Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
The Frenchman is trying to air Wilder out
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Big one and done bombs on Duhaupas! sharp shots but he has to tighten up.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Wilders feet don't look very good here. And this swelling looks like its really bothering him. Uh oh.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Covering up like the Maginot Line hoping Wilder blows his wad. Guys got some chin and he's getting in some
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Wilder moving right into the blind eye, good composure though..he's complaining about rabbit punching 4 times but two were jabs.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Pretty sure Wilder had the literal sink tied to his hands there...Johann took a bashing last minute and ref is looking for a reason! I don't see reason to warn French in corner
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Oh no here we go with the ref looking in constantly
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Deontay looking amateur late 6th honestly, bit windmill load up on terrible feet.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
I gave the announcing team another shot but man oh man are they on the payroll. Wilder looking a little spent after 7.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
When you do the Ali shuffle and Jones Jr. chicken pose to start round only to lay on your opponent end of 7th...you're not learning anything
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
I see Russ Anber in as Wilders cut man and obviously co-trainer with Breland
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Jack Reis will stop this, its in the cards
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Wilder acting like he just beat the big dog.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Ref allowed a lot of punishment, seen plenty of fights stopped prematurely.
Not all named fighters can fight.
Not all no namers can't fight.
America knows this fight was very entertaining. End note, I think wilder can swell easy.
Boxing fans find shit wrong in every fight. Casual fans saw this as lighting up the hw division.
Great fucking fight to introduce back on nbc.
Wilder missing shots that his foe ducked under. Even though wilder and team failed to adjust to his wild misses...Wilder adjusted and used that uppercut.
Unlike Vladimir who lost in his early bouts...Wilder hasn't.
Great beat down for a fighter who had a hell of a chin swollen eye didn't frustrate wilder 326 punches landed at 50 percent to his foe who landed only half that.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Humbled post fight interview. Wilder is exciting to watch.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Wilder has maximized what he has available, very solid finish and believes in himself. Great confidence. That said..he cannot put Alabama fan base in a suitcase. I don't see him ready for Wlad in this lifetime

I disagree. Wilder didn't maximize. If so he would have depended on one or two things with no adjustment.
He adjusted later rounds and found that uppercut. He landed punches with both hands an landed every where.
Deontay at worst proved he is still a work in Progress.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Again.
Damn good fight. NBC benefited. Wilder proved he can go the distance
against with a come forward fighter.
This was wilder's Corrie Sanders.

He found the uppercut on a Stiverne who literally moved his head what, 4 or 5 times tops? Its always been a staple and used as finisher but all have fallen prior. I was most impressed that he fought and maintained beyond an essentially closed left eye, while going into it. I like the explosiveness...but I do believe we've seen the best of Wilder going forward and he'll have to cope.

Agreed given the level of opponent. Povetkin decapitates him, Wlad hospitalizes him.

Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Charles Martin vs Vincente Sandez on NBCSP. Not sure why they need to switch networks to air a full card.
Sandez has the body of a lava lamp. This might be quick
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Sandez dropped in 2nd, Martin carrying him a bit
Down again after huge counter straight left. Sandez up but leg locked and out on feet ref waves it off
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Wilder did not look good tonight. He needs another 2 or 3 fights before he's ready for Wlad.

I really haven't seen anything from Povetkin to make me believe that. I don't think he's active enough inside to get the better of Wilder. One problem with these Eastern European heavyweights is that they fight accustomed to being the "big guy" in the ring because they stay in the in the amateurs so long and that is the case. I had high hopes for Povetkin turning pro because he seemed to punch short well with power but he has never adapted to fighting a taller fighter. He's 6'1 or 6'2 and will look tiny against Wilder. And he doesn't have a win like Stiverne on his record. Good wins, but I think Wilder is a bit too athletic for him.

I liked it too! Everyone was thinking and saying Johann wasn't much to worry about with him being slow handed, slow footed, and not much of a fighter.
I think Wilder is doing the right thing. He's fighting bigger fighters, getting some rounds in, and not rushing into a fight with Wlad.
It took some doing but Wilder did get Duhaupas out of there late. I think most would agree Johann is about as durable as they come!
Not a brilliant performance but acceptable in my opinion.
He absolutely did not use his jab enough and did look sloppy at times but I liked the way he stayed calm about his eye and stuck to the plan. That was definitely the most adversity he's faced in the ring.

This is the problem with mainstream channels they generally only show the main event. How do you access the extra channel? Cable channel?

Wilders footwork is pretty shit but showed some grid the Frenchie with the German sounding name has a hell of a chin but the way povetkin been devastating fools lately id have to favor him

Have you watched povetkin's last few fights? I think they got him on the ivan drago roids or something cause he been putting dudes to sleep and wilder is open to an overhand right from a shorter dude i think

Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Wilder had another hand picked foil in front of him. He was supposed to get rounds in.
The opponent was never meant to be any kind of threat. They are desperately trying to find acceptable WBC defences before they face zpovetkin but like spicoli said, this is it with Wilder. Hes not going to get any more skilful, maybe more experienced over the distance but theres a few fighters he needs to avoid.
Wilder toughed it out but made it tough on himself. Seemed very easy to connect with the jab loads up and tires himself and how did that eye even happen?
I think Wilder looks shit but beats Povetkin. Povetkin is too small.
If Wlad actually defends against Tyson and Wilder gets past Povetkin there is a huge unification fight between Wilder and Fury.

At least he acknowledged his critics and stated that he is determined work on his flaws and prove the doubters run. Got to respect that.
Normally fighters act like everything is kosher or flat out be in denial.

Cable channel, a sports and special interest affiliate.

A lot of 'ifs' and it would be huge, but like someone said in another thread don't bet the house on it. There's possible weak links with huge disappointments at both ends of that chain.

Wilder is in excellent condition with very little body fat, did anyone else notice the way the puffiness under his eye was bouncing up and down. My two grandsons, they are 7 and 11, enjoyed watching that as much as the actual fight. Monsters is what they are with them trying to rap to the bounce.

It must be good to see general fans being able to watch heavyweight champions on mainstream TV. They are next generation who will say Wilder was the greatest!

Nice

Re: Deontay Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas on NBC
Duhaupas was tough and showed a lot of heart. Wilder was wild but put some hurtful shots together.

LOL! Sanders probably defeats Duaupas for sure. Not comparing their styles, rather the level of comp that Wladmir fought at this stage of Wilder's career is no different. Did you back then think..Sanders was a match for Wlad? Or hand picked to get rounds in?
