It's already been over 6 years since Beterbiev & Bivol have been champions in the same division together at the same time
Why not make it 7 years ;D
Beterbiev's inactivity & injuries are hurting his legacy :-\
Beterbiev has a better legacy than Bivol at the weight. I would rather see a fully fit Artur fight than him taking on anyone half fit. That would be cheating the fans of a historic event in boxing.

Yes. Stevenson was the man, but when all of the other guys came on the scene, we knew it was only a matter of time before Stevenson was put out to pasture. Gvozdyk, Bivol and Beterbiev were the big three and now there are only the big two.

Yeah. And Canelo swept Kovalev out of the division. And Kovalev wasn’t the “main man” at LHW ?
I know Kovalev was a bit long in the tooth , but still the champ.
All I’m saying is there isn’t a lot of difference in their “legacy”

Kov was a beast when he won the world title but he lost to Ward and lost/avenged Alvarez before he faced Canelo so was not the force he once was a very long time ago.

I also think Beterbiev has a better legacy than Bivol at 175 right now

I'm not saying Beterbiev should have fought injured
I'm saying that these injuries are hurting his personal legacy
He's nearly 40
He's only fought once a year at this point since 2022 :-X
If he loses to Bivol he only has the Gvozdyk win as an elite victory
If he beats Bivol it's another elite win
But are 2 elite wins enough to bring him into the ATG talk?
Without the injuries he might have had another half dozen fights
His legacy could have been so much better

They sort of snuck this one in but...$70 PPV for this Stateside on Dazn :p. And that's only if you're already paying the annual rip off rate as a sub. What a racket. The last Saudi/Dazn 5 vs 5 was $30-40 if I recall. I guess the honeymoon is over and it sucks for the fans.

Beginning to make clear sense why platforms and promotions are including sports betting all over the screens, they want to ensure fans can and will be able to purchase the weekly PPVs :p. No one wants to admit it and it is clearly dated...no existing major networks to air what were regular and expected "big fights" some 7,8,9 years ago is how this flourishes. The system is broken. The more people stream without buying, the more ppv we see. Vice versa and a dog chasing its tail. Maybe if we got back to $30-40 ppv it can change. Fans have almost conditioned themselves to accept stacked rates and boxing being stuffed back behind constant paywalls. It's not sustainable.
The highly-anticipated, undisputed light-heavyweight title fight between Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev has finally been given a new date after their initial bout was postponed due to injury.
However, it was announced last month that Beterbiev had sustained a ruptured meniscus in training, ruling him out of the long-awaited fight and prompting Malik Zinad to step up as a replacement.
Bivol outclassed Zinad (22-1) with an explosive sixth-round TKO – following a huge left hook with a barrage of lefts and rights until the referee was forced to step in, to hand the Libyan the first loss of his career.
Bivol extended his own perfect record to 23-0 in what marked his first stoppage win since 2018, having arrived on the back of nine successive unanimous decision victories. “I believe my power was there every time, and I didn’t have any doubts,” explained Bivol in a post-fight interview.
After the fight, Turki Al-Sheikh, chair of General Authority for Entertainment in Saudi Arabia, entered the ring and confirmed that Bivol vs Beterbiev would now meet on the rescheduled date of October 12 to kick off Riyadh Season in Saudi Arabia.
The fighters are both unbeaten and both of Russian descent, though Bivol (23-0, 12 knockouts) represents Kyrgyzstan – his country of birth – and Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs) fights out of Canada, where he resides.
Beterbiev, 39, has won all of his professional contests via knockout and holds the WBC, WBO and IBF light-heavyweight titles, while Bivol, 33, is the division’s WBA and IBO champion – meaning undisputed status is on the line.
After his victory over Zinad, Bivol described his mindset heading into the fight following a change in opponent late in the day.
“We are professional boxers, we have to change tactics at any moment and I had enough time to change my preparations for a different fighter to Beterbiev,” explained the 33-year-old.
This fight is becoming Mayweather Jr vs Pacquiao all over again. It's already well past it's due by date. It'll be great to finally see both fighters face off against each other and to have an undisputed champ at 175 but the fight has already lost some of it's shine. I hope nothing gets in the way of the October 12th date.

Floyd v Pac Man was 5 years out of date. This one is not that bad.
A knee injury is more serious than a tooth ache for Beterbiev but he normally comes back from these injuries as good as before.

Re: Bivol v Beterbiev next!
I respectfully disagree. To me it is nothing like Floyd-Pac. That one was epochs beyond its due date. Bivol is at his prime at 33 and, although Beterbiev is more "ripe" at 39, the fact is he's only got 20 professional fights. So probably less "shop-worn" than most other 39-year old boxers. We all know that a certain amount of hype and anticipation is needed in boxing for the buildup. In some cases it's totally overdone (and "over-marinated")... and in other cases it falls within the boundaries. It's just that us boxing fans are by nature an impatient group. We want to see all the best matchups now. Which of course is what makes us an endearing group. ;D
I find this matchup refreshing. Here are two top-notch fighters putting it all on the line against one another. No DIVA shenanigans. No stupid clauses, no A-side bullshit... I think everyone here knows where I'm going with this :D
... but I won't. ;D
Still, I'm glad it's finally happening, and it has the makings of one of the best fights of the decade.

Re: Bivol v Beterbiev next!
What Beterbiev does between the ropes, total monster. What happens between fights and leading up to fights I find suspect to say the least. Getting stronger/better at 40. Routinely needing two bites of the cherry to get through a training camp and fight. The ridiculous ambiguity of the 'atypical' finding which is still a fucking mystery to me. It all sounds a bit off to me. Don't get me started on him looking like Non.

Both Beterbiev and Bivol have been full champions at 175 since Nov. '17. Beterbiev defeated Oleksandr Gvozdyk in late 2019 and Canelo Alvarez got in the way with the WBO belt and the Kovalev fight, leaving Beterbiev to snap it up from Joe Smith. Beterbiev's injuries are frequent and he might be more shopworn than we think. There are many to blame for this fight not happening before now but I feel it should have happened in late 2022 if not before then.

I see your points on Beterbiev, and it's true the fight could've occurred a bit earlier. But comparing it to Floyd-Pac is a humongous reach. People had been clamoring for that fight for years, and when it finally happened, both (particularly Pacquiao) were way past their peaks. Pac had even already been "planked" by JMM. The fight itself was a mere empty shell of what it could've been years earlier, a total letdown. No way Bivol-Beterbiev, even at this relatively late date, drops that far down from the anticipated hype.

Man I swear I try to be positive with the two last major cards announced...but ;D. When we're talking Turki "saving boxing" everything but the main event there are basically showcases. These are PPV cards we're talking :-\. The Wardley v Clarke rematch is good but belongs in the UK. And why are two world champions not facing top ranked challengers? Just tune ups. Might have been smart to have a huge match as co main given there are still some speculations about Beterbiev-Bivol being exactly 100 percent certain. Chief support fight etc. But let's not jinx it...the main event WILL happen no worries :jesus:

Re: Bivol v Beterbiev next!
Looks like they're doing the gimmicky dual platforms thing. The entire undercard will be on Dazn PPV and the main event itself is on ESPN+...I'm assuming "free" to subscribers. Why they think this is fan friendly and will actually increase buys I have no idea. More likely to just skip the showcase fights on undercard and just wait for the Bivol v Beterbiev unification elsewhere. Shakur Stevenson as basically a PPV main eventer in what is honestly a tune-up fight ???. Yeh, that will do blockbuster numbers.
There's no way they can put an added ppv fee on this card now. It felt off when fans realized Shakur was going to be the ppv "Main event", but Dazn kept billing it Bivol vs Beterbiev. You did not and do not need Dazn to watch that mega fight on Espn+. Shady promotion works tbh.

There is no way a hardcore boxing fan would pay for all these fights. You have to use streams to watch them as they are on different subscription channels, too many PPV and cost way too much.
