Yeah, I think my left hook is my best punch (now, Von, before you start filling my yard up with cow chips keep in mind I'm a southpaw).
I've been working on my cross and I think I've finally got it to where it'd hurt like buggery to get hit by it.

The funniest part was,I had to teach her the very hard to get right, rising cross, for her to get what I wantedQuote:

What do you mean by rising cross if you don't mind me asking?
I keep asking people what they mean lately - hope it's not too annoying!
Freur,
There's no such thing as a left hook for a southpaw.

No prob Sharla
You weave hard in to the direction you want the punch to come from, and turn that momentum in to rising your body in to a big overhand cross to the head
Both Frazier and Johannsen used it as their finisher
When you land it exactly right,it is,as it was called for Ingemar "The Hammer Of Thor"
I think I know what you mean - works well on taller opponents if I understand you correctly?
Yep,but to be honest, you get the Hammer right,it works well on everyone.Quote:

Not to start this farce of a discussion again (I'm going to say this and leave it! :P) but -
Von, if you can't distinguish your cross from your right hook then one or both of them aren't being thrown correctly.
left hook all the way. dropped my mate with it only yesterday.
shut up ::**Quote:

Personally...my most powerful punch is my right straight.
Former silver glover and fought alot on the streets more than I should have and I pray to the god lord every day for fogiveness. Im a southpaw. About 5'11.5 and around 210-220. My best punch is a short left hand uppercut then a right hook. If they are still standing another strait left hand. I have 5 year old son who is in the bottom25% in height and in the 60% in weight. He weighs 45lbs. This little boy can swat. Ive been working on the 1 and 2.Good lord is he strong. He can pick his Mom off the ground and she is 100lbs. Is that normal for a kid that age to be that strong.
I'm not sure it's normal you know - girls and boys are not meant to be too different in strength until much older and 100 lb sounds too much for any average 5 year old - still I'm not an expert on kids - Scrap or Lords Gym would know .......
Your wife must be a lot shorter than you to only weigh 100 lb!
My wife is 5'2" and around 99 - 101 lbs. Strength is something not uncommon in my family. Not from my fathers side but my mothers side. My uncle Jim (lord rest soul)was extreamly powerful. He won the punt pass and kick for 12 year old when he was 10. I seen him carry a short block (a block with just crank rods and pistons no heads or manifolds)455 olds bigblock across the back of the garage and that is a very heavy block around 450lbs. My sister in high school was 5'7" and was 130lbs and could bench 155 easy. I was benching 300 lbs at a 170lbs and alot shorter... 5'9"(junior highschool). My highest ever was 355 and 405 on a decline and I think his genetics are more freakish than mine or my sisters. My dad said I was never that strong at that age.He could lift her up like that when he was 4 . If this is true that kid is gonna swat like a bear.Quote:

I used to have a pretty tough left hook- I grew up watching Olivares and all those guys fight in LA- but since I got sick and all I just cannot find it anymore. That fluidity and smoothness, the timing and force just ain't there any more.
My straight right hand, however, is about 80% better than I have ever thrown it. Same with my straight left- technically a "jab", as I'm orthodox in stance, but if you get the feet and hand/arm working together, its a "straight left"
Right Hook! BANG, and your out.
my main game plan is to get you on the ropes, push off with my left hand and then hit you with left and right body shots, as I switch footing a la Ricky Hatton. (He's who I learned it from.) Then I'll catch you with a short left hook and an over-the-top right hand.
right cross
right uppercut ;D
Left Cross / Right Hook (Southpaw, of course)
jab then hurry snap a left hook to the body
Right uppercut to the body probably.
Actually im going reply to this topic, again and say it depends on the opponent.
Best finisher , can get shifting power onto the end of a twisting step, out around an extended left arm, which hides it coming in too.Quote:
