I think gay is from גֵּאָיוֺת (gaiut) which is to be proud , which is similar to the main theme of homosexuals: "gay pride"
So, gay has nothing to do with "happy", it is just considense they sound similar in hebrew.
pride means confidence or rather self-confidence, so if you believe in "yourself", your skills or looks or body, etc - you are ON THE WAY TO GAY, ahahahah
