He's already been stripped of the Ring belt as of yesterday 😉

Their argument made perfect sense. they don't want to give it to the #1 v #3 when #2 is fighting and active. they want to wait till Joshua fights Wilder. there's enough organisations giving out bullshit trinkets, they want this to be more meaningful.

Price Povetkin confirmed
http://www.matchroomboxing.com/news/...a-parker-bill/
I know people will right him off and it's completely understandable. What are his alternatives though? It's shit or get off the pot time, he wins, he's hit the jackpot, he loses he retires. fucking about knocking over half a dozen stiff wont change anything.

Exactamundo, and all though there are no saints in boxing, after Povetkin being caught juicing twice and then mouthing off about expecting to meet the Joshua/Parker winner later this year, you kind of have to hope Price knocks him, not only out of the ring, but through the nearest wall.

Re: Joshua v Parker - deal very close
Bet Price bangs him out early..... just got a gut feeling Price is gonna win this.

Number 1 and 3 are undefeated champions so it is meaningful. If AJ was a yank or signed up with GBP I am sure this would have enjoyed been for the Ring belt.

The way I see it, the Ring want their "Belt" to be for the stand out best guy in the division. So they don't see no.1 v no.3 being good enough, because they feel no.2 has a squeak of beating no.1.
How would you feel if they classed no.1 as Wilder and no. 3 as Ortiz and decided that would be for the Ring belt? It's not inconceivable and would be as equally unfair.
-
Re: Joshua v Parker - deal very close
I think the only time The Ring has accepted #1 vs #3 for the championship was Wlad vs Chagaev. The old editor updated the championship policy, it will be interesting to see if Dougie revisits them and makes any changes.

Is this fight going to be on Showtime? I still haven't heard anything yet.

No, it wasn't announced in the recent schedule with all those fights either last week. Although most of those were PBC fighters.

Re: Joshua v Parker - deal very close
The Showtime deal is up after this fight, notice they didn't announce it's extended in that press release (which normally happens). Joshua must be going HBO after this, if not, the two firms must be in a serious bidding war.
If Ortiz chins Wilder there's gonna be a lot of sulking from the powers that be.

They're rated 2 and 5 so wouldn't make sense.
The 1 vs 3 can be for the Ring belt but in this scenario, where Wilder is clearly regarded as no.2, in his pomp, active and the most glamorous opponent for Joshua, it would have cheapened their status to award the title for the sake of it.

Yep, I think the only time 1 vs 3 has been for a Ring belt was Wlad/ Chagaev.

I think (traditionally) the Ring belt has been lineal. So, for example, when Mike Tyson had every other belt going, Micheal Spinks had the Ring 'belt' because he had beaten Holmes, who had beaten Ali, who had beaten Etc etc.
They have accepted lower ranked people before .... I think they set up the Marvin Hart v Jack Root fight for the World Heavyweight Title when James J Jeffries retired

The only fight I can think of that wasn't 1 vs 2, since they re-introduced their championship policy was Wlad/ Chagaev.

Yeah, but what I was saying to Master, was how would he feel IF they rated Wilder above Joshua and Ortiz above Parker. Would he still be clamouring for it to be for the Ring belt, or would he be moaning that AJ wasn't involved. Just proving that it works both ways and trying to be consistent.

Re: Joshua v Parker - 31/3/18
The Ring belt and lineal are different, you can trace lots of differences going way back, however, they really went astray after stopping their ratings system in the late 80s. When they restarted they ignored their own history which threw up nonsense like Roy Jones being "THE man" at lightheavy even though the true linage could be traced to Michalczewski (so Roy was Ring champion but not lineal).
Fans constantly confuse the two as they often are in alignment when new linages are created as the top two in a division are almost always the standout best.
As for no.1-vs-no.3 - the Wlad-Chagaev situation happened because of Vitali being rated no.2. However, Bute was Ring no.1/2 (?) when Ward-Froch fought for the title. Pretty sure there are several cases in recent years (can't think off the top of my head though).
-
Re: Joshua v Parker - 31/3/18
In pretty sure Ward and Froch were 1 and 2 when they fought. Could be wrong.
-
Re: Joshua v Parker - 31/3/18
You could be right too. I remember Bute had loads of fans that would argue his record was better than Froch's around that time, and he definitely was Ring no.1 at one point in front of both Ward and Froch.

I remember Bute being #1 as well, I think after Ward beat Kessler he took over at #1.
It's quite a tricky area, who determineds who are the #1 and #2? Most rankings differ greatly on the top 5 placings.

Re: Joshua v Parker - 31/3/18
I said some time ago that I take Ortiz to beat Wilder and Parker to beat Joshua. Ultimately Parker beats Ortiz. What is great about this is the reverse could happen in every fight. Frankly, I don't mind, I am just looking towards great action from 4 genuine contenders. Good luck to them all

Re: Joshua v Parker - 31/3/18
Master is going to say his normal rebuttal here but I am predicting that Parker will destroy Joshua. I have the sense that Joshua's Shining Moment was his defeat of the old lion which he barely got past as he almost got bashed into a cemetery in that six around. Joshua has already past his prime. Some Fighters get old fast. I do not think we will ever see the same Anthony Joshua Wladimir Klitschko. master I call an upset in the making here

Who have you ever seen Parker fight to base this on ? just curious.

You are wrong, watch AJ beat Parker and Wilder beat Ortiz. Followed by AJ knocking out Wilder to unify the titles.

Do not worry about his answer, now that he has said Parker win's, AJ is jumping for you knowing he has won the fight. :)

I was just curious. I thought Brock had one of his premonitions , a bit like the one where "GGG would get brutally KO'd by Canelo with a vicious uppercut reverberating through his body with such power that it would crack his 3rd or 4th Verterbrae!" :biglaugh::lolhaha:

It could be. I really wish Parker had gotten a new trainer a few fights back and changed promoters. I think he has gone backwards in his development. He takes a big game, but as soon as someone hits him or comes forward Parker goes straight back, into the ropes or corners. Hands down, chin up. I really hope he has been surfing on this issue or AJ will destroy him.

AJ will beat him with ease. I know you rate Parker but he is only relevant because he has a title. He barely beat Hughie and he is awful.

I don't rate Parker that highly but his opposition is better than some in the division. I thought Takam could have got the nod if not in NZ, and also thought Ruiz could have got the win. I hate the way Parker goes backwards. If he throws caution to the wind and comes out throwing bombs he may get lucky and land something significant. Otherwise I see AJ taking him out mid to late in the fight.

If Parker comes out swinging he gets knocked out quickly. Best thing he can do is get under the skin of AJ and carry on making the steroid accusations and hope AJ gets careless.

Re: Joshua v Parker - 31/3/18
I disagree, Parker has pretty quick hands, but he can charge forward clumsily at times, his head doesn't move much either. I think if he can come out behind the jab and put some punches together early he stands a better chance than trying to take AJ into deep waters. He needs to let his hands go tho, he needs to get off first and stand his ground, he can't be going backwards.

Watch Parker go backwards, getting pummeled and knocked out.
