Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
Considering the decision in Germany tonight I think we're due a hometown decision. Alvarez gets the win over a guy with far less commercial potential. And if this means that Quebec fight nights are furthered then that's fine by me. This is a hotspoet for boxing and a place where big fights can be made -- we're watching a main event funded by Quebec fight fans tonight. They've got few guys of their own so tonight we're watching a Colombian and a Romanian as the hometown fighters. And that's fine by me. Boxing needs everything it can get.
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
Seems like it should be the 20th round ;D. Honestly lost track, pretty level fight after 11th. Chalemba bit sharper shots, Alvarez flat. Stevenson already signed for winner they say...Kovalev keeps laughing.
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
The announcer team seemed to only see Chilemba doing work. I really get annoyed when they try to influence how viewers see the fight.
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
Not a great fight, but I thought the card was a little odd, with that one wide decision for Alvarez which I couldn't see. Nonetheless, Chilemba is a bit of an acquired taste and like Sakio Bika, I can see why some judges wouldn't give him too much.
Anyway, it does suggest that if DeGale intends to take it to the cards, he will need to be dominant to get the nod.
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
It will be obvious early on if Bute has anything left
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
Think I've heard DeGale mentioned to have 'Benn like confidence' by showtime crew three times now :-X...sloooow down fellas. There is one Benn. He's not here ;D
that said Bute has that full diaper walk. fact
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
This is a pretty good action fight so far probably Degale 2-1 through 3. Close one.
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
Rnd 5 and DG is letting Bute come forward and he lost the fourth. Bute looks actually confident. DG needs to start going forwards or he's going to lose.
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
DeGale started off well, but he's really taken his foot off the pedal, and Bute is coming back into it. Nasty cut, and DeGale needs to put in some good clear rounds.
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
Round 7 and DG landing the best punches but going backwards. Bute will be winning the hometown rounds. If DG can't start pushing Bute backwards he loses this.
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
DeGale seems the more dynamic, but Bute is going forward and throws good workmanlike combos. Degale by two maybe, but needs to finish strong to confirm it.
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
DG needs a KO last round.
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
Tough fight to score. Close fight. Bute may have inched it but James got an early jump I think so it could be a draw. As noted neither raised their arms.
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
Fuck me. A hometown decision for the away guy. I thought Bute won that fairly easily.
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
Damn ok make him the winner that's fair enough but ffs 117-111
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
Well, I had it by a couple, and I know from the comments here that not everyone agrees. Can't argue that it was a hometown decision. Personally I thought Bute was hitting a lot of gloves, and when DeGale did throw he had more venom in his punches.
As for DeGale's comments "I'm peaking now....", you have to hope not otherwise he won't have that belt for too long.
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
Was a good scrap, DeGale won with his output and crafty combos. They both were using the should/elbow so it kind of evened out. Fair scorecards I might have had it a smidge closer but not much.
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
Razor thin fight either way, but I did think Bute edged it. Wide scorescards really leave a bad taste after that fight, but how Canadian that they are for the away fighter :vd:
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
If you look at the output and control of the rounds you can see DeGale was in control. Don't get me wrong I actually picked Bute to win but he gave away the close ones. The cut was ruled by a accidental headbutt so that shouldn't sway you to think Bute was doing more damage.
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
Btw DeGale's sister is smoking hot. :p
Re: James DeGale v Lucian Bute
The only success Bute had was when DeGale backed up to the ropes. In the centre of the ring DeGale got the better of every exchange (imo, of course). Every time Bute landed anything DeGale fired back with an equal/better combo.
Anyway, after that boring shit heavyweight lark this was an entertaining fight.
Right man won. I backed Bute at 9/1 to win on PTS and couldn't believe Jim Watt had it a draw. From a rounds perspective, I'd give Bute 4 at best.
