Clev has done it, champion retired, bet the pace was too much for him. Great victory.
-
Re: Juergen Braehmer v Nathan Cleverly - WBA Light Heavyweight Title - Saturday 1 Oct
No idea why Braehmer pulled out there, but did have it fairly even through the first six rounds. If it is a broken hand, then you might want to look to all the other boxers who have been able to work through that kind of handicap. Anyway, great to see Clev picking up another world title, and hope we will get to see the rematch on home turf!

Re: Juergen Braehmer v Nathan Cleverly - WBA Light Heavyweight Title - Saturday 1 Oct
I love Clev, but his opponent dislocated his Elbow, you can't say "I Systematically broke him down!" 😂
-
I don't think the German liked the pace , Nathan is younger and set a fast pace was he injured not so sure did not fancy fighting at the pace.
Well done Cleverly rematch in Wales I hope .

Re: Juergen Braehmer v Nathan Cleverly - WBA Light Heavyweight Title - Saturday 1 Oct
Don't get me wrong, in a rematch , preferably in Wales , I see Clev beating him. But I reckon Brahemer must've had a genuine injury. He wasn't that uncomfortable that he would give up his title that easily because he didn't fancy it.especially at home.

They've got to have the rematch over here. Maybe on a joint bill with Lee Selby? Either way, come on down south and I'll grab you a beer! ;)

makes a change from people trying to kill each other, I think they make a cute couple

Re: Juergen Braehmer v Nathan Cleverly - WBA Light Heavyweight Title - Saturday 1 Oct
The rematch will be in Germany although I wouldn't bet on Braehmer forcing it. Looked more like an old mans quit job because of the pace rather that a busted elbow.
Cracking fight whilst it lasted, thought Braehmer was landing the classier harder clumps but Cleverly was relentless.

That's way I seen it as well in the 6 th round Braehmer looked tired.
The pace was high bit to much for a 37 year old.
Cleverly is throwing a lot of arm punches it was a good tactics for this fight.

Re: Juergen Braehmer v Nathan Cleverly - WBA Light Heavyweight Title - Saturday 1 Oct
Clev takes too many punches and that would not work against someone who can punch. Last time he got a busted nose and lost the fight. This time Clev was lucky that Braehmer is not a big puncher.

Re: Juergen Braehmer v Nathan Cleverly - WBA Light Heavyweight Title - Saturday 1 Oct
I like Clev but theres a lot of guys in that class who are a lot better than him. Apart from the big 3, Alvarez, Gvodyzk and Beterbiev all destroy him. He needs to try get some paydays fighting in germany, Braehmer rematch, maybe Stieglitz

He is a good boxer but he goes toe to toe which is daft he is hard to outbox he seems to have changed his style.
You are right you can't use these tactics against big punchers, Beterbiev is a monster if I am correct I think he stopped Kov twice in the armatures best keep away.
Cleverly is entertaining he must use his boxing ability more.

I enjoyed it, I thought clev was beginning to take over
he didn't throw any power shots tho did he, I don't remember one
-
Well done Clev, always liked the fella he is even more Wapanese than me with the double W. He did the job in front of him but what really stood out for me was the super lightweight Ohara Davies, looks like a great prospect who may well be fasttracked.
-
Re: Juergen Braehmer v Nathan Cleverly - WBA Light Heavyweight Title - Saturday 1 Oct
Yeah Davies looks a good prospect. He's clearly a massive fan of Floyd stylewise (not sure whether that's the best thing), with a serious clump. His greatest asset has to be those abnormal never-ending arms (or is that just me seeing things?).

I think he does have a long reach and the fact that he can spring out of a low stance and take a half step to get in range and catch his opponent, just exaggerates that, and makes his arms seem even longer.

Re: Juergen Braehmer v Nathan Cleverly - WBA Light Heavyweight Title - Saturday 1 Oct
I have always quite liked Nathan Cleverley. Good athlete, brave as they come, always fit to fight, never any scandal and he comes across quite well when he is not hyping a fight. Good Welsh boy too;D
He has never had much kudos from the press or much coverage considering he is a double world champion. I wonder why ..... Oh yes, it took about a decade until they noticed Joe Calzaghe too.
However, he has always been easy to hit, and Braemer was landing some big shots on him. He has a decent chin but it's not good to be taking as much as he does in every fight.
Maybe it was part of his tactics somehow, but he seemed to have lost quite a bit of power over his last couple of fights?

So to be fair, the people who said that Braehmer was beginning to not fancy it are probably right. "A minor muscle tear"
-
Cleverly did at the beginning of his career use his boxing skills and punch power.
Now he seems to be throwing arm punches in volume, ! stupid as he makes his fights harder than they need to be he is trying to be a crowd pleaser.
Nathan go back to your old style outbox theses guys , and land them hard punches.

I hate to say it, but although Cleverly started as a professional fairly early (18-20 I think), he certainly wasn't a powerful fighter. I think that the guys he was fighting may have suited him, and they were usually worn down rather than knocked out on sheer power. I don't think Clev was ever a big hitter, although the way he was matched did see his KO % improve once he went to 12 rounders. Now that he's fighting better opponents, that lack of power he showed against tough journeymen is still there against the top fighters.

I didn't think so to start off with , but I reckon by Halfway , Braehmer will have had enough and pull out with a bogus injury.

probly a sore arm or something

Re: Juergen Braehmer v Nathan Cleverly - WBA Light Heavyweight Title - Saturday 1 Oct
Bogus injury was the twat that fought Parker and pretended he was hurt with a body shot, which was illegal but no way did it cause that much damage.
