Also,Malignaggi is not good enough to evade Cotto's shots,he has fast hands, and if Cotto works the body early,he can finish Malignaggi off. The only way Paulie is going to win is if he SERIOUSLY stinks out the joint.
You feel the same about Margarito and Floyd don't you.
I don't think Paulie's lack of power is a disadvantage, its an advantage because people want to walk through him. I think he has a strong jab. He could pull the upset. Depends on if he can take Cotto's shots... if he can then Cotto may be in trouble.
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
Naaa, with Floyd Margarito,I know Floyd is HOT HOT favourite whereas Malignaggi does not have the tools to get by Cotto! I mean, I don't even understand why he is getting a title shot,I dod not know he was a number 1 contender and I never really heard of him before he opened his mouth after a fight with some bum and said Cotto was nexT?! I don't think anyone can take Cotto's body shots which will surely one day become legendary!! I forget the name of the fight,Perez I think, where Cotto nails him and Perez get's koed from the body shot! I felt the pain.
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
I don't think anything tops Roy Jones' knockout of Virgil Hill. I remember Roy doing the Ali shuffle one time and then hitting his opponent with a right uppercut to the body so hard he reacted like he'd just been low blowed(when it was right to the center of his gut)
I think Malignaggi has the tools to beat Cotto. Cotto has the tools to beat Malignaggi but does he have the style.
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
Oh,some of Roy's kos were legendary for sure!!! I just think that although neither has faced anyone with the style of the other,it is a bigger leap for Malignaggi than it is for Cotto. However,if Cotto somehow lost,I wonder what would happen!!!?
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
He would probably move up to 147.
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
Would he try to rematch>? Gosh,he would lose a lot of respect wouldn't he?!? I know when he wins this,he is schduled to fight Castillo and then he will move up,I hope he beats them both, moves up and fights Hatton,Mayweather and Margarito!!!!
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
I don't think he'd look for a rematch. He hurts himself fighting at 140 as it is. He shouldn't make the same mistake Morales did.
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
As much as I hate that kid, I would say at his best....he does have the style to give Cotto problems. Pauls easy enough to solve if you pay attention. He's got good ring generalship but he has a habit of predictably shooting a pair of shots at you when he feels himself nearing the ropes or the corner to gain some room to move and circle. Cotto can make this fight easy for himself and walk Paul back and step in with some thunder right down the middle when Paulie goes for that pair of punches.
Cottos got the power to hurt Malignaggi if he works him long enough. The only probably i see is that the Cottos camp has a habit of basing his fights on his style of boxing rather than how he matches up with his opponent sometimes. The theory seems to be what most people are saying on this board. That Paul runs and Cottos stalks and eventually catches him and Ko's him. I personally give Malignaggi a decent chance if he comes in his sharpest and fights a smart fight. Paul can lose this fight easy by trying to prove something and getting Ko'd.
The way I see it unfolding is, Paul dances clinches, runs, dips, dives, twists and gives Cotto fits for a bit and then winds up losing the fight anyway. Controversial decision for Cotto?... maybe. I think Paulie will lose points possibly somewhere along the way for something like spinning his opponent, pushing or something like holding the arm or the head down in an effort to thwart the body attack. That will get him hit on the cup one or twice too. A Cotto Knockdown makes a possible difference in a victory for Cotto. Maliganngi will have lots of complaints.
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
Malignaggi's only chance is to dance (not the Judah dance) all night. He has to stay away from Cotto's power. He will get caught with a shot here and there, but he has to limit those shots to one or two at a time and then get out of the way. This can also work against him when it goes to the cards. He has to try to wear Cotto down from chasing him all night. He cant KO Cotto so if he can tire him early then those body and head shots wont have as much on them later in the fight.
Cotto has to find a way to get him in a corner or against the ropes early and start working that body. Let Paul know he is in for a long night. If he can get in and work the body early he can make it a shorter night. But he has to be prepared to move all night long trying to catch Paul.
I like Cotto to win this by a late (T)KO but if Malignaggi can stick and move effectively all night then it could be a long night for Cotto.
