Re: Bob Foster ~ "I Wanted Cassius Clay In 1968"
March 15, 1968
Attorney - Chauncey Eskridge stated that Cassius Clay would be willing to fight
then Light-Heavyweight Champion - Dick Tiger in the Bahamas.
Mr. Eskridge >
This would be an interesting fight, as Dick Tiger is small, but he is a muscular
guy. We have $250,000 on the table for this bout, plus closed circuit money
which could net us another $50,000.
After that, we will fight the #1 Light-Heavyweight Bob Foster in Salt Lake City, Utah.
We have $300,000 waiting for us.
We're just waiting for the fight contract {money}, and then we'll take this
show {circus} on the road.
We also see, Floyd Patterson and Buster Mathis for other bouts in 1968.
Floyd expressed an interest in fighting us in Sweden for sometime in August.
And though Buster Mathis just lost {L KO 11} to Joe Frazier last week, he is
still a Top 5 Heavyweight. Buster would be a good measuring test.
We will also take on Orville Qualls and James J. Beattie in Minnesota, in a special
extravaganza.

Most US citizens would have said the same thing at that time. You lot are not renowned for being the brightest when it comes to knowing what is outside of your own country.

Re: Bob Foster ~ "I Wanted Cassius Clay In 1968"
Not True,
Don't judge the American Intelligence on the basis of Cassius Clay's lack
of knowledge on the Geographical Aspects on country locations.
When told that he would be going to Rome, Italy for the 1960 Olympics,
Cassius asked;
"Does the Bus make many stops along the way."
True Story...

Americans are insular and think the world revolves around them. Ali is a product of that.

Re: Bob Foster ~ "I Wanted Cassius Clay In 1968"
Now I know the old man's full of shit.
Ali's well-known line about not going to Vietnam was about the Vietcong never calling him "nigger".
... and regarding his quip about Rome.... now Ali can't even make a joke?
I knew you were going over the top with some of those "supposed" quotes, Billy.
But now I see you're willfully taking them out of context.
Tsk, tsk......
-
Re: Bob Foster ~ "I Wanted Cassius Clay In 1968"
TitoFan,
Just how many Vietcong did Cassius meet in Miami Beach.
I'll answer that.............. 'NONE'
If he gave them a chance, I'm sure they would have called him a N****R.
Instead, they called him 'A COWARD'

Re: Bob Foster ~ "I Wanted Cassius Clay In 1968"
Hey Bill , I met Ali yesterday, and he gave me a bag of sweets that he said he took off you nearly 50 years ago. He said he was feeling a bit guilty, because it was only meant to be a joke , but you ran away so quickly , screaming and bawling that he couldn't let you have them back .
He asked if I could pass them on to you, so if you send me a forwarding address , I'll get them posted to you.
Hopefully , then finally you will have closure on your hatred of Ali, and also have the comfort that albeit you were Shitting yourself, you also outsprinted the Greatest! ;D

I don't believe it Primo.
Cassius was a 'true' coward.
You know it, I know it, and the 'World' knows it.

Bill, What don't you believe? that after all these years he still had your bag of sweets? or that after all these years he still remembered you? honestly , he gave me them back to post to you.
Taking this into consideration, I think the dignified thing to do is to let it go . He's a frail old man, and hatred is a very energy sapping emotion. What purpose can you achieve by continuing to hate?
Let it go Man.
Now, Breathe and repeat after me , "out with anger, in with love!" you can do it Bill, LET IT GO!
trust me , you'll feel an overwhelming surge of energy and zest for life, Hell , who knows, the Wife might even be in for a good time for a change!!!! ;)

I don't 'hate' anyone.
I always thought that Cassius was an excellent 'boxer, and a very good fighter.
But I consider him as more of an 'entertainer'.

Hang on, you've tried to find or make up as many examples of Ali's alleged stupidity and cowardice as you possibly could and you're kidding yourself that you don't hate him.
And now he's "an excellent 'boxer, and a very good fighter." Yet you're convinced that about 10 different fighters would've made mincemeat out of him. (most of them he beat anyway!!!)
Bill, I'm sure in your own little mind you believe that you are being deep and spiritual or that you are winding everyone up, but in reality, you're only winding yourself up because nobody is taking you seriously. I'm the only one humouring you.
what's next ? a Character assassination of Shirley Temple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Re: Bob Foster ~ "I Wanted Cassius Clay In 1968"
Hey,
That's Cheating.
Shirley Temple 'Black'
Cassius Clay could be a great entertainer, an excellent boxer and a very good fighter
while being a 'rat bastard' as well.
You know, Adolf Hitler did some great things too.

Re: Bob Foster ~ "I Wanted Cassius Clay In 1968"
thx master..one heckuva' thread!
Props 2 ya Mr. Paxton for standing your ground.
I think it was Carl Williams? who said something similar about Tyson.
Mike stated they sparred. I was a kid, he was a grown man.
It seemed that Ali's fight with Foster turned out the same as Tyson when he fought williams both as men.
imo
..
A coward doesn't stand up to a government that allowed Jim crow laws to exist.
A nation that prosecuted no white men who proudly took photos with their lynched victims. Need photo proof?
A nation whose preachers..didnt stand up when black girls were bombed in a church in Alabama, and not by a jihadist movement or by muslims. these were christians
this is why Ali is known the world over from the Philippines to Africa.
Bar the conquistadors who forced christianity... and you will know much of the world are muslims.
hate it if need, but where does Ali go.... and isn't loved?
called a hero for standing up to a nation that passed an act excluding Asian immigration.
half century later was forced to allow blacks to vote A year after...clay won the title.

Re: Bob Foster ~ "I Wanted Cassius Clay In 1968"
Cassius Clay
Stood for nothing, other than to help himself.
When that Church in Birmingham, Alabama was 'torched' on September 15, 1963
and those little girls died.
It was Sonny Liston who left his Boxing Tour in England to come home and protest.
Cassius Clay, well he was in Hollywood trying to better himself in signing a movie deal
with 'white' Movie Producers. The 'Scum Bag' Clay made no effort to try and go to
Birmingham, Alabama or even voice his grief over the horrible fire-bombing and death of
'4' little girls.
The 'scum bag' said not a peep about the situation.
'Scum Bag' Clay.

And are you still trying to convince everybody that you "Don't Hate Clay"?
You really need to get over this , it's consuming your life . You may not see it , but everybody else does. LET IT GO! You'll feel a better human being for it.
I've got the number of a good Psychiatrist if you need it.

Re: Bob Foster ~ "I Wanted Cassius Clay In 1968"
Primo,
There are many 'Scum Bags' that are talented individuals.
Adrian Peterson can run very well on the Football Field, but would
you let him watch your kids.
Bill Clinton was a fantastic politician, but would you let your teenage
daughter work as an intern for him.
You see,

Billy Boy , these were your words above. Now if you're trying to convince people you don't hate Ali, you're not doing a very good job of it.
BTW , tell me the "Great Things Hitler did" ?

Re: Bob Foster ~ "I Wanted Cassius Clay In 1968"
'1933'
Expansion of the 'Autobahn'
By 1936, Mr. Hitler put nearly 130,000 people to work on the Super Highway,
with another 250,000 providing service for the road crews.
These were excellent paying jobs, that moved many Germans from 'very poor'
to the level of upper middle-class.

"As late as 1930 the National Socialist (Nazi) party helped vote down a HaFraBa autobahn proposal presented to the Reichstag. Ironically, it was the work of HaFraBa that allowed Hitler and his chief civil engineer Dr. Fritz Todt to proceed with autobahn construction in 1933, the year Hitler and the Nazis came to power. Hitler quickly realized the propaganda value he could get from promoting the autobahn. He and the Nazis found it easy to take credit for the earlier work of others and make it seem that it was all the Führer's own idea."
Game , set and match! Now stop being a sap for the sake of it my little pedigree chum.

Re: Bob Foster ~ "I Wanted Cassius Clay In 1968"
Adolph Hitler
Did bring Germany out of the Great Depression.
The unemployment-rate in Germany in 1932 was over 30% with nearly 6,000,000
Germans out of work.
In 1933, Mr. Hitler promised to end unemployment.
By 1937, Mr. Hitler added 5,000,000 Germans to the work force, with the
unemployment-rate at less than 7% with 1,000,000 unemployed.
A remarkable feat for a politician.

tut,tut,tut, Billy,Billy,Billy!
"Hitler was neither smart nor very knowledgable. He was totally ignorant of economics.
The miracle of economic recovery was staged by massive deficit spending that was illegal but covered up by officials in the central bank.
In principle he spent more than he could ever hope to get back, sacked Jews and Socialists and did not allow them to be declared unemployed, forced people to work on the autobahn for less than minimum wage, so they could not be declared unemployed, etc etc.
One big scam.
In addition, the economies worldwide were recovering, he just took credit for what would have happened anyway."
or try:
"He didn't, he created some stability but these actions were based on falsehoods because all he did was make it look good whilst in reality
he made it far worse. To create more work he had to sack others first, for instance the women were removed from the work force on a grand scale but the trouble with this was once again false economics.
For instance, a young couple ready to marry were offered money to furnish their unit or rented apartment which admittedly was a good scheme when started for them but economically it did little to help the treasury except make it a lot worse off. The arrangement was such that if the bride to be was full time employed she would resign and not return to work for at least two years.
The idea being that a man would take over her job which today has some merit but in those days very few men had experience in sewing, knitting, cleaning peoples homes, cooking, gardening, nursing and related offshoot tasks that most women were good at.
You have to come up with statistical figures to make it look good and the exodus of women from the workforce related to all of the above plus more created work for the men, people were very impressed to see the unemployment rate drop but in reality nothing changed until such time when a massive amount of men were required for the arms build up but that is another story.
Hitler also insisted on a autonomous State in regard to import/Export because Germany could go it alone and be independent. With a population of approximately 58 plus million this was suicidal.
The Nazi's were notoriously useless in economic management, the amount and variety of consumables that had run out in the shops in the one party State is legendary! "
Pick the Bones out of that Billy Boy! :lickish:

Re: Bob Foster ~ "I Wanted Cassius Clay In 1968"
You are aware,
That Adolf Hitler could outdraw Cassius Clay any day of the week.
Does that mean Adolf should be called......... 'Der Greatest'.
