said it plenty, and I'm not trying to be a hater. If he fights Geale I'm good with that. If Sergio shows to be at top form still I love that fight. I just don't want to see more useless fights waiting around when there's quality fights available.
To give a comparison I'm a Floyd fan(the boxer not the person). I think the Khan/Maidana options are crap even though I think Khan brings some interesting stylistic/talent factors. I'd like to see him fight Thurman, Manny, Lara, then GGG. I realize that's not going to happen but fan or not I want the competitive fights.
As far as GGG I WANT the same, competitive fights. Again I realize it's business so you're going to take some easier paydays but that has no effect on what I want. There seems to be a contingent of GGG fans(and I'm not saying you) that genuinely want GGG to continue the easy path. And I just don't get that.
@Ron Swanson I 100% understand where you are coming from. I agree with the part that GGG is ready for a step up in class and I want to see it happen sooner than later, whether it's Martinez, Ward, Froch or Mayweather, because, as you stated, he might be special. On the other hand, I don't have a problem with a guy cleaning out the division, but you are correct, it needs to be top ten guys. Out of his last half dozen or so fights, only Proksa, Stevens and Macklin were in the top ten when GGG fought them. We don't need anymore Ishida's/Adama's/Rosado's or even Kirkland's. GGG is passed that stage. I don't have a problem with Lee, Geale, Sturm, Quillin, or Murray in April/August, IF he finishes 2014 with a fight against Martinez. Frankly, if Martinez beats Cotto and doesn't retire, two big "if's," if he doesn't fight GGG, it's a duck, and I'm a big Martinez fan so it bothers me to say it. Back to GGG, if he can't get a fight with Martinez this year, and he's ran through two of Lee/Geale/Sturm/Quillin or Murray, then he needs to move up because he'll have cleaned out the division. So, I guess at the end of the day, we're not too far apart, you're ready for the move up now, I'm willing to give him a two fights and then Martinez.
You can tell GGG is a quality fighter. Sergio is on the verge of retiring and wants to make money. Strum has avoided him and will continue to do so. Quillen is not in his league and is trying to avoid him. I do not want GGG going up or down in weight, just clear what is left out there in the middleweight division.
