Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
Conor Benn has mocked Chris Eubank Jr for having "daddy issues" after his father claimed their fight next month is off.
The sons of legendary boxers Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn are scheduled to renew their family rivalry in London on October 8 at a catchweight fight. Eubank's father recently put the fight in jeopardy by claiming his son has pulled out, telling the Daily Mail : "My son’s life cannot be put in danger… I’ve already lost one. It can’t happen again". The ring legend was referring to his second eldest son Sebastian who tragically died from a heart attack last year just before his 30th birthday.
Benn has now taken to social media to mock Eubank over his father's comments, posting a picture alongside undefeated middleweight boxer Felix Cash with the caption: "Just sparred 10 rounds. While someone’s having daddy issues…". Eubank, who is yet address his father's comments, recently doubled down on his promise to retire from boxing if Benn beats him next month.
“I said it – if he pulls off a miracle and beats me, I have to retire," he said during an intense face-off with Benn. "So that’s a huge pressure. I’ve never ever said this, ever. An act of God is what it would be for you [Benn] to beat me. I’m always a man of my word, so that’s another reason why this is personal – because I love being a fighter, I love the sport of boxing.
'I don’t want it to end. If you [Benn] pull off the miracle, I’m going to give you full credit. I’m telling you now, if you were to beat me I give you full credit and I walk away from the sport. So it’s not an excuse. I believe it’s a physical impossibility that you get anywhere close to me. Prove me wrong.”
Both Eubank and Benn go into their grudge fight carrying the pressure of their father's rivalry which dates back to 1990. Over 40,000 people attended Old Trafford to watch the rematch between the two British icons after Eubank Sr won their first meeting by knockout. The rematch ended in a split draw and many fans feel their sons are fulfilling the trilogy fight of the series.
Benn, who is unbeaten in 21 professional fights, admitted that Eubank is the toughest opponent he's faced so far, stating: "There comes a stage in your career when you do take risks and this is that jump. I'm going in there and do exactly what I plan on doing, the same way I've done with every single one of my past opponents. Talk all you want, but talk is cheap when we get in there."

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
Chris Eubank Jr appeared to dismiss his famous father's fears over his weight for his upcoming clash with Conor Benn by scoffing down a huge dessert.
Chris Eubank Sr claimed earlier this week he is prepared to take legal action to force the cancellation of his son's clash with Benn which is scheduled to take place in London on October 8. Eubank Sr is concerned about his son having to weigh in at a career-low 157lb for the bout before having to step on the scales again on the morning of the bout.
But Eubank Jr's promoter Kalle Sauerland has insisted the fight will go ahead, and the fighter himself appears to have no concerns as he posted a video to social media of himself picking up a skewer of profiteroles before dipping one in a sauce and taking a bite.
Eubank Sr had said he feared losing another son following the death of Sebastian last year just days before his 30th birthday. "We have to be strict otherwise lives are put in danger and my son’s life cannot be put in danger. I’ve already lost one. It can’t happen again," he told the Daily Mail.
But Sauerland dismissed fears the fight would be cancelled when he told talkSPORT: "The fight is absolutely on, that’s all really I can say to it. I’ve seen it came from one comment to one journalist which of course spread like wildfire. We don’t have a contract with Chris Eubank Sr, we have a contract with Chris Eubank Jr.
Will Chris Eubank Jr make it to the ring to fight Conor Benn? Let us know in the comments section below
He was sparring yesterday, my only issue at the moment is to find sparring partners because he’s going through them like a hot knife through butter. The fight is very much on. The contract is between us – that’s Wasserman Boxing – and Eubank Jr - so I don’t see what legal route there could be if that’s the case.
"I haven’t spoken to Sr. I have spoken to Jr – he reported yesterday that he had a very good sparring session, that was last night. For us it’s just about pushing and pushing. We all know it’s a massive event."

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
CHRIS EUBANK, who had starved himself of food and liquid for three agonising days, stared longingly at three large jugs filled to the brim with pineapple juice.
He had them put on a table close to the scales as he waited impatiently to weigh in for his WBC super-middleweight title defence against American Dan Schommer.
After making the 12-stone limit, Eubank raced to the jugs with the speed of a desperate man who had been lost in a desert suddenly coming across a life-saving oasis.
That scenario was played out in Sun City, South Africa, 28 years ago and I’ve never forgotten the sight of Chris, his body dangerously bone-dry through dehydration, gulping down all three jugs without stopping to take a breath.
As a result of putting himself through such a severe weight-reducing process, his performance was well below par and he struggled to outpoint the mundane Schommer.
It was no surprise to me when Eubank last week expressed grave fears at the risk his super-middleweight son Chris Jr was taking by agreeing to get down to 157lbs for his catchweight clash with welterweight Conor Benn at London’s O2 Arena on October 8.
The Brighton braggart knows only too well from bitter experience how making weight can leave a fighter weak, even hours after rehydrating.
He claims making his boy get down to 157lbs is suicidal and says he will try to get Chris Jr to pull out, saying: “This fight should not be allowed to happen - it is too dangerous.”
Chris Jr dismissed his father’s concerns about his safety though he did admit having to scale down to 11st 3lbs means he will only be 60 per cent of his best when he faces unbeaten Benn.
To ensure Chris Jr is taking weight off gradually and sensibly, the British Boxing Board of Control have been monitoring him and will continue to do so for the next two weeks.
In fact, Eubank Sr should be even more concerned about Conor, who is up against a much bigger man with vastly more experience.
Because there is such a marked difference between the size of the two men, precautions are being taken in an attempt to try to make it a more even playing field.
Chris Jr is contracted to have a second weigh-in at 11 o' clock on the morning of the fight and he won’t be allowed to put on more than 10lbs overnight.
But in the 11 hours before he steps in the ring it is possible he could eat two meals and he will certainly have drunk plenty of water.
Just one litre of water is equivalent to 2.2lbs and I would very surprised if Eubank isn’t well over a stone heavier than Conor by the time the first bell sounds.
That’s an enormous advantage over such a much smaller opponent.
In this column in July I wrote there must be reservations about the validity of Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank’s kids fighting each other and suggested it smacks of a money-making gimmick.
There has never been a more acrimonious rivalry in British boxing history generated by the two battles between their fathers in the 90s – and as expected their heirs’ hostilities have certainly caught the fans’ imagination.
But boxing is dangerous enough already without putting extra perilous obstacles in a fighter’s way.
eddy Atlas, who was teenager Mike Tyson’s first trainer and one of America’s most respected, once said “Catch-weights are essentially breaking the rules to benefit someone else - a blight on the sport.”
I couldn’t agree more.

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
Chris Eubank Jr has explained why he’ll walk away from professional boxing if he loses to Conor Benn.
Next Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London, Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn will put an end to a feud between families that’s been ongoing for decades now.
The pair had teased the idea of a match-up many times in the past but it finally looks set to happen in front of a sold-out crowd in the English capital.
It’ll take place at a catchweight of 157 pounds with Benn moving up two weight classes, whereas Eubank Jr will be dropping to 157 for the first time in his career.
There’s a whole lot on the line here for both men with the biggest prize of all, of course, being the bragging rights that will come with finally putting an end to this rivalry once and for all.
Eubank Jr serves as the senior veteran out of the two with a record of 32-2, giving him a lot more time in the ring than Benn as he moved to 21-0 earlier this year.
He’s also seven years older which is a point that’s divided many fans between those who think the experience will favour him and those who believe it could hinder his speed in comparison to the lighter Benn.
During a recent media appearance that the two shared on Good Morning Britain, Eubank Jr revealed that he will be retiring from boxing if he can’t get the job done before going on to explain why.
“I’ve said it before and this is the first time I’ve said it throughout my career – if I lose this fight, I retire, and I love fighting. I love the sport, I love being a boxer, I don’t want it to end.”
Eubank Jr was then asked directly why he’d walk away if he couldn’t get the job done.
“Because losing to a Conor Benn at this stage of my career, it means I’m not the fighter that I thought I was, or that I think I am. I wanna challenge for world titles within the next six to twelve months. I can’t do that with a loss to Conor Benn.
“My father retired at 32, I’m 33 years old. So, this is an extremely important fight and there’s a lot of pressure on me not only to win, but to uphold the name and the family legacy.”

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
Benn isn't world class in his own division. This is a circus fight at best.
-
Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
Roy Jones Jr thinks Eubank Jr will win "with no problem" but he has warned the Brit that he will need to "be careful":
"I think Eubank wins the fight with no problem, but there are a few things he [will] have to do to make sure he keeps being in check," Jones told FightHype.com. "Eubank is probably more experienced, the bigger and the better fighter, so all my thoughts would be towards Eubank. "But there are some things that Conor could do to cause problems, and I've already warned Chris of those things, so I think he'll be fine." When asked to elaborate, Jones added: "Keep the head down, be careful, watch for the big left hook - things like that."
Jones Jr has been Eubank Jr's trainer for recent fights but they have not worked together to prepare for the clash against Benn. Eubank Jr instead appears to have either gone solo, or has brought his father back into the fold. The 53-year-old understands this decision and he is not bitter about not being called up: "If it was me and he asked me what he should do, I would've told him to do just that," Jones continued. "Your fathers are the reason the fight is happening and having the fathers there in the corners is going to make it even bigger for everybody. "So if I was a fan, I would definitely want to see Nigel in Conor's corner and see Eubank Sr. in Chris' corner."

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
Benn has been floored by WW journeymen; he isn't a world class puncher at WW.
Eubank has a steel chin and is so much bigger, this fight looks like a mismatch to me.
2 lower than world class fighters cashing in on daddy's reputations. PPV ? don't make me laugh.

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
The trainer who oversaw the finest performance of Chris Eubank Jnr’s career believes his former fighter would beat Conor Benn even without someone working his corner.
He has, however, warned Eubank Jr his unorthodox approach will eventually lead to him again suffering defeat.
The Las Vegas-based Nate Vasquez prepared Eubank Jr for what remains his biggest win, over James DeGale in February 2019, and the victory over Matvey Korobov later that year in December before seeing him appoint Roy Jones Jr as his new trainer.
Since then Eubank Jr has been less convincing, but for all of his apparent commitment to Jones Jr, he is hoping his corner on Saturday against Benn will comprise of Ronnie Davies and his father, Chris Sr.
Vasquez is confident that as the middleweight – one who has previously won at super middleweight – fighting at 157lbs against a natural welterweight, Eubank Jr will ease to victory over Benn at London’s O2 Arena, but he regardless believes that the direction in which the 33-year-old is moving is undermining his career.
An amateurish setup against both Billy Joe Saunders and George Groves in 2014 and 2018 contributed to Eubank Jr’s two previous defeats, and Vasquez told talkSPORT: “Chris beats [Benn] with no corner. It’s going to be like Triple G [Gennady Golovkin beating]-Kell Brook [in 2016].
“Benn will do good for the first couple of rounds, because Chris don’t warm up until, like the fourth round. When I trained him I wanted him to come out quick, ‘cause I don’t wanna play catch up in rounds.
“Chris is going to warm up and keep getting stronger and stronger. I don’t see Benn hurting Chris.
“[But] it’ll take another loss for him to realise, ‘Maybe I should have had Roy Jones or someone else in the corner’. All the fights I watched with his father in the corner, his father didn’t tell him anything. Sometimes he just stood in the corner and just turned his back on him.
“You’ve seen what his dad does in the corner. His dad’s about one thing, and that’s himself. His dad is trying to steal the show from everyone else. He’s flamboyant. That’s how Snr is. He wants the spotlight. I don’t think it’s a good idea for his father to be in the corner.
“[Chris Jr] could be real good. His problem is he don’t wanna listen. He wants to do his own thing, and that’s fine, but it ain’t gonna get him nowhere.”
Vasquez, who first met Eubank Jr at the Mayweather Boxing Club – he learned at the hands of the respected Roger and Jeff Mayweather in Vegas, and Dan Birmingham and Winky Wright in Florida – also believes Jones has been guiding him incorrectly.
“DeGale was probably his best win and he looked the best in that,” he explained. “He looks horrible, with Roy, trying to fight like Roy. It’s not entertaining.
“People that watch him fight want to see him in there, [a] knockout; mixing it up; throwing combos. [But] he’s bouncing around like Roy.
“Chris’ [natural] style is to press forward. He’s not a boxer. He ain’t never going to be a boxer. If he turns into a boxer he’s gonna end up getting beat by a boxer or it’s going to be a boring fight no one’s going to want to watch.
“I was trying to get him to use his jab a lot more and his combos, which he did in the DeGale fight. He was in there brawling, but I wanted to work on his defence and his jab a lot – they were key.
“For the time we worked together, he did great. He listened, and he went with the game plan. Everything fell in place for that fight.
“He’s a great athlete. He’s strong. He’s quick when he wants to be quick; he just sometimes gets back into his bad habits, because he’s never really had someone to tell him, ‘Stop doing it’. His footwork is one of them – he [sometimes] crosses his feet instead of moving his front foot first. He wouldn’t use his jab at all – he was just throwing and mauling with no defence at all, [and his] chin up in the air.
“There’s a lot better trainers than Roy. I don’t think Roy’s a trainer; you don’t show people how to fight like you. There’s one Roy Jones Jr. There’ll never be another.
“I don’t think he’s looked good at all [since working under him]. He’s got the wins, but he ain’t really fought nobody.”
Eubank Jr’s most recent victory, in February over Liam Williams at middleweight, is widely regarded as another of his best. Saturday’s fight instead demands that he weighs in at 157lbs, a potential cause for concern after more than 10 years as a professional fighting above that, but Vasquez said: “He had no problem making 160lbs for [the Korobov fight, after beating DeGale at 168lbs]. We weren’t in England but he didn’t even have a nutritionist and he made 160lbs pretty easy.
“When he made 160lbs he was sipping on water all night that night, and had something to eat before he went to bed. So, he’s dedicated to the sport. He has a [strong] mentality. He wasn’t eating junk food or anything like that.
“The first time I worked with him I thought he looked like s***. His footwork was horrible; he had no jab; he was lunging in; he was winging shots. ‘Holy s***, this guy needs a lot of work.’
“But he has what a lot of fighters don’t have, and that’s the heart; the determination. Some fighters just ain’t got that will, or the fight in ‘em. Chris has it in him. He’s not going to go in there and quit and lay down.”

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
A good few years back when GGG was at his brutal best, I was touting Eubank Jnr as the man to topple him. Bomb proof chin. Great engine and output. I genuinely thought he had the tools to get the job done. Fast forward to present day and he's no closer to fighting him than he was back then. He'll drop his name of course. But Eubank's career has been at a mediocre stand still for years and despite what he says, his actions scream I'm not interested in fighting the biggest and best. He's found his niche in life and beating up average or undersized men is it.
He'll flog the legacy narrative of course. Family name and any other trite bullshit he can think of to roll this turd in glitter. It was a joke that he actively pursued the Brook fight, it's a joke that he's taking this fight.

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
The closer this gets the more ridiculous this match up seems. Benn could suffer a serious crushing loss here he may never recover from.

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
THIS FIGHT SHOULD BE CALLED OFF!!!!!!
Conor Benn fails drugs test but will still fight Chris Eubank Jnr
Conor Benn has failed a drugs test but intends to proceed with this Saturday’s fight with Chris Eubank Jnr.
The 26-year-old has reportedly tested positive for Clomifene, a substance normally used to treat infertility in women, but which can have beneficial effects on levels of testosterone in men.
Clomifene is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada), although it is understood that the failed test was carried out by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (Vada).
Benn has not failed any tests carried out by the UK Anti-Doping Agency (Ukad), who are appointed by the British Board of Boxing Control to conduct all regulatory testing for the fight. As a result, Benn and Eubank have signalled their intention to go ahead with Saturday's contest, despite the former's B sample yet to be tested by Vada.
A statement published by Benn’s promoters Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Boxing and Wasserman Boxing read: “We have been made aware that a random anti-doping test for Conor Benn conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association returned an adverse analytical finding for trace amounts of a fertility drug. The B sample has yet to be tested, meaning that no rule violation has been confirmed. Indeed, Mr Benn has not been charged with any rule violation, he is not suspended, and remains free to fight.
“Mr Benn has since passed a doping control test conducted by the UK Anti-Doping Agency, the anti-doping authority to which the British Board of Boxing Control has delegated its doping control testing for the bout, Mr Benn has passed all doping control tests conducted by Ukad.
“Both fighters have taken medical and legal advice, are aware of all relevant information, and wish to proceed with the bout this Saturday.”
Telegraph Sport has contacted the British Boxing Board of Control for comment.

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
As if we don't get kicked in the nuts by boxing enough already.
Complete and utter clusterfuck! Maybe Eddie being too busy to take Queensbury calls makes sense after all? ;D
The fight should be off, and Benn should be suspended pending the conclusion of the VADA testing process. Zero tolerance for failed drug tests. It has to be the only way.

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
CHRIS EUBANK JR has claimed he did NOT receive a phone call from Conor Benn following his positive drugs test.
The pair, whose fathers had two wars in the 1990s, are in danger of not fighting this Saturday after the British Boxing Board of Control called it off.
The sold-out O2 and pay-per-view fight bout was dramatically thrown into doubt after it emerged that Benn, 25, had returned an adverse finding in his pre-fight drug test.
But it was then confirmed that both fighters were happy for the fight to go ahead, with Benn claiming he had called Eubank Jr to talk things out.
However, Eubank Jr has now denied a call ever took place.
He told Matchroom Boxing: "There was no phone call. We haven't spoken since this was announced.
"It's a shame. But my promoters, his promoters, the boxing board of control, they're going to sort it out.
"I'm ready, I'm clean, I'm 60 per cent. I've been tested my entire career for the last 10 years. I've been tested more than I've ever been tested for a fight during this training camp.
"I have an app on my phone where I have to designate where I'm going to be every single day and I've been on that app for my entire career and I will be on it for the rest of my career.
"They can come and test me for blood and urine unannounced whenever they see fit and I've never failed a test. I've even been tested on holiday.
"I don't condone failed tests."
Eubank then went on to insist he remains focused on beating Benn this Saturday night, albeit with some reservations in the back of his head given the failed test.
He continued: "I am staying out of the politics, I dont know whats going on, I have heard the news, all I can do is be a professional and be ready to fight, I am ready, and as news unfolds we will deal with it as it goes on.
"I am prepared, I have done my job, it is now in hands of promoters, governing bodies to make this fight happen. All I can do is be ready.
"Of course there are concerns, I can't really say too much. I am ready, I am a clean fighter, I have cut the weight, I am ready to go, I am in as much know as you guys are."
Benn was told he had returned an adverse finding for the banned substance clomifene.
The substance, which is usually used to treat infertility in women but can increase testosterone in men, is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Benn responded to the findings by telling DAZN: "I've not committed any violations. I've not been suspended. So as far as I'm concerned the fight's still going ahead.
"I've spoken to Chris [Eubank Jr] personally, and we both want the fight to go ahead.
"We've both taken medical and legal advice, and as I said, we want the fight to happen for the fans.
"I've signed up to every voluntary anti-doping testing there is under the sun.
"Throughout my whole career I've been tested. All my UK tests have come back negative throughout my whole career, I've never had any issues before.
"Even in the lead-up to this fight, my tests have come up negative, you know, so my team will find out as to why there's been an initial adverse finding in my test.
"But as I said, as far as I'm concerned the fight is still going ahead, I'm a clean athlete and we'll get to the bottom of this.
"I just want to thank everyone for their continued support and I'll see you on Saturday."
Eubank Jr's promoter Kalle Sauerland confirmed the star was still happy to fight - with the boxer then sharing a statement from Matchroom alongside a facepalm emoji.
Sauerland told TalkSPORT: “There has been a trace finding of a female fertility drug in a VADA test, which is seaware from the UKAD scheme.
“At the end of August and the start of September, when this test was done and it was relayed to us when the result came back.
“The board follows UKAD rules and the UKAD tests were negative. We took medical advice and although it is not a PED it can raise testosterone levels.
“We discussed this with Chris and he was happy to continue and he spoke to Benn directly. They had a personal discussion and it's a personal matter for Benn.”
Sauerland added: “I can confirm we and Chris want the bout to happen.
“There was a trace finding, the key is the UKAD findings and medical advice. The medical advice is the be-all-and-end-all.
“The instant reaction is FIGHT OFF but then you look into what it is.
“You have to look at the scenario around it and the fact the other tests were not positive.”
Matchroom promoter Hearn also released a statement confirming that the fight would still take place.
He said: “We have been made aware that a random anti-doping test for Conor Benn conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association returned an adverse analytical finding for trace amounts of a fertility drug.
“The B sample has yet to be tested, meaning that no rule violation has been confirmed.
“Indeed, Mr Benn has not been charged with any rule violation, he is not suspended, and he remains free to fight.
“Mr Benn has since passed a doping control test conducted by the UK Anti-Doping Agency, the anti-doping authority to which the British Board of Boxing Control has delegated its doping control testing for the bout.
“Mr Benn has passed all doping control tests conducted by UKAD.
“Both fighters have taken medical and legal advice, are aware of all relevant information, and wish to proceed with the bout this Saturday.”
However, the BBBoC stepped in and declared the scrap is prohibited under their sanctioning, despite BOTH fighters wanting to continue with the bout.
A BBBoC statement read: "On the evening of 4th October 2022, the Board of the British Boxing Board of Control Limited resolved that the contest between Chris Eubank Jnr. and Conor Benn scheduled to take place on 8th October 2022 is prohibited as it is not in the interests of Boxing."
Eubank Jr, 32, was preparing to fight at a career-lowest catchweight of 157lb, following stints at 160lb at middleweight and even 168lb.
And anticipation was building on whether he would make the contracted limit, following posts dining out on fast food and puddings.
Benn was also preparing to fight 10lb above any of his 21 prior wins in the ring.

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
Carl Frampton has made his position on what he thinks should happen to Conor Benn after his failed drugs test abundantly clear.
This comes amid the news that Benn has tested positive for the banned substance clomifene from a VADA test (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) ahead of his highly anticipated clash with Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday night.
Clomifene is a substance banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency that is mainly used to treat infertility in women but it can also increase testosterone levels in men.
As it stands both fighters and their promoters want the fight to still go ahead, as Benn has passed all tests carried out by UKAD (UK Anti-Doping).
Eubank Jr’s promoter, Kalle Sauerland, even told talkSPORT that they had received medical advice telling them that clomifene is not a performance enhancing drug and should not give Benn any advantage.
With that being said, the British Boxing Board of Control are trying to put a stop to the fight, as they released a statement saying that it was ‘prohibited’ and both teams had been informed.
Former two-weight world champion, Carl Frampton, believes the fight should not only be cancelled but that any boxer who fails a drugs test should be banned from boxing for life.
“Boxing does itself no favours,” Frampton posted on Twitter. “There should be no grey areas.
“If you fail a test you’re banned and in my opinion you should be banned for life.
“I’ve been super cautious from my amateur days of what I can and can’t take.
“I wouldn’t take a multi vitamin unless VADA approved. I refused a topical psoriasis ointment as it had steroids in it.
“Deterrents need to be stronger.”
Speaking to talkSPORT, Frampton added:
“Whether you’ve taken something accidentally or not you’ve still done something wrong.
“It was drilled into me as an amateur about what I can and can’t take so you should just know better.
“I had a bit of psoriasis on my skin before I fought in El Paso, it was a good bit, and I got a bit embarrassed about it but I was offered an ointment from a dermatologist but it contained steroids so I didn’t take it, I was afraid to take it.”
As it stands the issue is being dealt with by lawyers, but Benn himself has come out saying that as far as he is concerned the fight is still going ahead and described himself as a ‘clean athlete.’

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
Eddie is taking a right shoeing over this and rightly so. On cue Frank has come out and condemned everyone and everything. You watch him with a straight face announce Dubois V Browne next week. This game is fucking disgusting.
-
Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
It's not often I run speechless but this shitshow running downhill today does it. And that was before Eddie saddled up on it and he just blows it off today. Divisions matter as do banned substances. There's a growing pattern of shrugging off doping violations like it's a guy missing weight etc and a sport, a serious sport, does not survive that without serious reform. Fight should be off no second thoughts and Benn suspended.
-
Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
Am I the only one that is DELIGHTED that this fight is off. It should never have been considered in the first place and rehydration clauses to make it an even match up are just fucking wrong! If that’s what has to be done, then surely common sense tells you it’s a non starter.
I really hope that Hearn and DAZN not only lose a lot of money , but also a lot of credibility, and then perhaps they’ll think twice about circuses like this in the future.
As for Benn failing a drug test, well talking about pouring oil on the flames!
Picture this, the fight went ahead under the Luxembourg BBOC, a roided Benn knocks out a dehydrated Eubank and serious damage occurs. Scandalous.
Finally, the one thing that has not been mentioned, the whole boxing community needs to eat some serious humble pie in front of Eubank Sr. And give him some respect and credit for his actions for once.
He may be a bit eccentric, but he was bang on with this.
-
Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
Haye fought Chisora under that Luxemburg on British soil which should not be allowed, and neither should this fight.
It should be taken out of the fighter's hands to decide if the fight should go on as they will both want to continue to fight and get paid.
It makes a mockery of the sport if this fight does happen on Saturday.

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
I never did like this fight
If this goes ahead, what’s the point of VADA testing, or testing in general? A drugs test for a banned substance has come back positive by an independent body.
You simply can't over look that and continue.
Eddie was screaming about Big Baby Miller and BJS. Why is it different now ? He said himself Vada is best in world and now he wants to ignore it. If someone dies in the ring is that the only time he'll acknowledge it was not right ?
And this from matchroom that have already tried to weaken the fighter (Eubank) with a weight cut and rehydration clause and they also wanted him to get gets punches in the head by a guy that's been juicing in the lead up to the fight?
Disgusting.
Maybe now we know why Benn only fights in the UK and has been looking like an absolute killer - Putting a lot of opponents to sleep of late.
Now we know why Chris Snr was so reluctant about this fight. He probably heard things about Conor that he couldn't say out loud.

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
I can”t believe I am actually saying this …… but I agree with Denilson ;D
Benn should be banned for a long time for this, but he won’t be. He was definitely not a banger when he started out, quite feather fisted compared to his dad.
I’m not an expert, but my understanding is that female fertility drugs are used at the end of a PED cycle to normalise your hormone levels and prevent weight gain and stop you growing tits. That particular drug is man made specifically for female fertility purposes and it does not occur naturally nor is it included in other products. If it has been found in Benn’s body, then he took it on purpose.
Being a murderous drug cheat has damaged his family name much more than if he had just got starched by Eubank in the first round.
Somebody is going to die at the hands of a drug cheat one day. Will that be a murder charge?

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
One of Conor Benn’s most recent opponents has said he is ‘not surprised’ by the adverse drug test tesult that has thrown the Briton’s fight with Chris Eubank Jr into doubt.
Benn last fought in April, knocking out Chris van Heerden in Round 2, while his previous fight saw the 26-year-old stop Chris Algieri in the fourth round in December.
“Initial thought: Not surprised, not surprised one bit,” Algieri said on Inside Boxing Live, addressing Benn’s adverse drug test result.
“I had heard, around the time that I was fighting him, that he was not a clean fighter. And I like to give fighters the benefit of the doubt; this is about competition, I never want to take away from anyone who steps in that squared circle – it’s the most dangerous thing you could ever do.
“I respect every fighter who steps in the ring, [but] I do not respect cheaters, and for me to hear this... this hits hard. It hits hard, it hits home, and again: Not surprised, not surprised.
“There are certain tells, there are certain things. Many, many times I’ve fought world-class guys, and hearing this wasn’t anything that shocked me. It shocked me because he got caught, it didn’t shock me because it’s a reality.”
American Algieri has not fought since his brutal knockout loss to Benn in Liverpool. The 38-year-old has insisted that he will compete again, however, due to the bitter taste that this week’s news has left in his mouth.
“It makes me feel like I can’t stop now,” he said. “I can’t go out against a cheater. I don’t know, there’s a lot of emotions today, and you guys are getting a very raw perspective from me right now. It burns.”
Comparing drug testing in the UK and US, Algieri added: “I’ve fought over in the UK, it wasn’t like fighting over here in America.
“I didn’t see inspectors over my shoulder like they are in New York. When I fight in New York City, I’ve got guys over my back who want to make sure when I go to the bathroom they’re coming with me. I didn’t see that over there. There was very little testing.”

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn has been CANCELLED following the controversy surrounding Benn's failed drug test.
Benn and Eubank Jr were scheduled to settle their family feud in London on Saturday night, 30 years on from their fathers' legendary rematch which ended in a draw. But the £15million fight has now been called off after Benn returned a positive test for clomifene, a substance found that is used to treat infertility in women but can also boost testosterone production in men.
Benn's adverse finding came to light yesterday but both fighters were determined to fight this weekend, despite the British Boxing Board of Control insisting they would not sanction the fight. Promoter Eddie Hearn vowed to pursue every avenue to ensure the bout went ahead, but has now been forced to accept defeat after deciding against taking the matter to the High Court.
A statement read: "After discussions with various parties, we have taken the decision to formally postpone the bout between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn. It is undeniable that the British Boxing Board of Control's decision to withdraw their sanctioning was procedurally flawed and without due process. That remains a legal issue between the promoters and the Board which we intend to pursue.
"However, whilst there are legal routes to facilitate the fight taking place as planned, we do not believe that it is in the fighters' interests for those to be pursued at such a late stage, or in the wider interests of the sport. As promoters, we take our obligations and duties very seriously, and a full investigation will now need to take place. We will be making no further comment at this time and news for ticket holder refunds will follow."
Benn's failed test was carried out by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) and took place in August, with Benn since returning a negative test. Matchroom Boxing's initial statement read: "We have been made aware that a random anti-doping test for Conor Benn conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association returned an adverse analytical finding for trace amounts of a fertility drug. The B sample has yet to be tested, meaning that no rule violation has been confirmed."
Benn had passed all doping control tests conducted by the UK Anti-Doping, meaning he was not charged with any rule violation despite the VADA test failure. And the son-of-a-legend insisted he was innocent, saying: "I've spoken to Chris personally and we both want the fight to go ahead. We've both taken legal and medical advice and we want the fight to happen for the fans.
"I have signed up to every test under the sun, all my UKAD tests have come back negative throughout my career and even in the lead-up to this fight my tests have come up negative.
"My team will find out why there was an adverse finding in my test but as far as I'm concerned the fight is going ahead. I'm a clean athlete and we'll get to the bottom of this. [Chris] believes in me and it's not who I am or what I'm about; he was understanding and we both want the fight to go ahead."
Benn and Eubank Jr were due to meet at a catchweight of 157lb, three pounds lighter than the Eubank Jr has weighed during his professional career. Benn was moving up two weight classes for the grudge match and was a considerable underdog heading into the fight, which would have been the toughest test of his professional career.

Crazy to say but Eubank Jnr is the one who is coming out shining for this. I'd want Eubank to totally humiliate Benn had this would have went ahead. The drug he took (Clomid) from what I've read on google increases your testorone by 200%. I mean dude ? That's DragonBall Z sh*t that

I was never really that excited about this fight but got dragged along into it. It’s the right thing that it’s been called off.
Been should now just own it and deal with it. Nigel Benn and Conor Benn both see themselves as alpha males. Benn snr must be fuming the Benn name tarnished and his sons face photoshopped onto photos of pregnant women will be floating around in cyberspace forever more..how embarrassing. Stupid twat

I didn't want to see the fight happen anyway. It was a horrible money making exercise built on the back of the fights between two legends whose sons can't hold a jockstrap to them. Benn should be banned for a long time. I'd be fine with a lifetime ban.

Agree with this.
This was only ever a cynical cash grab.
These two have careers to be getting on with, particularly Eubank who is 33 and should be gunning for the big dogs at 160.
Benn is in one of the best divisions in the sport with some monsters at the top and coming up through the ranks whom he should be targeting too.
This fight was always a circus just trying to piggy back on a 30+ year old rivalry of their fathers who were far superior fighters.

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
The Cedric Paynoud fight changed it for Benn. This is the fight that let him know that he didn't have it and the realization of how hard boxing is.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNwrfjOddRM
Go to 34.08 in his post match interview with his face all busted up and being knocked down a few times and was lucky to get the decision. He already tells the interview that he's thought "This ain't for me" about boxing.
That was the moment he decided to cheat.
He knew he had a big name to carry and wasn't good enough to carry that name.
Clomid comes only in pill form. So he can't bullsh*t and tell everyone that he ate a steak or protein shake and clomid is a masking agent that's used to mask the BIG drugs that guys like him take. He's probably been taken growth hormone pills and EPO (Erythropoietin) injections....all that sh*t.
It wasn't enough for them to insist that Eubank cut himself to a weight he ain't been at since he was 18. It wasn't enough for them to insist on Eubank having a strict rehrdrayion clause (Setting a limit on how much weight Eubank can put back on after the weigh-in) ....but benn was jucing as well ?
https://media2.giphy.com/media/9JpqC...giphy.gif&ct=g
It's almost like they were trying kill Eubank
Honestly ? If I was Eubank ? Now you're taken it to a street level. This is the type of sh*t were we are gonna settle this outside the ring. And I ain't talking about punches to the face.
I'll just leave it at that

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
Conor Benn's former doctor facing investigation into doping claims
The British Boxing Board of Control is to investigate historic comments related to claims about doping tests which were made by a doctor who has previously worked with Conor Benn.
A £25 million pound fight between 26-year-old Benn and fellow Briton Chris Eubank Jr scheduled for last Saturday night in London was "prohibited" by the Boxing Board who refused to sanction the contest. It was cancelled the following day by the promoters Matchroom Boxing after it was revealed Benn had had an adverse finding for a banned substance in September as a result of a voluntary test under the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association. Benn tested positive for a fertility drug clomifene, a banned substance that can increase testosterone.
Last year, Dr Usman Sajjad gave an interview to Quality Shot Tennis in which he claimed the use of performance-enhancing drugs (Peds) was rife within boxing.
“Yeah, 80-90 per cent are doing it from what I’m seeing," Sajjad said. “It’s not just steroids. You’ve got all sorts. You’ve IV-fluid infusions after the weigh-ins, you’ve got diuretics, you’ve got growth hormones, you’ve got testosterone replacement.
“In terms of excuses, I don’t really believe them. Athletes know what’s going to happen if they fail. You have to be an idiot to fail a drug test in England, because a urine test is just 72 hours, so it means you would’ve taken drugs in the last two to three days.
“The one that trips up a lot of athletes is if you sign up to the random drugs testing. However, you can get around the random drug testing. There’s a lot of tricks, especially when you get to the higher level, the elite level. They’ll find every possible way of winning.”
Robert Smith, general secretary of the Boxing Board, told Telegraph Sport last night: "We have been made aware of these comments and will be looking into this and investigating it."
Dr Sajjad deleted his social media accounts and his own website – on which he stated his clients had included Benn, Tyson Fury, Joseph Parker, mixed martial arts fighter Paddy Pimblett, and “England Amateur Boxing” – as a result of receiving abuse in the wake of the doping storm which rocked one of the biggest British bouts of recent years.
Dr Usman’s lawyer, Scott Ewing of Ewing Law, declined to comment on his client’s current relationship with Benn or whether the pair had worked together in the build-up to the Eubank fight, citing “the sacrosanct rules governing the confidentiality of a doctor patient relationship”.
He added: “However Dr Usman categorically denies any wrongdoing that has been laid against him over the internet. This is why he has taken down his social media sites after receiving vile and untruthful abuse. Dr Usman has never had any present or historical involvement in the supply of Peds to any third party.”
Benn, who also denies any wrongdoing, faces a ban of up to four years if found guilty of taking the banned drug.
Dr Usman is registered as a medical officer with the British Boxing Board of Control, which blocked the Benn-Eubank fight from going ahead and faces being sued by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and co-promoters Wasserman.

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
FURY STANDS BY DOC Tyson Fury to continue to work with controversial doctor Usman Sajjad despite probe after Conor Benn’s failed drugs test
TYSON FURY has backed and will continue working with the controversial doctor the British Boxing Board of Control are investigating in the wake of Conor Benn’s failed drugs test.
Before Dr Usman Sajjad started working with 26-year-old Benn, he gave an extensive explanation on how to evade testing on the Quality Shot podcast.
And he claimed "80 to 90 per cent" of elite boxers are taking a range of drugs to cheat.
Sajjad - who has not been implemented in any wrongdoing - has also spoken at length about the male menopause and how testosterone replacement therapy can be used to fight it.
But his Instagram account and personal website were deleted around October 4 - just as the news of Benn’s failed test was breaking.
But the 34-year-old Gypsy King has vowed to stand by the GP who the BBBofC are now investigating.
Sajjad (right) pictured alongside Fury's younger brother, Tommy
Fury told YouTube boxing channel IDBoxing: "Usman is a good guy.
"I have known him for about a year and he works with quite a lot of boxers and whatever happens I would definitely say it has nothing to do with Usman.
"Usman will be working with me for my next fight, I trust him 100 per cent."
Fury was in Doncaster on Saturday night to watch his brother Roman make his professional boxing debut with a promising win.
And he explained that Dr Usman’s role in his camp would be that of a personal GP for a training camp and would help him with anything as simple as a common cold or an injury affecting him.
Sajjad’s baffling revealing comments, that remain widely available online, were: "If you are an elite level boxer, you know, pay-per-view, world class, European level, 80 to 90 per cent are doing it (drugs) from what I’m seeing.
"When I say doping, it’s not just steroids. You’ve got IV fluid infusion after weigh-ins, you’ve got diuretics, you’ve got growth hormones, you’ve got testosterone replacements.
"In terms of excuses, I don’t really believe them. Athletes know what’s going to happen if they fail."
Sajjad went on to detail how the different testing systems work - with limited funding - and claimed only an idiot gets caught.
He said: "A lot of times in how the drug testing system works, a lot of the fights in the UK, it’s all urine testing.
"You have to be an idiot to fail a drug test in England, because urine testing is just 72 hours (most drugs are out of your system within three days).
"You would have to take drugs two to three days before you fight.
"The urine test is after a fight. Whereas the one that trips up a lot of athletes is if you sign up to the random drug testing, which WADA (the World Anti-Doping Agency) do.
"They will track you where you are and can turn up to your house whenever and do a blood test. With a blood test, they can catch things that have been there a month.
"However you can get around the random drug testing, because between the hours of 11pm and 7am, they are not allowed to come to your house.
"A lot of athletes can take fast-acting testosterone or growth hormones which can only be in your body for seven to eight hours.
"You could take it at 9-10pm and it would be out of your system by 7am. There’s ways to get around it. A lot of tricks."

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
Conor Benn: UK Anti-Doping investigating 'adverse finding' returned in boxer's drugs test
UK Anti-Doping is investigating Conor Benn's failed drugs test that led to the postponement of his fight with Chris Eubank Jr.
Benn was due to fight Eubank Jr on 8 October but the bout was called off after he returned what promoters said was an "adverse analytical finding for trace amounts of a fertility drug".
Ukad is duty bound to investigate the case as it is a potential anti-doping violation by a boxer licensed by the British Boxing Board of Control, which is under its jurisdiction.
If found guilty of an anti-doping violation, the 26-year-old could receive a two to four-year suspension.
Benn tested positive for banned female fertility drug clomifene in August, following a test overseen by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (Vada).
The B sample will be tested and if that also comes back positive for clomifene, Benn will have the opportunity to provide any relevant information which could help explain how the substance got into his system, and could then mitigate any punishment.
He has denied any wrongdoing and is not currently suspended by the BBBofC. The board and general secretary Robert Smith have not responded to repeated requests for comment from BBC Sport.
Clomifene can be used to boost testosterone levels in men and is banned inside and outside competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Benn, who insists he is a "clean" fighter, and Eubank were scheduled to meet in the ring at a catchweight of 157lbs, 30 years after their fathers Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr fought.
The BBBofC said the bout was "prohibited and not in the interests of boxing" on 5 October and the fight was formally postponed the following day.
Promoters Matchroom said the BBBofC's decision to withdraw its sanctioning was "procedurally flawed and without due process".
Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn argued that because the BBBofC does not "recognise" Vada, it had no reason to call off the fight or suspend Benn.
Vada was hired by Benn and Eubank to provide extra testing alongside Ukad, which is the Board's official anti-doping partner.

Re: Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr
Conor Benn is reportedly being investigated over claims that he has failed a second drugs test. The accusation suggests that he returned adverse findings for the same banned substance prior to the one that lead to the cancellation of the Chris Eubank Jr fight on October 8.
The Destroyer is already facing a potential four-year ban from the sport but if the investigation proves that the claim is true then he could be facing further sanctions including a longer ban. According to the Daily Mail, Benn is claimed to have failed another drugs test earlier this year.
One eminent source, when asked to confirm the positive finding, told the newspaper: "Yes. Earlier this year. Same stuff."
Express Sport have approached Benn and his promotional company Matchroom for comment.
The substance in question once again is clomifene, a fertility drug primarily used to treat infertility in women who do not ovulate. But when used by men it can act as a testosterone booster and drugs masker, banned in all mainstream sports.
Following the news of his first failed drugs test, Benn came out and denied any wrongdoing in a statement, which read: "I am truly gutted that we were unable to make this fight happen on Saturday and I'm sorry to everyone who has been affected by the postponement.
"I am still completely shocked and surprised by this and it has been a tough couple of days, My team and I will consider the next options including rescheduling the fight, but my immediate focus is on clearing my name because I am a clean athlete!"
His father Nigel too claimed that his son was a 'clean athlete' in a video posted to social media, saying: "Hi guys, as you know we're in total shock," said Nigel. "I've been with my son for the last ten weeks and the training has absolutely gone the best it could have been. He's a dedicated trainer, he leaves no stone unturned, and we'll get to the bottom of this, I love my son.
"I know he don't cut no corners; he just goes straight at it 100 per cent but we'll keep you informed, we'll let you know what the next step is. But he's a faithful trainer and a clean athlete, speak to you all soon, God bless."
Benn and Eubank Jr were due to meet each other last weekend in a 157lb catchweight bout at the O2 Arena, London. Promoters Eddie Hearn and Kalle Sauerland have affirmed that the fight will take place at a later date.
