I dislike both fighters and if we can get a double knockout that would be good.

I feel the same. What is better for boxing? I think Canelo winning (dominant would be perfect) is better for the sport. The GGG fight still remains a distant possibility then.

Does it? It may mean that he will fight at another weight below or above to avoid GGG. Canelo could try and fight Saunders but he really is embarrassing himself.
As soon as GGG shows any sign of slowing down or weakness then the Ginger one will come running to make the fight.

I mean that if Chavez wins then a GGG/ Canelo fight is several diminished. Alvarez will probably try to milk a rematch/ trilogy with Chavez to wait out Golovkin a little longer. Add Saunders, the Lemieux/ Stevens winner maybe Eubank and GGG could end up waiting another year or more.

Re: Canelo vs Chavez Jr Official for May 6th
On the other hand, let's talk about what it means if the expected happens, which is a (shudder)... Canelo victory.
Let's be real here. What POSSIBLE excuse could Golden Boy and Canelo have now for avoiding a showdown with GGG?? I mean, these guys used every excuse in the book, from letting the fight (cough)... "marinate", to laughingly saying that Canelo was too small for 160 (obviously I must've missed some math classes in school, 'cause I always thought that
164.5 > 160
Of course, Canelo and his people will be praying that GGG loses to Jacobs, 'cause they'll be off the hook. Wait.... unless Jacobs then calls out Canelo, in which case GDP will have to come up with a whole new set of excuses. ;)

i would guess if they are not going to fight golovkin within a couple of fights after this one( i suspect they will take on bjs before golovkin) then alvarez will be taking on the mexican champ at super middleweight and sell it as another mexican grudge match then keep jumping around random/ made up weightclasses

Re: Canelo vs Chavez Jr Official for May 6th
The thing is if people hate Canelo so much they could just boycott him and refuse to pay for his fights. A PPV is something like 5 hours wages for some people, so if you don't like him just don't pay him. If a GGG fight happens it is probably worth an hours wages, so you might consider it, but otherwise screw him. I hope Chavez Jnr knocks him out and I will watch it on You Tube later. If I ever meet Chavez Jnr I will buy him a doughnut.

Re: Canelo vs Chavez Jr Official for May 6th
Lemieux has been add to the undercard in a show case bout.
Also JoJo Diaz vs Manuel Avila is on the card. I think this is a great matchup. I used to be really high on Avila until his last fight where I thought he was very lucky to escape with the win.

So you could be right when you said that Lemieux was being lined for canelo next.
-
Surprisingly, the undercard is solid. It would be a very good free fight card. The main event is nowhere near PPV worthy though.
-
Re: Canelo vs Chavez Jr Official for May 6th
This SHOULD be a throwback blood and guts fight....POR EL CORAZON DE MEEEEEEEEEEXICOOOOOOO!!!!!!
I thoroughly dislike both JC Jr. & Canelo. That said JC Jr has 0 reason to lose this fight and THAT will be why he loses. He's a ne'erdowell who has made money riding Papa JC's coattails and he'll put in a shitty performance because he'll expect a win to be handed to him. Canelo for all I dislike him, he at least has worked for his money, he believes he's worth more than anyone else does but whatever he's a boxer with a big ego, no shortage of those.
Canelo wins a decision and then there's whispers of a fight vs Pacquiao which will never fucking happen and let's see maybe he fights Garcia or Thurman, he won't fight either Charlo brother or Lara, he will want a big money fight but apparently not vs GGG and there are pretty much none of those around.

It may be a way of Golden Boy trying to force GGG's hand a little. If Golovkin takes the Saunders fight they can use Lemieux on the undercard to promote a fight with Canelo as I'm sure Lemiuex scores another highlight KO here.

Re: Canelo vs Chavez Jr Official for May 6th
I would not be putting Alvarez in with Lemieux. He's not exactly hard to hit and he wouldn't be a weight class bigger than Lemieux like he normally is. Lemieux would probably be bigger. If you're going to lose then lose in a PPV against Golovkin, not against somebody Golovkin already beat. And if he does lose to Lemieux it'd be on the end of an unpleasant sparking, not an easy thing to come back from.
Does anybody think Alvarez would beat Lemieux easily?

No, but it will be interesting comparing how he does against Lemieux than how GGG did.
-
Re: Canelo vs Chavez Jr Official for May 6th
I don't think anyone thinks Alvarez would beat Lemieux easily. But he would be heavily favored as compared to a GGG clash. Also it would be an in house Golden Boy promotion so they win either way.
-
Re: Canelo vs Chavez Jr Official for May 6th
I think Canelo could probably find lemieux all day in the wind up and counters him inside with stubby hooks while Lemieux his bringing those wide punches that start back in Canada. Hilarious would be if it was for the IBF title and the day of weigh in is an absolute ghost town because Canelo and Lemieux are sharing burgers and fries at dennys or something.

I think that he will have a speed advantage over most of the guys at the 160 division all good fights. As for him fighting Chavez I imagine GGG vs Jacobs will have a rematch so it would be fun fight to watch regardless.

There is no testing for this fight right?

They both cheat in their own separate ways so it might as well be no rules, best man wins.

Yeah but I thought it was for some WBC commemorative something or rather. Aren't all WBC sanctioned fights supposed to have VADA testing?

I think Sulliman put a clause that any fight that involves a Mexican can do whatever they like. It is in the small print. How these two fighters have been making weight for fights must be through foul means.

it seems there is testing but chavez jr doesnt like it.

well at least none from chavez jr , according to chavez jr. Vada claim differently. https://twitter.com/Vada_Testing/sta...7Ctwgr%5Etweet
Vada seems to be well respected but their main customers appear to be boxing and mma so maybe they are open to corruption.. who knows :S

Someone's not telling the truth. I'd believe VADA at this point.

Well it could be that at the time of Chavez jrs claim they hadnt taken blood from him and they have since then, I don't know :S. I would tend to believe VADA too, this is their job so if they bugger up their reputation then not much work will come their way. Of course nothing is impossible though.

Saul Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (May 6, 2017)

Re: Saul Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (May 6, 2017)
Great looking card this
I am looking forward to the main event but have massive doubts that they can both honour the catchweight limit of 164.5 lbs, there are allegedly "severe sanctions" if Chavez fails to do so however Chavez claimed recently that he is close to weight and believes he can boil down to around 160 lbs.
I'll believe that when i see it!!!
The catchweight contest will take place at an agreed weight of 164.5 pounds, with severe sanctions in place should Chavez come in heavy. It is pushing five years since Jr fought below the Super-Middleweight limit and is also an increase of over 10lbs that Canelo hit the scales ahead of his last outing, against Britain’s very own Liam Smith.
Whilst the weight will be a strong talking point prior to the contest, there’s national pride at stake. Talks have been ongoing for what seems years but now that the ink has dried on contracts, it is fitting the contest will take place on the coveted Cinco De Mayo weekend at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Canelo is arguably the biggest name in boxing at present and added the WBO World Super-Welterweight Title to his ever growing belt collection back in September.
Fans will be upbeat a future fight with Gennady Golovkin, that has been long in the offering, can now be made should he advance against Chavez after various hurdles were overcome in the negotiations.
Son of the legendary three-weight World Champion Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, Jr will know this fight is his opportunity to get back into the big time.
After winning and subsequently defending the WBC World Middleweight Title over a year long period, Chavez then was dethroned by Sergio Martinez back in September 2012. Despite giving Martinez hell for the last round, it was still a unanimous decision victory for Martinez which proved to be Jr’s fight taste of defeat.
After spending a year out of the ring, Chavez pilled on the pounds and outpointed Bryan Vera in both their fights to set up a contest with Andrzej Fonfara.
Chavez was sent crashing to the canvas for the first time in his career in the ninth round and then failed to come out of his corner for the start of the tenth handing Fonfara a TKO victory.
Two points victories have followed, most recently with Dominik Britsch in December which marked a landmark 50th professional victory for the now 30-year-old.
Speaking after the announcement of the fight, Canelo revealed: “I will be prepared, like I’ve been throughout my career, to give a great fight. I want to remind you that when two Mexicans fighters face off, a spectacular show is guaranteed. And I can assure you that May 6 will be no exception, especially during the Cinco de Mayo festivities.”
Patriotic Chavez added: “I dedicate this fight to Mexico. I’m going to win, but my country will too because this is the fight boxing needs.”

Re: Canelo vs Chavez Jr Official for May 6th
The hype and build up I saw was more about Chavez Snr and Oscar dating back to the 90's.
I liked when Junior said at least I have not avoided anyone.
I bet you canelo will be the favourite in this fight.
-
Re: Canelo vs Chavez Jr Official for May 6th
Although In Spanish, I watched the HBO face off earlier, I thought it was good, Jr properly gave ginger the hump when accusing him of being a cherry picker and took it on the chin when Canelo called him a Mexican laughing stock.
If Jr is comfortable at this weight this will be a good fight.
-
Re: Canelo vs Chavez Jr Official for May 6th
I'm thinking it'll be a good fight. As we have already seen this year where many of the underdogs were basically given no chance but ended up extremely competitive and producing nice fights.
-
Re: Canelo vs Chavez Jr Official for May 6th
I dislike both fighters, but it should definitely be a good fight. It is the only time I have ever rooted for Chavez and probably the last. It would be hilarious to see Canelo get beat.

Same here. Canelo is horrible and deserves to lose. It's frustrating that we will likely have to watch him for another decade. Hopefully a few losses will set that right.

I've got no problem seeing him for another decade providing that he fights at his correct weight and cuts all the bullshit that we have to endure from him and his pimp

I hope Canelo chooses to stay at 160 after this fight and faces the top guys. If we get GGG in September he will be on the right track.

I think it will be the Limiuex next based on the undercard.

That's still a good fight tho. Fans will sh-t on Canelo if it is Lemieux next because they want to see him face GGG. Golovkin is the top guy in the division so that's who Alvarez should be targeting. If he fights a Cotto or Chavez (depending on the fight/ result) rematch I'm not sure he'll survive the hate.

Canelo and Oscar have lived with the hate this long I am sure the millions they will get in their bank account will help them survive further vilification.
