When you say fell through, it probably means Linares does not want it. Truthfully I can not blame him as it will send him into retirement. Whilst this way he makes money and still keeps the possibility alive.

I don't think Linares is the type of fighter to avoid anyone. Golden Boy trying to lock fighters into multi fight contracts was the issue.

And shopping Garcia for Cotto which on it's own blows my mind. It's like GB has lost grasp on reality as to which way those two fighters are going. Would respect Linares-Flanagan if it shapes up and like to see it Stateside.

I think it would be over here.

Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
Yea I'm not sure Flanagan would be willing to travel and Linares has built a nice following in the UK.
-
Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
The Flanagan Linares fight isn't happening. Flanagan is moving up to 140 and will undoubtedly fight some WBO top ten bod for Crawford's vacant title in a Copperbox Arena spectacular.
-
Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
Yea heard this from the WBO. Did Flanagan drop his nuts and run towards an easy vacant title? He said the Linares fight was all but done.
-
Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
So Flanagan told Garcia no because he was going to fight Linares, but told Linares no too?
-
Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
Apparently so. He now #1 at 140 to Crawford's soon to be vacated title. The rest of the WBO's top 5 should include Hooker, Orozco, Catterall and Zepeda.
Hopefully Zepeda can get a rematch with Flanagan sometime now at 140.
-
Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
Oh yea and funnily enough he waited until Crawford was moving up.
-
Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
I can’t stand these fighters who just duck every good fighter around them. I mean seriously, going after the vacant title at 140? Ridiculous.
Not that it will happen since Garcia already turned down the offer to sign the 4 fight deal with GBP, but this would be a great time for Garcia to jump in and fight Linares.
-
Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
At least Beltran should get a shot at the vacant strap. Will the WBC still mandate the Garcia/ Linares fight? Hoping Easter steps up to the plate and unifies with Garcia. Mikey looking to return in January at this stage.
-
Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
Trying to scramble into Crawfords now vacant apartment ;D. Orozco gives every intention he also intends to move to 147 as he blew the weight and forced hbo to cancel it's co main. If Hooker gets shot I like Flanagan to beat the breaks off of him.
But again how absurd to be ranked #1 in a division never ventured. Why even have rankings at all.

The WBO seems to always do this if a champion moves up. I'd rather see 2 eliminators between the top 4 rated guys with the winners fighting for the vacant title. That would be too sensible tho.
-
Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
Looking at the rankings i'd bet my bollocks Jack Catterall (another Frank Warren fighter) will be Flanagan's opponent for the vacant title.
Flanagan is the least known British "world" champ in history. I guarantee 75% of the Brits on here wouldn't have a clue what he looks like.

Hooker's probably the easier fight.

Agree that, just a basic adherence to bodies own "voting" system. Of course they are the clown car of sanctioning bodies so may be names alone for them just to stay up. Devils advocate and speaking the alphabet boyz money language..can't they just slap a 'interim champion' etc on eliminators and let the ranks settle it, they'll still collect those fees they love. Networks- promoter have much to do with it and premier dates are rare. Imagine a major name title fight off air? Wilder v Stiverne is coming pretty close. Maybe Michael Moorer summed the WBO best when he relinquished the hvy trinket.."It's retarding my career" :-X.

Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
I don’t think WBO should be considered a major belt. Watching a guy get stripped every month only for a TR fighter to get it in a vacancy fight for decades,,,,it’s not a world title, it’s a Top Rank title.

Frank Warren had them in his pocket and remember Emanuel Steward at the kronk gym own the belt too with his fighters for a time.

Yup, it's one thing to have some politics. But the WBO is all politics. You can look around at who promotes whom and know what will happen. That's not legitimate

Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
Flannagan will join Ricky Burns / Duke McKenzie as undeserving multiple weight belt holders.
None of the above where the best of the best in any division they fought in.
Belt holders not world champions.

Unfortunately that seems the norm for the longest time bud. It's a rotation system at times. Now should Flanagan top a Linares impressively that is beating the real deal though. Forget the trinkets..who'd ya beat.

Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
Burns is up there with Bellew as the ultimate over-achievers.

To be fair to Burns he went the distance with the wonderful Terrance Crawford , that is a better achievement than anything Bellew or McKenzie achieved.

Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
It seems Golden Boy is willing to forgo the multi fight stipulations in the Linares/ Garcia negotiations. At child be getting closer to a deal.

Are they ready to cash him out? There is no way they believe Linares wins this.

Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
So Mikey gets the 1 fight only deal and an even split and still turns the fight down this morning ???. Says he has another offer, oh do tell us champ?

Haymon must be paying him a huge sum to face Easter. I'd still be happy with that fight and it leaves the door open for Linares after that. Mikey becoming a bit of a diva tho. Sad cause he's one of my favorites.

So Easter for sure then and straight unification? All for champs fighting champs and Easter easier made 'in house' and can fight a bit. Just would love long time top flight guy like Linares to get the opportunity and agree, his heads getting a little big for me.

Feel for Linares, with Flanagan moving up there's no unification for him at this stage. Do you think they could put together a Campbell rematch while waiting on Garcia?

If I'm honest it just feels like a step sideways going into immediate rematch. Campbell did himself proud, good fight but like to see him continue growing then come back. Then again with familiarity and Campbell fan base that very well can come off. I just really wonder if GBP would make same concessions after being burned a bit as well as Garcia people sitting down again. Also is Garcia really dedicated to staying 135 for 2,3 fights? I see Beltran has a date set for Flanagans vacant trinket. He and Linares would be fun.

Yea I was just thinking that there's not a lot out there for Linares next. Beltran will be fighting for a vacant title so won't be ready until mid year. I think Linares makes good money in the UK and has built a nice following and run over there. The Campbell fight could make the most sense.

Yeh it's there to be done again, just rough that a fighter of his caliber apparently has so few options. I think he could go out and spark Campbell midway and still he'd get flack for it and he was more than willing to climb in with a newly anointed Garcia and assumed greatness.

Weak move by Garcia. I can understand him wanting the lions share but still don’t like it.
Are we sure about Garcia/Easter?

It's not confirmed who the opponent is but Mikey has said previously that he had a huge offer to fight Easter Jr.

Linares is left out in the cold by no fault of his own. If Mikey is unifying for more money then I can't really blame him and the Linares fight still has potential.
-
Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
I can’t fault Garcia if he is getting a bigger share against Easter because it’s still a solid match. Also, he will still get the Linares fight next. I will wait and see though before I pass judgement.

Re: Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares.
WBC orders Jorge Linares to face Mikey Garcia and Badou Jack to fight Adonis Stevenson
WBC world lightweight champion Mikey Garcia has been ordered to face Jorge Linares in a potential unification bout after both men compete in early 2018.
Garcia, 30, holds the WBC title at lightweight but is challenging for the IBF world title at light-welterweight against Sergey Lipinets on 10 February.
WBA lightweight champion Linares fights on 27 January against Mercito Gesta.
"Both champions will fight each other immediately after their bouts," said WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman.
The sanctioning body's move means American Garcia - unbeaten in 37 fights - would have to decide whether to return to lightweight should he claim Lipinets' IBF strap at 140 lbs.
Linares, 32, claimed a second win over Anthony Crolla in 2017 and also beat Great Britain's Luke Campbell later in the year.
On Wednesday Sulaiman published decisions taken at the WBC's convention in Baku, Azerbaijan, including outlining the mandated title fights for each division.
WBC light-heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson, 40, has been ordered to face Sweden's Badou Jack.
Stevenson has held his title since 2013 but Jack looks set to be his next challenger having given up his WBA title in the division after taking it from Wales' Nathan Cleverly on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather's win over Conor McGregor in August.
