I don’t think it’s a great idea for Linares to be going into this fight period. I know he’s extremely good and his losses were years back now. It struck struck me the things he always struggled with were gauging distance and transition from offence to defence. Most of the times he’s gotten clipped, never mind stopped, seemed to be pulling straight back from the waist, or after throwing one too many punches coming forward. Loma strikes me as a “make up a fighter to make that a disaster”. He style is basically perpetual motion and there is no transition.

Guess Mikey picked his lane today and it's 140. If Loma shines against Linares it'll be blinding and a great match missed. Starting to wonder about Mikey.
Linares will be forced to play aggressor and sacrifice timing and those sharp range punches.

There is a man named Jorge Capetillo that has done the bulk of the day to day gym work with Linares; Salas is the fight night trainer. I suspect that Linares is going to continue working with Capetillo in Las Vegas as he has been doing, and that Capetillo will work his corner for the fight

Still not an ideal time to change trainers. They have been on a good run together.
I think Linares is a little past his prime and even at his best it may have not ever of been enough to deal with Loma.

Ya, a little surprised at the decision but I honestly don’t mind if he sticks with 140. I still don’t think it’s out of the question for a mega fight at 135 with Loma, but as of right now he is picking 140. Good timing too because Crawford cleaned it out and now a whole new crop of 140lbers are there for the picking so he doesn’t have to just fight Crawford leftovers.
He is supposed to fight Baranchyk next who looked pretty good when he beat Petrov.

Yea Garcia can wait for the waters to clear with Loma/ Linares, then force the winner into a bout at 140.
Baranchyk is a beast but I see Mikey picking him off in another competitive bout. I don't see many easy fights for him at 140 if he fights the top guys.

What a professional fight is is defined.
No headgear, no shirt, getting paid. Loma didn't fight for a title in his 2nd pro fight. He had like 6 pro fights before his "pro" career began. He is one of the best, he was ready to fight championship level.

My point is so would have lots of other guys who ended up having to wait.

I get ya, not even arguing with you. Was just saying dude was getting paid, fighting without headgear or a shirt. By the people that defined what a professional fight is he was a professional fighter. Just talking, not disagreeing or agreeing.

You got a valid point, though. Sometimes the line between amateur and pro becomes blurred, and this is probably one of those instances. Regardless, you'll get no argument from me that Loma is in fact a special talent. Looking forward to his future fights.

I would like to see Linares win. Rudy Hernandez, brother and trainer of the late Genaro Hernandez, will be in the corner. A win over Loma will be big for him. When Rudy fought he won the Forum welterweight tournament, then took some time off and came back as a heavyweight.

I was referring more to Garcia, as he has already mentioned Spence, and called out Cotto at 154. Personally think the best weight for both (and fans) is 135.

I can't recall Linares towering over someone since his feather days. However, he didn't look so much thicker set than his opponents back then. That's not a good sign for Loma in the future, as amazing as he is, there's only so much weight any great fighter can give away before it becomes literally too much.
It will be a big shock to the system for Linares getting outskilled, I can see another brilliant fighter forced into an "injury" during this fight.
Not a lot of interest in this great matchup.
