You did not know Usyk was Ukrainian?
No. Thought Russian.
He has been fighting for his country as has Loma and Klit brothers.
Good.
Ukraine beat Scotland today, everyone loves the country
I know not everyone loves the country.
What heavyweights has Robert Garcia trained?!
Why on Earth has AJ decided to pick Garcia over other better candidates!
Apparently this fella https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/58846. And Brandon Rios is he counts.
I'm not sure AJ can embrace that more frontal attacking mindset after his losses. He's shown he can go all in prior to Ruiz I but now with the knowledge his career is on a ledge vs the man who comprehensively beat him..I can't see it. And is he completely picking up shop to come to the States? Big change at every level.
Eddie said the fight is more than likely to be in August now.
ANTHONY JOSHUA is close to splitting from Sky Sports and signing a mega-money deal with streaming app DAZN.
The 32-year-old former heavyweight world champ has been with the broadcasters for all of his professional career.
But that contract expired after the September defeat to 35-year-old Ukraine genius Oleksandr Usyk in September.
SunSport understands he has been the subject of a bidding war since.
In 2021, London-based DAZN poached Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn away from Sky with a £100million war chest.
Joshua’s UK rights were not part of that package.
However, DAZN do show his fights elsewhere around the world.
Watford’s AJ signed a life-long deal with Matchroom one week before the points loss of his WBA, IBF and WBO titles against Usyk last year.
And the rematch targeted for August in Saudi Arabia will be his first of his next potential contract.
Defeat for Joshua will significantly harm his brand and reputation and drop him well out of the world title picture.
But a comeback victory will make him once again one of the biggest names in global sport and be a huge coup for DAZN.
Sky Sports were frontrunners to secure his signature again up until a couple of weeks ago when DAZN felt the race was lost.
But a sudden swing has now put the Len Blavatnik-owned app in the driving seat and an announcement could come as early as next week.

Frankly, unless the AJ does something radically different than last time, Usyk will just do it again. Did AJ do something radically different against Ruiz the 2nd time round? Well yes, you could say that, so there's always that possibility. But Ruiz standing right in front of him gave him that option to just box and be cautious. Usyk is a whole 'nudda can o worms.
Tyson Fury has played down the impact that Robert Garcia will have as Anthony Joshua’s new coach, saying the American will not help “AJ” to beat Oleksandr Usyk this summer.
Joshua suffered a comprehensive decision defeat by Usyk last September, losing the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight titles to the unbeaten Ukrainian in London.
Joshua is set for a rematch with Usyk this August, and the Briton has recruited Garcia to work alongside Angel Fernandez, while the 32-year-old’s long-time trainer Rob McCracken has stepped away from the camp.
“Unless Anthony Joshua gets his a** up to Morecambe and lets me train him for this fight, Robert Garcia and 10 men like him will not make him beat Usyk,” Fury said in an interview on Queensberry Promotions’ YouTube channel.
“Because: One, they don’t know him; two, they don’t know what he’s got in his engine; and three, he’s not a little Mexican who can go toe to toe with someone for 15 rounds. If he gets on Usyk from Round 1 and tries to push and be aggressive, he’ll be gassed out after four rounds and get stopped in seven.
“But if he comes to Morecambe Bay and I teach him how to be a real fighting man for 12 rounds and how to deal with these little middleweight people, then he will get a win. But other than that, I see him getting beat again. Two in a row, baby, and it’s over.

“But if he wants to resurrect his career, please come up to the man who’s never lost a fight in his life, been undefeated for 13 years and retired as only the second heavyweight in history to be on top of the game – won every belt in history there is to win.”
Joshua’s only previous defeat as a professional came in June 2019, when he was knocked out by Andy Ruiz Jr at Madison Square Garden in New York City. At the end of that year, AJ avenged the loss by outpointing the Mexican-American to regain the heavyweight belts that he had lost to him in their first fight – and would later drop to Usyk.
When asked whether Usyk – the only undisputed cruiserweight champion of the four-belt era, prior to his move up to heavyweight – could knock out Joshua, Fury said: “It all goes on what Robert Garcia’s gameplan is and how quick he wants [Joshua] to get chinned.
“To have a style of keep coming forward and putting pressure on somebody, when you’re a big man like he is and like I am, you need to have two V12 engines. You need to be able to take punches as well, and you need to have b***s like King Kong. None of them three of the above does he have.
“Other than that, he’s got to have the best gameplan ever. The way I see him doing it, if he trains with [Garcia], is he might hit him with a big punch – which he didn’t last time – and try and knock him out that way.
“Honestly if he goes on the front foot and tries to be aggressive and all that with Usyk, I think he’ll get stopped inside eight rounds, and I mean that.”
Fury knocked out Dillian Whyte in April to retain the WBC heavyweight title in an all-British bout at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Fury had vowed not to fight again after that contest, but the 33-year-old has now opened the door to a clash with the winner of Joshua-Usyk 2.

Robert Garcia is a good trainer, but Joshua is a limited fighter. You can employ smart tactics but it does change Joshua’s limitations. Short of landing that big fight changing shot Joshua will lose. He simply isn’t nearly as good as Usyk
(And Master I will always our argument about who would will between Kovalev and Usyk, bet you understand better now)
Tyson Fury has been retired for seven weeks and admits nothing has changed since calling time from the sport.
Fury retained his WBC heavyweight title by defeating Dillian Whyte inside six rounds in April at Wembley Stadium.
The 33-year-old told talkSPORT that there is no truth in rumours circulating about a return to the ring for £200m against the winner of Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua.
"Even that £200million report today, that didn't even tempt me," said Fury.
"That would be like half of what I would want to come out of retirement. I'd probably want half a billi to come out of retirement.
"I'm telling you the truth, if you want me out of retirement it's gonna cost half a billi." When asked about a fight against Joshua, Fury added: "He ain't a virgin anymore, he's been battered from pillar to post by a fat man on three weeks' notice and by a middleweight
"Usyk hasn't [been beaten], but that's a middleweight coming up from cruiserweight to heavyweight, none of my interest at all. "If it's half a billi, then I won't say no, will I? "What you've gotta do is go and get half a billi, and then the Gypsy King will come out and solve all his problems for him," Fury said about a possible comeback. "Because if AJ gets beat again off Usyk, then there's only gonna be one man to redeem this great fighting nation of the United Kingdom and he goes by the name of Tyson Fury. "I can solve all the problems, the embarrassment, all that stuff that's gonna happen. "One call, but it's gonna cost half a bill. 500 million pounds or dollars, I don't care, as long as it's half a billi." Fury could not resist a dig at Joshua when asked if he was scared or intimidated at the prospect of facing him. "Oh, I'm terrified of him. "He's got a chin of granite, heart of gold, he's got everything that a fighting man should have. "Oh, I'm absolutely shaking in my boots."

Kubrat Pulev expects Oleksandr Usyk to knock out Anthony Joshua in their highly-anticipated rematch.
The Bulgarian star doesn’t rate the British superstar very highly at all.
That’s despite being knocked out by him at the O2 Arena in London back in 2020.
But he insists that was because he didn’t prepare properly for their fight.
Pulev told iFL TV: “When they make a rematch, I think Usyk is going to knock him out because Joshua is nothing special.
“I lost against him, but I wasn’t good prepared.
“It’s my mistake, of course. It’s my fault, but that was the situation. Now I have a lot of power and energy. Health is most important.”
Joshua, 32, has assembled a crack team after having a huge sort out to help him get over what his new trainer Robert Garcia has described as a ‘mental problem’ ahead of his rematch with Usyk.
AJ suffered his second career defeat in September last year when he was outpointed by Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
But Garcia is convinced they can bring the best out of him as he attempts to regain his belts.
Garcia told his YouTube channel: “A lot of fighters, they come off a loss – like probably after the Andy Ruiz Jr fight – they come off a loss thinking that was never gonna happen.
“So it affected him, it affected him mentally.
“He probably thought, ‘Maybe that’s the end of my career, maybe that’s it,’ so he had a lot of things going on in his mind.
“I think that’s one of the most important things that affected Anthony and that’s what I’m here to change – me and Angel and other help that he’s got.
“He’s created a team of not only me and Angel teaming up, preparing the game plan and training him with the right strategy or the right sparring partners to go out and perform.
“He hired other people that are also very smart.
“Not boxing trainers, just different people that could help with the way he’s thinking.
“Somebody that’s with him, thinking positive with him. Everybody around him is positive.
“Everybody around him is pushing him to his limits, to what he was doing before he lost his first fight.
“He needs to know and believe that he’s still as good, or he’s gonna be even better than he was before he became champion for the first time, when he went out there and was knocking everybody out.”
Garcia, 47, has worked with many current and former world champions throughout his career including his brother Mikey Garcia, 34, Filipino icon Nonito Donaire, 39, and Argentine legend Marcos Maidana, 38.
He continued: “A lot of times when a fighter is so good, so accomplished with a gold medal, two-time heavyweight champion, sometimes then they might get a little too comfortable.
“They might think, ‘I already lost a fight, so maybe I’m not as good?’
“It gets to the head. It’s something that we have to change.
“Because he already did it. He already won the gold medal against the best fighters in the world.
“And then as a pro he also did beat the best to become heavyweight champion of the world.
“We didn’t see that before he lost. After he lost is when we’ve seen that there’s more of a mental problem so we’re working on that.
“We have to push him in training, in sparring.
“The work is gonna be done, he just has to go out there and perform.”

Can we add a poll here to see how people see this going.
I honestly give Joshua a 15% chance of winning and that's just going for it from the start and imposing his strength and going for the kill.
Dangerous against a smart tactician like Usyk but the only way I see an AJ win.
Once it goes past 4 Joshua is there for the taking.
Anthony Joshua v Oleksandr Usyk 2 who wins?
Poll added.
I have to go Usyk points. Reviewing highlights from the first fight, AJ has nothing that should bother Usyk this time around.
Usyk showed he takes a pretty good punch, probably better than AJ does. Usyk's side to side style is going to forever bother AJ, who only knows backwards and forward. In fact, it was exiting some of these lateral moves that Usyk tagged Joshua a lot of the times. Joshua may try and press early... but I think his survival instincts will kick in so as to not risk a knockout loss. We saw that in Joshua-Ruiz II, where AJ basically was extremely careful not to engage Ruiz and risk another knockout loss. Joshua's hands are too slow for Usyk, who moves in such a way as to absorb whatever power AJ may have. I'm sure Usyk will be the consummate boxer in the first few rounds of the fight, avoiding possible rushes and flurries from AJ. I was tempted to say Usyk by KO... but I think Usyk knows AJ could land a haymaker and change the whole course of the fight. So I'll stick with Usyk points.
Anthony Joshua has changed trainers, tactics and physique ahead of his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk but promoter Frank Warren still believes he has one big flaw that will let him down.
In the first fight between Usyk and Joshua, the Ukrainian put on a boxing masterclass to win by unanimous decision and claim the unified WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles.
Joshua was widely criticised following the loss for his game plan of trying to out-box one of the most technically gifted fighters in the world.
In the rematch, ‘AJ’ insists that he will be changing tacks and using his size and strength advantages to go for the knockout and from recent pictures posted to his Instagram it seems he is packing on the muscle in preparation.
Joshua has also switched out his long-time trainer, Rob McCracken, and replaced him with the dynamic duo of Angel Fernandez and Robert Garcia.
Despite these changes, Frank Warren, who promotes Joshua’s fiercest rival Tyson Fury, is unconvinced that the Brit will be able to get the job done in the rematch.
“I’ve seen all these pictures and photographs of how big Anthony’s got and he’s got a new trainer, so good luck to him, I hope he wins.” Warren told SecondsOut.
“But, I just think Usyk’s got his number and whatever is gonna be is gonna be.
“The big worry is you can train and train and do all of these sorts of things, you can build your body up, but one thing you can’t do is you can’t put muscles on chins.”
This is in reference to the fact that Joshua is often criticised for his lack of punch resistance, stemming from his first fight with Andy Ruiz Jr when the Brit was knocked down four times on his his way to a stoppage defeat.
With that being said, this criticism is relatively unfounded given that Joshua has only been stopped once in 26 professional bouts and outside of the Ruiz Jr fight he has only ever been dropped by Wladimir Klitschko.
This is the heavyweight division, where every fighter has the power to knock their opponent out at any moment and when that is considered, it could be said that ‘AJ’ is actually fairly robust.

Only hope is to rough him up bad and fast and risk gassing. Use the size and power. But it'll be a tad like Foreman vs Young.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1W-qAuDK0c
I'm going with Joshua this time, a bit of a risky bet but he's in a bad way if he loses so I think he'll pull it out of the bag, the guy is monsterously powerful and it'll only take a few good ones to take the life out of usyk.....
I also though Alvarez would beat bivol .
Seen photos of usyk training. Looks bigger to me.
OLEKSANDR USYK has impressed fans with his latest training pictures.
The Ukrainian is hard at work preparing for his highly-anticipated rematch with Anthony Joshua.
Usyk, 35, snatched the Brit's heavyweight belts by comfortably outpointing him at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last September.
The pair were supposed to meet again in May, although the ongoing war in Ukraine delayed the bout.
Usyk joined his country's military in the wake of Russia's invasion, but was later given permission by Ukraine's sports minister to return to training.
The 35-year-old is looking in imperious shape as he gears up for his second Joshua showdown.
In pictures shared to his Instagram, The Cat can be seen sparring with his coach at Box IQ in Dubai.
He captioned it "Working hard..." and fans are impressed with his physique.
One wrote: "Looking big."
While a second commented: "Looking big, knock him out this time."

Could backfire for Usyk... If he bulks up too much, will he lose the insane agility he needed to outmaneuver and outclass AJ the first time? Will he feel "stronger" and take more risks this time? Could backfire.
ANTHONY JOSHUA and Oleksandr Usyk's hotly-anticipated rematch is NOW finally in the diary after months of speculation.
Joshua and his Ukrainian counterpart had been due to do battle in May, but Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine put that on hold.
35-year-old Usyk returned to his home country to join the fight against Russia, which began in February.
He has now returned to his training camp upon receiving permission to do so from Ukraine's sports minister.
Usyk outpointed and largely outclassed a game Joshua in front of 70,000 fans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last September to win the WBA, WBO, IBF & IBO world titles.
Just like the Olympic gold medallist did after his loss to Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019, Joshua wants to right his wrong by facing the Ukrainian in a rematch.
Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn told The Sun earlier this month that his client is 'baffled' by the tactics used last year, and hinted at a change of gameplan for the rematch.
He said: "I was talking to him the other night and I think finally it’s baffled him why he fought like that.
"For a long time, he still felt even when he lost that he could still beat Usyk like that. But why when you don’t need to fight like that?
"He could fight in your old style and have a much better chance of beating him. Klitschko-style but Usyk is a tremendous fighter, a great counterpuncher."
Hearn added that AJ "needs to be a lot more aggressive" this time.
The two sides have spent months negotiating a money-spinning deal for AJ's second fight in Saudi Arabia, having beaten Andy Ruiz Jr on points in the oil-rich country in December 2019.
Joshua will also have a new training team, with the experienced Robert Garcia leading his corner while Angel Fernandez plays second-in-command.
- Joshua vs Usyk 2 will take place on Saturday, August 20.
- The fight is going to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
- Joshua last fought in Saudi Arabia in December 2019, with the fight beginning at 9pm UK time.
- Joshua vs Usyk 2 will be shown on DAZN after the Brit left Sky Sports in a deal worth up to £100 million.
- It's unclear how much the PPV will cost, with DAZN adding a pay-per-view arm to their model this year.
- DAZN costs £7.99 to subscribe to in the UK, with subscribers given unrivalled access to a host of big names including Canelo Alvarez and Ryan Garcia.
The fight will take place in the Jeddah Super Dome.
The 40,000-seater stadium is the largest geodesic dome in the world to stand without pillars, and hosted the WWE Elimination Chamber in February.
Saudi Arabia has been a controversial host country, with the oil-rich nation accused of sports washing after spending huge sums luring some of the world's best golfers to their new LIV series.
Hearn, however, has dismissed any such comparison. He said: "He is not worried about any backlash because he has done it before.
"He will ultimately go, 'Eddie over to you'. I am not going to pass the buck but it is very different when the deal is a 50/50 split. How can we go back to Usyk and say, 'Let’s do it at Spurs’ because they will just say it is a non-starter."

aj will lose worse this time
Adding more muscle is the last thing AJ needs, especially in his legs. And you don't actually know if you change technique until the opening bell rings and you get jabbed to the kisser. Still going Usyk tko championship rounds.
If I was in AJ corner I would tell him "Look, son, no pussyfootin around here, you cant win a boxing match, this weasel will smoke ya 8 days a week, peck the shit outta ya all night. You need to break his hip bone you need to smash his arms, rough him up, manhandle him, you are a giant, get the fuck in there and mug this guy. Tie him up, push him, lean on him, hit his hip bones, hit his elbows, rough his ass up, use your weight and power, smash his ass, and do it before the 6th round or you are fucking toast."
Yep. Thats what I'd tell him.
Exactly what he's got to do. Spot on
Tony Bellew has outlined what Anthony Joshua must do in order to beat Oleksandr Usyk – something that both Britons have failed to do.
Bellew was stopped by Usyk in the eighth round in 2018, with the Ukrainian becoming the only undisputed cruiserweight champion of the four-belt era with that result.
Joshua, meanwhile, was outpointed by Usyk in September to lose the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight titles, which he will look to regain in a rematch this August.
“So many questions surround this fight, and once the first bell goes in just over two months’ time, we’ll start to get some answers,” Bellew wrote in a column for DAZN, the streaming platform with whom Joshua signed a deal last week.
“Can the Ukranian, a fighter I know very well after sharing the ring with him back in 2018, be as good as he was last year? His brilliant footwork, timing and movement was something else, and by the time Joshua had realised what was in front of him, it was too late for him to make a difference as Usyk was already well ahead on the scorecards.
“Will Usyk use that same approach, or will he be expecting something a lot different from Joshua this time around? His boxing skills have been enough to see him become a two-weight world champion with the minimum of fuss, but this is the first rematch in his illustrious career and he surely must be expecting an improved version [of Joshua].”
Joshua has recruited Robert Garcia to his coaching team while promoting Angel Fernandez, with the Olympic gold medalist’s former trainer Rob McCracken stepping away from “AJ”’s set-up ahead of the rematch with Usyk.
“Since the loss to Usyk, Joshua has made huge changes to his team,” wrote Bellew, who labelled Garcia “legendary”. “Robert McCracken is no longer involved and that could be a big factor, but Joshua is a very smart man and he’ll be fully aware of what he’s doing with his team.
“All eyes will be on Robert Garcia in the build-up to this fight, and it’ll be interesting to see what changes he can make to Joshua at this stage of his career. He’s one of the smartest coaches around, and he wouldn’t have taken this job if he didn’t believe he could add value. He was a winner as a fighter, he’s a winner as a trainer, and he’ll be fully focused on winning when preparing Joshua for the biggest test of his career.
“He’ll want AJ to start a lot quicker, because if Usyk is allowed to settle early then you might just see a repeat of the first fight. If Joshua can use his size, speed and power but do it correctly, then he can get Usyk’s attention and let him know he’s in with a different animal from the first fight.
“That’s the approach Joshua should take: let Usyk know he’s in a tough fight right from the outset.”

Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk was just announced to the public as taking place on the 20th of August 2022 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – but now new information has surfaced as to how much the fighters will be paid for this bout, which is a 50/50 split of a simply staggering £65 million.
The first battle between the two ended in bitter defeat in his hometown of London for AJ, as the Ukrainian picked him apart over 12 rounds and eventually won on a unanimous decision. Joshua will be looking for sweet revenge and will also be looking to reclaim his WBA, IBO and WBO belts in the neutral venue of Saudi Arabia.
Labelled the ‘Rage on the Red Sea’, this fight has been spoken about for a good while and was originally supposed to be sooner than anticipated.
The original bout was supposed to be closer to somewhere around June, however, when Russia invaded Ukraine, the champion flew back to his home country and joined his local territorial defence force in Kyiv – pushing the fight back even further.
Usyk eventually returned home to train for the fight in April, but no date had yet been set.
That was until the 19th of June 2022, when the world was told a date and a venue – generating mass hype in the boxing world.
Now we’re receiving more details day by day on the fight, including how much each of the fighters will receive – which as we know is a ridiculous 50/50 split of £65 million.
According to Michael Benson, Online Boxing Editor for TalkSport – the fighters will be both coming away with a 50/50 split of £65 million… just for showing up for the fight.
He broadcast this via Twitter where his Tweet read:
‘The Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua rematch Saudi Arabia site deal is reportedly around $80million (£65million), breaking the previous record they paid for AJ’s 2019 rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr. Fight is a 50/50 financial split between the fighters.’
As mentioned in the Tweet, this breaks the record for AJ’s previous encounter in Saudi Arabia with Andy Ruiz Jr.
This is an obscene amount of money, but we’re sure the fighters won’t be complaining.
