The fact is that it takes balanced, simple but smart training/nutrition, a lot of hard graft and above all consistency and time.
The average bloke doesn't have a lot of those qualities (relative to a professional athlete) or luxuries so you can't really use joe public as a reference point when talking about an elite athlete.
Doesn't mean that Joshua is clean, but gaining 20lbs on a massive frame in two years isn't a smoking gun for me, there are plenty of tells to look for, this isn't one of them.
Usually 24 you're only just hitting your physical peak.
Ill take your word for your muscle increase and fat percentage staying ambiguously "about" the same;D
BUT!!
The whole reason I started bringing this up is we arent talking a 100 meter sprinter, we are talking someone whos supposedly an endurance athlete. Someone who has to be able to fight for 12 x 3 minute rounds. It just doesnt make sense to me and clearly alot of other people who know a bit about boxing who are bringing it up now on other sites and interviews. You see what a fighter has first before you pack more weight on them. Make sure they are fine over the distance as they are. Doesnt make any sense to me. Maybe if hed lost and it was a strength issue but he was heavily muscled already, he wasnt a stick insect.
Maybe there is another issue in the background like the ability to take punishment that histeam are concerned about. There are rumours of him being knocked out in sparring by Price. He gpt a good going over by Wlad in sparring by all accounts. Been stopped a few times in the ams. Dropped by Whyte. There is a big question mark as there was with Price.
Coincidentally Johnny Nelson has just done an i terview where he says that Chisora gave Whyte a going over in sparring and Olubamiwo reckons he dropped Whyte with a body shot.
And predictably for some ill mention Fury. Apparently hes never been dropped in sparring and hes sparred some huge punchers. Its a funny old game!

Re: Anthony Joshuas weight increase
If you want to split hairs, I'm floating about 10 - 12 % same as I was when I was 5kg lighter.
To call boxing an endurance sport is erroneous, a endurance events are characterised by being consistent and low in their intensity and long duration, predominantly aerobic. Boxing, especially as you move up the weights is extremely anaerobic in nature.
Partly depending on style, you're not a marathon runner, you're a sprinter who needs to be able to sprint repeatedly and then make up the oxygen debt inbetween rounds.
I'd suggest researching sarcoplasmic hypertrophy versus myofibular hypertrophy to better understand why gaining 'muscle' can hurt some fighters, but not others.
Boxing has a way to go in terms of strength and conditioning, guys like Bruno trained more like bodybuilders, hence the phobia the sport still has.
Whether Joshua has put on 20lb usefully or not remains to be seen, but the fact remains 20lb on him is not suspicious alone.

Re: Anthony Joshuas weight increase
Not at all.
I was right. Even the commentators who are paid by Sky who are bankrolling Joshua that he looked stiff and was blowing and too muscle bound.
I cant account for Whytes lack of fitness and thats what allowed Joshua back in the fight. You cant deny how robotic he looked. Hughie Fury would piss all over Joshua hes just there to be hit. Whyte was more fucked than Joshua which susrprised me. He had the tools but seemingly not the prep. Joshua wasnt suddenly hitting any harder in the 7th, Whyte was taking them no problem earlier, just exhausted and he will kick himself now because he will know he could have been fitter and had he been putting it on Joshua Joshua wouldnt have been able to do anything about it.

Ah, I see , time to discredit Whyte, because that means Joshua is still shit.
Listen pal, a word of advice, try some nice double cream with that pie, it should be easier to swallow then.
After all, I don't know how you have so much problem with Humble Pie, you don't seem to have any problem swallowing Team Fury Jizz. ;D;D

You don't have to take my word for it. It's not like I'm talking from years of personal, vocational and academic experience Ross :)
Anyways, it's been fun guys I'll check back in a few months and see how much the inmates run the asylum ;)

Ermm check the round by round thread. Im not the only one who thinks hes stiff and another Bruno.
Im not discrediting Whyte. Whyte would have won had he not been so exhausted. Joshua has no real skills. Hes big strong and thats it. His stamina will be shit at world level and as you can see from this fight, he has no ability to move his head.
Put it this way, as washed up and poor as the revisionists think Wlad is now if he had Joshua on those jelly legs that would have been goodnight Joshua!

Re: Anthony Joshuas weight increase
There's actually not much point talking about his body weight and how much extra muscle is bad for him without having informant on his bone structure.
-
Whyte would have won if he wasn't so knackered? It's beyond a joke now.
I also have a declaration. Whyte would have won if he was much better and AJ didn't insist on punching him in the face a bunch of times. The prick!!
It's up there with Enzo Calzaghe craziness.

Re: Anthony Joshuas weight increase
You saw what I saw and so did Hearn.
Theres an IFL intrview from Hearn last night where even he compares Joshua to Price where Price looked so drained etc.
Theres a lot of work and careful maneuvering for Hearn to do with Joshua because although hes dangerous there are clearly dangers for him and everyone, the Sky commemtators including the guy interviewing Joshua post fight in the ring are now saying how stiff he looked.;) He has absolutely no head movement either!

Re: Anthony Joshuas weight increase
Joshua needs to fight more cruiser weights , Eastern European journeymen , and fighters in better condition like big John McDermott .
All in all he took shots which we wanted him to , needs to work on the defence.
Enjoyed the fight beca use it was competitive.

Oh Ross, you really do live in a dream world don't you? You can try to deflect your embarrassment by by saying I have imaginary friends and putting little smiley emojis, but here are some facts that are there in Black and White for everyone to see.
You were offered the bet and went
silent and said you never read the post. That is a FACT.
you were asked by Me and others if you had any money bets on the fight, and you did not respond. That is a FACT. Why is that Ross? Didn't have enough pocket money?
I can see you now, 35-40 years old, still living with your Mum and Dad, sat in your pokey little bedroom posting on here because it's the only fun you have.
Now run along, because Mummy just called you done for your Billy Bear sandwiches for lunch! 😂😂

When and if Hearn ever gets the bollocks to sign Joshua to fight a Fury ill be here waiting to bet you;)
Regardless of what I said previously the facts are that Joshua had just stumbled past a british level fighter. Whyte could go on to be more but the fact is he was a british level fighter and they were contesting the british title.
Hughie doesnt get the hype from Sky but beating Rudenko over 10 rounds not losing a round is at least as good win than Joshuas over Whyte. Rudenko should have got the decision over Browne. Then theres Arias. Yes hes been around the block but after Hughie won every rou d over 10 rounds comfortably Pulev struggled with him over 8.
Hughie is class and you will be shown up like you all were with Tyson over Klitschko.

Re: Anthony Joshuas weight increase
Dillian Whyte v Hughie Fury would be a good fight for both of them. They both make good money and. The winner goes onto the next level.

They may or may not be interested. Whyte is a friend of theres and used sometimes for sparring.
Apparently Hughie has a good name lined up for February, although I wouldnt bet my house on it with the pullouts they face.

Well he could've had a good name lined up for January, but he was more interested in his Turkey and Christmas Pud! I'm still pissed off about that.

I think the fact that Joshua has past this test has really offended some peoples intelligence (questionable or not)
How dare he get chinned and not lose. How dare he get taken into the second half of the fight and not blow up. It's bordering on pathetic.
Fact is. He won six of seven rounds and finished the fight in brutal fashion. He hurt Whyte consistently throughout the fight and the only sniff Whyte got is when Joshua played his game. When he boxed he didn't stand a chance. Joshua was fitter than Whyte, stronger, hit harder and wanted it more. He was better in every single way.
And now the loons out there are finding ways for Joshua to lose. He wouldn't beat Fury, he wouldn't beat Wilder, this guy, that guy. Ridiculous. You would have thought it would be easier to just say well done. Lets see what you can do next time.
-
Based on what I saw I don't think he would beat Fury "yet" but as I said in another thread I like the way AJ is talking and he knows he still has things he needs to improve on before that fight happens.

Explain how Joshua stumbled past Whyte? He won 6 out of 7 rounds and nearly took his head off with the final punch of the fight.
Is it that he got hurt? With that in mind did Fury stumble past that Latvian cabbie who chinned him and had him rocking and rolling? Did he stumble past Cunningham who chinned him? Did he stumble past McD....... forget that, he definitely stumbled past fat John.

Re: Anthony Joshuas weight increase
Look, @ross, your rubbish doesn't bother me in the slightest. I said before the fight you'll give AJ zero credit and write Whyte off as a shit cunt. You do the same every time. You only see the positive in your heroes and the negative in the guys you hate. It's childish to me.
Once again, I bet with REAL money. However, If Hughie ever gets to fight AJ i'll gladly give you a kill yourself bet. Trust me.
If you ever dream you can show me up at anything you better wake up and apologise. Fact.
