British fighters like AJ and Price were decorated amateurs before turning pro. Guys like Chisora and Fury made their name by steadily having success as they moved up in class - area, continental, commonwealth, British, European - before proving themselves at world level. Whyte was a nobody but hit the jackpot by beating AJ in the amateurs, then put his money where his mouth is and made a name for himself.
On this forum only ross thinks Hughie Fury is the second coming.
Wow. Respect your opinion but I'm amazed you can write that with such complete lack of self awareness. You just wrote out exactly the qualifying that someone(El Kabong? Primo?) said Brits would do but it seems like you think you're doing the opposite. Just WOW
So Price is good? Chisora? Whyte? My god man. They aren't and you suggesting they earned their status is exactly what was said.If Washington was a Brit.... Clearly you would form some crazy qualification to suggest he was good. You proved it in your post.

Nope... you didn't understand my post. I never made a judgement about whether or not the fighters I named were good or bad. That is purely subjective. But as you've brought the subject up - you don't believe Price, Chisora or Whyte are good? Compared with whom? I would say any professional that has a modicum of success is good, many a journeyman are good. Now comparing them with all-time greats (which you must be doing) they're not "good."
My post was specifically about hype, following and reputation. I explained that Washington - far from being "the next best thing" - was just as likely to fall into the first category of fighters I listed as the third group (Fury, Chisora, Whyte). As he's not a decorated Olympic medalist he wouldn't have had the hype AJ and Price got (they were widely known amateurs).
Hope I made it clear this time.

Dunno if you're talking tongue in cheek, but I beg to differ. We see it all the time. Perhaps what I should do is point out every single case as it happens.

Plenty of old fogeys on here are cursed by lazy thinking too mate.

Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
So Izu just got stopped in 5 after winning the first few rounds. Big right from Breazeale put him down. Breazeale charges in and Izu goes down again and through the ropes. Ref waives it.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
That was a fun filled fight.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Hurd already started to get hit a bit by Harrison after 2 rounds.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Evening guys, hope you are all doing well. Looking forward to this bout, although I think it should be easy for Wilder. Nonetheless, nothing to do but beer it up if there is a fight tonight!
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Just realized they split the card airing on different networks. Walked into Hurd v Harrison just now only on Fox Dep. They are actually having Caleb Plant co main???
Nice little mixes by Harrison
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Hurd caught Harrison with a uppercut that hurt at the end of the round.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Hurd bit lethargic and banking on a big shot. Not fond of Harriosn hunt and peck but really tagging Hurd last round and getting away.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Harrison looking really good. Hurd is very inexperienced. Just following.

Totally. He just looks 'heavy' and one dimensional.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Entertaining 7th. I thought Harrison was tiring early. Then Hurd seemed to get hurt to the body and it was all Harrison. Hurd landed a solid right and then Harrision looked hurt until the last 30 seconds until he came alive. Hurd landed a few at rounds end.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Harrison waving him in ;D. Brave man standing under a heavy roof! That uppercut by Hurd.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Hurd coming on strong that round. Harrison still waving him in but looks unsteady.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Boom goes the dynamite :angryxo4: Well Hurd found that bomb, Harrison still out standing there in disbelief! Great right hand shot.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Big right puts Harrision down. He makes it up... huh

Was sorry to have missed this! Sounds like another war for Breazeale. This card is on 3 channels here ???
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
bollocks... every time i bet on breazale losing he ends up winning :S.. Just goes to show even these big slow looking guys carry a lot of power, well done to him !

Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Wilder chin is way up in the air. Very vulnerable should he get hit.

Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
They are airing Motocross on the main station..running long :vd: This is where PBC screws it up
Thank god for the Spanish version. Wilder not a defensive genius is he. Just picked up in 3rd and Washington making an effort with long punches.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Both tentative start of 5th. Lots of second thinking jabs, Washington more full of fire than I thought. Annd Wilder just sent him down midway, huge follow up and fight is stopped 5th round.
you have to feel for a guy who calls himself the heavyweight champ and he's lucky to get on a 3rd tier network while the Butes and Jones Jr are riding ppvs. The entire airing of this one was a shit show as far as schedule listings.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Live FS1 kicking off now with Tugstsogt Nyambayar vs Jhon Gemino. This is so fuckin ass backwards. To not feature main events on MAIN station at advertised time ??? Alright I'm done whining ;D
Caleb Plant has some style. Up after this.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Nyambayar really turns the right over nicely showing some composure in 1st. Gemino packed his lunch though with nice short shots.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Wow. Nyambayar just countered him with clean right elbow near end of 2nd? That was subtle. Have 1-1
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
King Tug with he big right hand knock down. He turned everything into it. Gemino is all fire, he's lucky he didn't tweek his leg on that KD. 2-1
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Nyambayar is fun stuff. Mixes his levels very well. Putting it on Gemino late 4th.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Tremendous combinations by King Tug. Nyambayar punches with calculated malice dropping Gemino twice in 6th and controlling him in corner and ring center.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Gemino gets in some nice counters to body late 7th and ripping hooks early 8th. Few and far between but he looks steadier now for last hurrah. Nyambayar has a sapping type of work rate. That long right is a name taker
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Elbows. Nyambayar knows how to use them. In full control in 10th looking for finish. Gemino down again and in full cover up..ref stops in end 10th.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Awimbono and Caleb Plant at the bell. This referee is full country. Y'all suck.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Caleb Plant in control. Gets early KD and is workmanlike into 6th. He's left the door open a bit and Awimbono digging to his belly. Awimbono waves him in end round and they exchange. Plant needs to take the next step
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
If nothing else, Deontay sure can punch. That much we know. Now lets see him in against AJ after AJ decapitates Clinch-ko.
-
Re: Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington Feb. 25
Wilder is TERRIBLE. He has some of the worst technique I've ever seen.

Wild by name, wild by nature.
Those windmill punches should be thrown by people who have never boxed not by a current world class fighter.
