Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. docked $1M after badly missing weight
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. escaped one misstep to be cleared to fight Daniel Jacobs.
His second cost him a reported $1 million.
The fight will still go on. But after Chavez missed weight for the super middleweight bout by almost five pounds on Thursday, his wallet will be considerably lighter.
Closer to light heavyweight
Chavez, who has a history of missing weight, weighed in at 172.7 pounds when he stepped on the scale on Thursday.
The reading put him closer to the light heavyweight limit of 175 pounds than the 168-pound super middleweight standard.

Jacobs agreed to go on with the fight with one significant contract stipulation. According to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, Jacobs’ team demanded that Chavez surrender $1 million of his scheduled $3 million purse.
Jacobs had significant leverage after Chavez required a federal judge’s ruling on Tuesday to lift a Nevada State Athletic Commission suspension for refusing a random drug test in October.
When the chance arose that Chavez couldn’t fight, Jacobs’ team lined up a standby opponent in former middleweight challenger Gabriel Rosado.
Jacobs reportedly happy to take on the extra cash
When Chavez agreed to surrender a portion of his purse, Chavez agreed to fight at a catchweight of 173 pounds, according to The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger. Chavez, a Mexican fighter, is a big draw for the Phoenix fight.
Rosado will fight in the undercard.
"It doesn't bother us at all,” Jacobs’ manager Keith Connolly told ESPN of Chavez missing weight. “Danny's still gonna beat his ass.”
The fight is scheduled for Friday night at Phoenix’s Talking Stick Resort Arena and will be available on DAZN.

Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
I wonder what earthly possible toehold in boxing the 5-pound overweight Junior thinks he could achieve with a victory over Jacobs. Would he expect a title shot?

For as much as Canelo is coddled, Chavez has to be the most entitled fighter in the history of boxing. He was getting $3 million for this fight? He hasn’t fought in years and was never even good in the first place. He has been caught cheating more times than you can count and has missed weight on multiple occasions. There is no more unlikable boxer when it comes to the boxing game. There may be some worse human beings, but he is the worst in the overall boxing sense.

Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
This is priceless. Chavez basically couldn't have intended to make the weight at any point. A regular pro will often be 5 pounds over with weeks to go. Either he didnt train period, or this was always agreed upon. Guess it just shows Mexican American fighters have the most infaliable drawing power in the sport.

Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
it's a pity danny jacobs didn't have the balls manny rodriguez did, and refused to fight him

Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Pretty blah card so far. This Perez fella looks to be in pretty deep and undersized with Mo Hooker but just started. Cannot really figure Crawford who is asked about Porter..'meh not really looking at that, nothing on the table and want other things right now'. Asked about moving up to 154 'meh would if I wanted but right now I'm at 147'. About as disinterested as a guy could sound.
oh, there goes Perez. talk about a blow out. Quality stuff Dazn. Maybe Jacobs will send viewers a couple of bucks in the name of the Holiday spirit.

Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Here comes the circus. Chavez looks like a Mardi Gras float. Anyone have an idea exactly where this one is "live" wise? Dazn has restarted 3 times here and have to keep hitting the refresh which takes 2,3 minutes apparently. I'm at the anthems

Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
The Blue marshmallow Peep takes 1st. Odd seeing Jacobs smaller and tentative
-
Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Back to reality Jacobs takes 2nd with jab. Mora compares the head movement of Chavez to Joe Frazier :kick:
-
Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Jacobs 3rd better and only boxing going on in there. Chavez complains to ref. How high was he to think dying his hair blond and blue was a good idea.
-
Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Good poise and combos Jacobs. Chavez talks up ref 3 times. If Jacobs puts on the mean streak little doubt Chavez could stay on his stool late.
-
Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Chavez has a brief moment, Jacobs ...waaaait ;D;D
Ok he quit standing up in corner. I was close. They should take another million from him
-
Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
It's not quite Minter-Hagler or Lopez-Molina but no need to bomb the ring with shat like that. What a shit show
-
Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Bloody ell, just watched it... Cant/Shouldn't bash anyone who gets in gets in the ring especially v a fellow as good as jacobs..... But chavez shouldn't be allowed near the top level again :S pays a million quid to come in overweight then complains to the refa lot and quits.... Ugh seniors reaction ringside said it all.... Mickey Rourke and the ring cards as a sort of Roman tortoise formation was pretty amusing though....

Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
this has to be it for chavez jr now right? the industry has enabled this quitter for far too long. so satisfying to see him getting pelted with trash on the way out

Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Of course this was it and that was the point all along. You get the restraining order from your suspension knowing a suspension is coming but who cares because you get your last payday. Who cares about training, come in fat. Who cares about PEDs. Who cares about sport
F everyone involved with this crap show

Swanson, you seem to know a lot about the inner workings of the sport. Are you American or British?

He quit AGAIN??!!??!!??!!??
Sorry to go back in time and mention those who are no longer here..... so I'll do so indirectly.
Ironic to think there was someone on the forum (thankfully for me no longer here) who at one time had the gall to call Puerto Rican fighters quitters, off the first Cotto-Margacheato fight (when later it was discovered Margo was using plaster in his gloves).
This bum embarrassment-to-boxing bozo clown dude has quit TWICE in his corner.
I feel totally sorry for his famous father.
Anyone who ever allows Junior to get another payday from boxing should be drawn and quartered, or at least flogged 100 times in the town square.

That was side-splitting, @Master . I know how much a fan you are of Senior..... so I feel your pain.
BTW.... don't know if it was a typo.... but the "Ceased" part was pretty clever (and appropriate too). As in Senior saying..... "You have CEASED being Chavez! Can't take any more of your embarrassment."

Did you see the great man sitting there shaking his head?
I would demand he change his name or sue him for embarrassing it.

Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Didn't see it but many say Jacobs did an Andre Ward dirty job out there and did not look good himself. Will see for myself later.
-
Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
People online lie. Jacobs was edging a dull fight. Chavez quit there. Jacobs did what he needed to but looked a little laboured again.
-
Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
I can't believe we got 5 pages for this farce.
-
Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Five pages of people moaning about Chavez jr yet not one mention of Martinez-Rosales which was always going to be a cracking fight. The little Mexican has quickly become a must watch fighter. Vicious and relentless.
Martinez-Tanaka?
-
Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
As someone who didn't care about either guy and just watched it, Chavez was doing better than I expected him to. Pretty inexplicable quit job.
-
Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Just watched the last 3 rounds of this . Chavez can’t be bothered to get in shape, which is unacceptable for the money he makes.
But he was in the fight and competitive throughout. Yes , Jacobs is a bit of a dirty fighter, but you can’t let that bring you down.
Chavez Jr. Is basically a con man.
But it’s amazing the power of the Media making things look like something dramatic. On the recording I’ve just watched, Chavez Sr. Put his head in his hands and looking upset immediately on the bell of the 5th round BEFORE his boy “quit.” Probably disappointed at the way his son was approaching the fight, not because he quit.
But after the fight and what subsequently happened , they made it look like Sr. was gutted that his son quit. Because that was a much bigger story.

Re: Daniel Jacobs v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Joe Frazier went thru the same with Marvis

I mentioned it in my boxing thread. It was a very good performance. The fights against Tanaka, Mthalane, Dalakian and others will be wonderful
