Re: Does this make Margarito a coward?
what i don't understand is that when mayorga had three of the major belts at WW why didn't margarito fight him to unify the belts? or even after spinks beat Mayorga he still could have fought him to unify the belts...and lastly nobody has stated what has tony done to deserve the big payday with PBF...I mean he's only beaten one fighter and he has FOUR LOSSES...period...don't care when he got them he has them....four losses to nobodies when compared to floyd's resume...one of his losses came to a fighter that right now has 9 losses in 22 fights....13-9...what?! Also what is weird to me is that most say "I don't doubt PBF will beat him, but i want to see the fight" that's fooking stupid...because floyd wouldn't get credit anyway...i hope margarito never gets a real shot because he really isn't paying his dues by beating the other real contenders...and someone said he was #2 on the WW list actually he's #6

Re: Does this make Margarito a coward?
I wouldn't say Margarito is a coward, but he's not deserving of a title shot against Floyd, unless he beats someone like Mayorga, Spinks or Mosely. I hope Floyd takes the Margarito fight after Zab to show that he WILL BEAT Margarito.

Didn't we have this conversation before ???
He called out Mayorga repeatedly, even wearing a wanted: Ricardo Mayorga shirt to one of his fights. I'm not saying Mayorga was scared, it probably had more to do with the fact that Mayorga was a King fighter and Margarito was an Arum fighter and those two don't work together unless they think its big money, and even then rarely. But you definitely didn't see Mayorga calling Margarito out, it was the other way around.
You don't care when he had his losses? Its clear that some of his losses came from him being a pro when he shouldn't have been. Do you see him losing to 9 loss fighters now? If he was losing to 9 loss fighters now then a PBF fight wouldn't even be talked about
After all, the only fighter who loses to guys with 9 losses and can still get a fight with PBF is Judah ::**
I think PBF would beat Margarito, I happen to think PBF would beat most guys, but at least it would be an intriguing fight. Were these intriguing fights: N'dou, Bruseles( ::**), and an old as hell Sharmba Mitchell who was lucky to get out of a fight with Chris Smith. PBF's last two decent fights were against Gatti and Corley, not quite as dangerous as a 147 pound Margarito. Did you complain about Bruseles, N'dou, and Sharmba getting a shot at PBF? Or even Corley? If you didn't, why are you complaining about Margarito getting a shot?
And Margarito is 6 in the boxrec rankings. Newsflash--boxrec rankings are a joke. You do know that they have Chris Byrd as the pound for pund 5 best fighter in the world right? And they Chris John at number 7 while Winky's at 10, does that seem right? Oscar De La Hoya as the 9th greatest middleweight of all time, I guess he got that by "beating" Felix Sturm ::**

Actually, it had to do with Spinks beating Mayorga. And NOBODY HAS TOLD ME WHY MARGARITO DUCKED A FIGHT WITH SPINKS!!!
-
Re: Does this make Margarito a coward?
When did he duck a fight with Spinks? That's news to me
Got a link?
-
Re: Does this make Margarito a coward?
Not going to search, I go from memory.
Spinks tried to make a fight with Tony both before he beat Mayorga, after he beat Mayorga and after he beat Judah the first time. Can you explain to me why?
-
Re: Does this make Margarito a coward?
why Margarito ducked those fights.
-
Re: Does this make Margarito a coward?
I follow boxing very closely and don't remember anything like that
Makes no sense, why would a guy who wants to fight PBF duck Spinks ??? A link would help
-
Re: Does this make Margarito a coward?
If I find one I will provide it to you. and lets not forget after he beat Mayorga some people felt that if Mayweather went to 147 that Spinks could beat him. All before the Judah fight.
-
Re: Does this make Margarito a coward?
CC's Gyrokia,Oumafan and of course Mick. This is honestly one of the weakest argued threads I have ever seen in my life with random accusations like "Margarito ducks Spinks etc" with absolutely no basis on fact whatsoever. Palease! What is Spinks going to do to Tony? Also,as soon as Floyd movd to 147,Margarito stated he wanted to fight him. Anyway, Margarito has set aside a date with the winner of Floyd and Zab so let's see what happens.....
Also, it's really weak to say he has done nothing to deserve a shot at the best, people said that about guys like Winky,JMM etc too. Look at Tony's record.Unbeaten at WW for 9 years? Beaten young hungry opponents and people say he has done nothing, well his record looks better than Zab's. It looks better than Floyd's in the last 3 years.Cintron,Lujan,Lewis,Gomez, granted they are not world class but you have an unbeaten power puncher with 1 punch ko power,a rugged and tough Lujan,a former champ in Lewis who wsa expected to outbox Tony, and a guy with a shotgun for a right hand and unbeatne in 6 years or something. They are the only guys with the cohoonas to fight Tony. All you hear from Floyd is what has this guy done etc etc blah blah blah but that is a weak and pathetic argument. Margarito actually desrves his shot unlike Zab and $6 mill is being offered to PBF,if Margarito is so easy to beat, why not pick up the easy pay day like he did against a broken man in Sharmba and guys like Brusselles?? Also, Floyd has been contradictory in his opinion of Margarito, pre Gomez saying that he was easy to beat etc, after Gomez, saying he is actually quite good or something, someone had a link to iy.
Why the hell are people giving Mayweather a "this is business and it's not going to make money."
Boxing is business, aka Prize Fighting. Money rules the world. We all know this.
But the reason why fighting is the best sport on earth, is because honor is involved. It's one of the few sports where they "train to win" not "practice to play good." To be a champion is an honor. And in order to attain that honor, you must fight on all comers that deserve their opportunity.
One of the best points I have ever heard.Period.
-
Re: Does this make Margarito a coward?
You discredit Spinks but if Spinks is all bad.. then why did Margarito not fight him to unify then ;) You still aint said why.
-
Re: Does this make Margarito a coward?
Come on Starr,I thought someone as knowledgeable as you would no better than to throw around random, unapproved accusations with no evidence whatsoever.I mean really.... ::**
-
Re: Does this make Margarito a coward?
The title of the thread is so ridiculous it's funny. Margarito has been a busy fighter throughout his career, fighting pretty much whoever was available and expected to enhance his ranking if he beat him. Hercules Kyvelos was supposed to be a serious test for Margarito, and only after Kyvelos was completely outclassed and overpowered did people demote his status somewhat. One of the calling cards of a great fighter is that people think an awful lot less of the fighters he beats after he destroys them.

I remember! And I resent that you even suggest I'd say something without knowing it.
You should learn, really not to challenge me.
Time to teach you a lesson... Old Purist style
Once Cory Spinks beat Pichirillo he tried to make a fight with Margarito. margarito declined and this was AFTER the Andrew Lewis fight. Cory tried to make that fight and Margarito avoided it.
Why do you think Margarito was inactive for 8 months and Spinks being inactive for 9 ???
And I'll also point out that after he beat Mayorga Cory Spinks called out Margarito.
Margarito a month later fights Hercules Kyvelos And Cory Spinks tries again to make a fight with Antonio Margarito for his April defense. And Margarito AGAIN declines.. causing himself to be without an opponent and becomes inactive.
Cory goes through with the April defense and faces Zab Judah and defends his title although almost losing it in the 12th round.
AFTER his April defense Cory Spinks again calls to fight Margarito!
Spinks has a defense on September, he calls out Margarito who he can get.
Margarito AGAIN declines and opts to use the date to fight Daniel Santos in a move up to weight.
So Margarito moves up to fight Daniel Santos 8 MONTHS. removed from the Hercules and 2 ATTEMPTS from Cory Spinks to make the fight.
Margarito fights Santos and is beaten.
While Cory goes with the date 7 days before Margarito's Santos fight and defeats Miguel Angel Gonzales.
Now after this fight both Margarito and Cory Spinks have an open date February.
Cory Spinks TRIES A THIRD TIME to make a fight with Antonio Margarito for a February fight.
Margarito AGAIN DECLINES!!!
So Spinks decides to fight Judah rematch in February and is beaten.
Margarito fights 13 days after Spinks is beaten and defeats Lujan.
So don't you DARE try to say what I say is random.
I'm expecting an apology now ;)
-

Where you at Game? I didn't want to do that to you but seriously, you were pushing it. Where's my apology?
edit: I got tired of waiting. I'm going to bed, I hope to see your apology in the morning. Good night :)

Re: Does this make Margarito a coward?
you know what all this speculation "he ducked him, no he didn't he ducked him" is nonsense...point is margarito hasn't beaten anybody except cintron..and I'll say again he's already got FOUR LOSSES that's why he has to take back seat.....and this crap about "why would margarito duck spinks when he's willing to PBF?" DUUUUUUUUUUUUH!!!! PBF is worth more money even in a loss than he'd get against spinks.....but he wasn't willing to fight spinks because the risk of him getting exposed was too high...alright that was speculation but whatever he still hasn't done anything to attempt to cash in on PBF....

He fell asleep. So I've got the night shift tonight. ;D
Starr,
There is an easy explaination for your question. It even has to do with the title of the Floyd and Zab fight, "Sworn Enemies."
Zab and Floyd are old buds. BUT their promoters are the real Sworn Enemies.
Don King vs Bob Arum
That's why Spinks Margarito never happened.
Just a verbal, "I want Margarito!" Spinks quote isn't good enough.
Promoters have to talk, fax, send a quote, communicate, and deal with each other in order to make an offer.
King or Arum won't deal with each other, unless they feel they can make the big ones. $$$$ And lets face it, Spinks is gone, but is there any large cry for his return? Spinks Margarito is a great fight to the purist fight fan, but to their promoters, they want a fight that is guaranteed to make the deal worth the pain of dealing with each other.
The thing with Mayweather, is that Arum promotes both Floyd and Antonio. Where Arum doesn't have to deal with another big headed promoter asking for a certain percentage also. So it's much easier to try to iron out a nice deal for everyone. Arum has wanted Mayweather Margarito for quite awhile, I've even seen Bob introduce them on stage during a promotion for another fight.
Except Mayweather would rather fight the Sharmba, N'dou, Brussels of the world. And take on the Dance Dance Zabolution Boy.

I think my man Gyrokai explained way better than I ever could! because it's complete bullshit, he's fought Andrew "six heads" Lewis and was blown out in two, moved up to 154 where he was completely screwed over in Bayamon when he fought Santos, Cintron, and Gomez, he won all in an impressive fashion (except the robbery that was his fight with Santos), Mayweather's run at 140 is a huge joke, he had 3 fights, and only one title fight, he never had the balls to defend the title, instead he fights the bum that is Sharmba Mitchell, i think if you wanna say anyone is scared it's PBF, he had plenty of fights at 140, Cotto, Hatton, Witter, Torres, Branco, Tzyu, Malagnaggi, and even Harris (if you wanna put an easy one in there), but no he chooses to fight Mitchell, and then the ever so shitty Zab "super fake" Judah.

First off if you give margarito credit for beating six heads after he got blown out by MAYORGA...certainly Mayweather gets credit for beating shamba...i mean are you seriously comparing six heads to mitchell because that'd make you look dumb...also at least ZAb had the real belts at WW not the corny WBO...who did margarito beat for that? because mayorga and forrest fought to unify them...RM won, then lost to spinks, who eventually got stopped by Judah....judah's one fight with KT alone, albeit a loss, makes his fight resume better than margarito's.... and why didn't he have them all I mean he's been at 147 his whole career...B-hop had all the middleweight belts when he decided to live in the division....
And if you're in a division for ten years and don't fight any of the primary fighters somethings wrong...at least PBF can say he didn't fight the guys at 140 because he moved out of the division...what's margarito's excuse?
AND HE'S GOT FOUR LOSSES!!!! FOUR one to a guy that's 14-9 :lolhaha:

Four isn't so bad, but your boy is gonna step in with Judah right? Last I heard, he lost to a nine loss record fighter. If four is laughable, what does that say about Judah?
First things first, Santos is much better than Carlos Boldimir. Also that was a close fight, stopped prematurely due to and accidental clash of heads. Some scored it for Margarito, some had it a draw, perhaps some thought Santos won. But Santos is Puerto Rican and can you guess what happens when you have a close fight, or even a fight in another country against a hometown favorite? (Roy Jones knows the answer to that, because he never fights overseas.) Life happends, and it happened to be that Margarito got the loss. It's a loss, every fighter can lose. That's why boxing is so compelling. Any fighter can lose. So it can be said that Santos is the only one to barely edge out Margarito. No shame in that.
I have no clue what your talking about, 14-9, is made up as far as I'm concerned.
Margarito became pro when he was 15. He would marry his highschool love and lose three times total, during his teenage years. His last Welterweight loss was when he was 18. One loss from a guy 3 years older than him, which counts for a lot if your a little teenager. And the other two from guys 10 years older.
Losses happen when your young, especially if your professional debut is at the age of 15. What were you doing at the age of 15? Steeling snicker bars from the 7/11? I didn't even have a job at the time.
Mayweather is blessed to have had the chance to start as an amature. And you can bet he lost too when he was young. But I'm not going to google it, in order to say Mayweather is a chump because he lost when he was a teenager. Because that is just total nonsense. Just like your argument about 4 losses.
And if you can't get 4 losses out of your mind. Just think of Carlos Boldimir. ;)

Re: Does this make Margarito a coward?
I wouldn't say Margarito is a coward, the timing for certain fights might have been off, or something else. I don't know, and only the fighters know the truth, all we can do is speculate. A couple of years ago, Margarito wasn't ready, now, noone else is ready for him. Because of all the "ducking" or "mistiming", Margarito should have to fight a bigger name than Cintron, before getting a shot at Floyd. But, I hope Floyd takes Margarito before Oscar or Hatton so he can show people that Margarito is not ready for him.

Agreed.
I don't by any means think that Margarito is a coward...I think that he's a really good fighter...but lately...his fans are killing me with this Floyd is dodging him or Floyd has to fight him horse shat...especially since Floyd has finally landed the fights that he's been trying to get for the past two years.
That's my only gripe. Everyone starts discrediting Floyd for facing the fighters that he has fought...but the funny thing is this...he's fought better fighters than the ones that Margarito has & he's beaten them more soundly & he's done it with style.

and secondly if he wasn't ready to turn pro he shouldn't have...i really could care less about him marrying his high school sweet heart how is that relevant?...and I don't need to look to baldomir because he has 42-9...not 13-9....so losing to him wouldn't be as bad..and you mentioning judah what does that mean? because even though judah lost to baldomir he still has a better resume than Margarito...hagler didn't get the big fight until later, but i guarantee you this he didn't lose to guy that was 13-9 at any stage of his career...don't make excuses for this guy...besides i don't why you and other margarito pushers are so anxious to watch

"Margarito should have to fight a bigger name than Cintron, before getting a shot at Floyd."
He's the most consistent Welterweight alive. Nobody can argue against that without looking like a fool.
And now he needs to do more to earn a shot at Welterweight version Floyd?
I agree. Margarito does need a "bigger name" soon, but he's been asking for that name for years. He needs his chance.
If Margarito is not ready, and is so "green" as you guys say he is.
Why didn't Floyd fight him earlier? Lets test our math.
4 million for Sharmba
6 plus million for Margarito fight
That's more than a 2 million dollar raise for a fight?
Hmmmm... if Margarito is so "green," and such an easy fight... I think we should go with that fight instead. Why not, we can buy another house, with that extra 2 mill.
What does Mayweather do?
Fight Sharmba for 4 mill.

Sixteen. If your going to base an argument on a sixteen year old Margarito...
Yeah your right.
Margarito doesn't deserve any kind of shot for the big time. Because he lost when he was 16.
Hell, retire Marg! You suck! That sixteen really ruined it for you!
I never imagined how a sixteen year old fight, can decide the fate for an entire career.
Thanks SalTheButcher JonesJrMayweather for this enlightenment. I finally see the light.
The light of idiocy. :appl:

mitchell will never be worth more then 4 million in the future
if margarito beats a few better fighters and he becomes more well known, he could go far above 6 million

I been telling you it since the beginning and even gave you the reasons and the facts why. So I can tell you this! Because you didn't defend yourself at all. You think gyro explained it better because you couldn't, and you are now back to the "touch streets raised so he ducks nobody." which has no valid arguement. I even gave you when there was attempts and inactivity periods which you still haven't proven to me why. But whatever, I already proved my point and you couldn't respond. Margarito ducked Spinks, end of story.

In other words, he's conciously avoiding Margarito because he can make easy paydays in the meantime.

Re: Does this make Margarito a coward?
more like he can make alot of money if margarito gets more exposure first, but a margarito he already beat wont be worth more in a rematch

"but tell You what, I know how to count money" -Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Why won't Floyd fight him? because Floyd is a smart business man and knows he holds every advantage over Margarito and would beat him easily. he is waiting for a 10 million dollar promotion to beat Margarito up. Once he lets it get juicy to the point where he can get a LOT of money for it, he will fight and beat Margarito in an easy fight and walk away with 10 million dollars. It's why anyone fights those "avoided ones"
