Hagler miscalculated when he fought orthodox and gave away vital rounds. One judge was just bias, corrupt or mental.
The warrior who came out and in less than 3 rounds destroyed the lethal Tommy Hearns...... decides to pussyfoot around with Leonard, fighting righty and giving away rounds. Especially an old veteran who knew the ropes and how judges can turn in dodgy decisions. "Fishy" is kind of an understatement with me. Then he walks away from boxing, having never settled the score.
I think you are reading too much into it. Hagler knew he blew it and knew Leonard would make him beg for the rematch which he was not prepared to do.

That would have been a great one. Benn made me an instant Stateside fan there and thought he got a bad rap for 1st 'hitting him when down' which he actually didn't. The ref was moving in slow motion and totally unsure about stopping Iran on technical 3 kd rule. What a mini war!
