Trump praised Comey for opening an investigation into Hillary in 2015, then criticized call him in July of 2016 for letting SHillary off the hook, praised Him in October, then criticized him again in November when he let Hillary off the hook again, Praised Him in December, then thanked him yesterday 3 times, and then criticized him and fired him.
Clinton/Dems Praised Him in July and then criticized him again in October, praised him again in November when he cleared Clinton the second time, then criticized him again when she lost the election but then praised him in January when it looked like there was an investigation into Trump.

In the weeks before President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, a federal investigation into potential collusion between Trump associates and the Russian government was heating up, as Mr. Comey became increasingly occupied with the probe.
Mr. Comey started receiving daily instead of weekly updates on the investigation, beginning at least three weeks ago, according to people with knowledge of the matter and the progress of the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe. Mr. Comey was concerned by information showing potential evidence of collusion, according to these people.
One area of particular interest for the [Senate] committee is Mr. Trump’s business dealings. The Senate Intelligence Committee has asked for information from the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, or FinCEN, a division of the Treasury Department.
The goal of the financial inquiry is to understand the nature of any financial ties Mr. Trump may have to foreign interests, including Russia, and to determine to what extent, if at all, Mr. Trump or his associates have investments that may be tied to the Russian government, people with knowledge of the inquiry said.
There currently are 11 congressional staff working on the Senate probe, a number that some lawmakers have said publicly isn’t enough to handle the voluminous intelligence reporting and leads that have been generated by the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency.

Another article in the WSJ quotes a senior FBI souce saying Trump's claim he'd been told three times he isn't being investigated is "completely farcical nonsense". Comey barred by law from even discussing the case with Trump.

Pretty funny, the new FBI director just rebunked Trump claims that there was no investigation him and even said that COmey 1) had full support from the other folks in the organisation (opposite to what Trump claimed) AND that there was a VERY significative investigation in course https://www.usnews.com/news/politics...ms-about-comey
