Plumb left hook from Lemieux.
Taking him out on a stretcher but he is alert and seems fine.
He absolutely squared up and bet the farm on that hook! Vicious one & done shot, all precautions taken with Stevens on a stretcher and he signs to crowd. Great sign.
Hope Stevens starts to look at big picture career wise
What belt is lemieux sporting? It's gotta be old?
Who has KO of the year so far? Lemieux or Garcia?
He didn't even seem to get maximum leverage into that punch so fuck me he must hit hard.
Stevens was totally switched off as soon as that landed
Lemieux v Billy Joe Saunders next..?
What a lovely choice for BJS.......... GGG or Lemieux ;D
This fight followed the script - two sparko merchants, short and sweet. I actually thought they'd be cagey, with a distance fight possible, but from the opening seconds Lemieux was in full chinner merchant mode. You've got no chance surviving against an aggressive sicko puncher if you can't make them miss. Even Lemieux's blasts to the arms and gloves look sickening.
I'd like to see Lemieux vs Eubank Jr. Love to see how eager the young fella is to get inside looking for a tear-up topped off with an over elaborate highlight reel uppercut after feeling a couple of atomic blasts. We'll soon see if all the "he's got his dads chin" merchants are correct or not (personally think Jr will come unstuck in tear-up mode against world-class bangers).
((Well done @Beanz for posting those fight times, I woke up at ten to five and immediately remembered reading your post, otherwise i'd have been pottering around, making a cup of tea oblivious to the fact I could catch the fight live))
Because of styles and all that I think Billy Joe has a great chance of boxing Lemieux's bonce off. I even think he could bust him up and force a late-ish stoppage. Billy Joe will make him miss, he'll be cutely slipping and sliding - not blocking - which will make Lemiuex look like a neanderthal trying to get on the inside, and he showed against Lee, if he times you right you'll know about it.
However, obviously you can make a great case for Lemiuex walking straight through him. He has the power, experience, bollocks.
Great matchup.
well that was pretty fucking brutal wasn't it.
Stevens was out cold, if Garcia is currently holding KO of the year then this is a serious close second.
Lemieux v BJS would be a cracking match up on styles, I'd like to see BJS 'box his bonce off'' as Fenster said, I have always like him but since he has won his belt there is a hell of a lot of questions about his desire, hopefully Booth can get his mind back in the game and this fight could be made.
If BJS fights anything like he did in his last fight Lemieux will put him to sleep.
Just shows you how good Triple G is to take both these guys punches and win
Lemieux reminds me of Nigel Benn , every punch he throws has goodnight written all over it.
Gonna catch the re run Boxnation at 10am as not seen it yet
I give more credit to Lemieux's KO since it was essentially a one punch KO, while Garcia hit Zladifhjfivujdndic in the back of the head before the knock out blow landed.
Once again I failed to make it to the big fight, but the highlights looked exactly as it was billed in terms of a meeting of big hitters. All these missed late night fights are just allowing me to learn so I can succeed next week when it comes to GGG.
Well done ref and ring doctors leaving the guys gum shield in when he's flat on his back unconscious.
Would love to see Eubank Jnr back his mouth up and start calling Lemieux out ;)
Watching the repeat Gamboa is good but should be at a lower weight to be the star he should be.
Lemieux wins first round, very entertaining and fast vicious punches
Lemieux wins second with fast jabs, Stevens got a high guard
Stevens was winning the round until he got knocked out cold. Unbelievable left hook.
I can see Lemieux fighting Golovkin again if he gets another highlight reel KO or two.
I don't think Eubank will want any part of him. I think he's going to keep defending that IBO belt against IBO top ten material.
I don't think Gamboa is going to be back on primetime again. If they were looking for an impressive performance to sell a Lomachenko fight he didn't provide it.
And I believe Lemieux when he says he wants GGG again. Isn't it great when fighters want to challenge themselves? I'd like to see Canelo-Lemieux. Personally I think that's a more competitive fight than Canelo-GGG.
To be fair to Alvarado; the guy is tough as nails. He's never really been stopped before and has fought a number of contenders. Gamboa got in some rounds and shook of some rust. I think that was the idea of this fight. He didn't impress but it might give him added time to squeeze in another fight or 2 of this level before approaching the elite guys. I also feel he should be back at feather but don't think he can make that weight comfortably anymore unfortunately.
Canelo has to fight somebody decent assuming he beats Chavez but Lemieux is promoted by Oscar so I can't see Lemieux-Canelo being made somehow. I think Gamboa went the way of a lot of Cubans and lst all motivation once he made some money. He's signed some terrible promotional deals with a succession of rappers who are finding it tough to match the fighters they've signed. I'm not sure he'll get many more chances on primetime. Maybe if he's lucky enough that his promoters can match him with some decent off-TV opponents and he actually wins the fights impressively he'll get another HBO undercard slot but HBO aren't spending like they used to and their shows are few and far between now.
