Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Really good fight this.. Back and forth both landing dangerous shots .. even stevens for me at the end of rd 3
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Much better 3rd Wood. Lara did next to nothing sitting on the outside. Needs to behave like the premier puncher in there and stick with what got him to the day.
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Wood wins 3rd by landing hurtful right cross.
2-1 Wood
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
fight warming up in the fourth. gave it to leigh
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Excellent 4th round from both, Lara landed hurtful left hooks and Wood has the accurate right hand.
2-2
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Fun fun 4th there. Wood doing more of what he wants when he wants and honestly making Lara look slo motion. Big exchange middle of round and both holding up thus far.
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Overall Lara landing better body shots and Woods landing the better counter head shots
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
gave the fifth to leigh. i have leigh ahead by four points
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
3-2 Wood for me. Lara started well with left upper-hooks but Wood is seriously sitting down on the left hooks.
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Wood boxing beautifully and accurately to win the 5th round with some nice body shots.
3-2 Wood
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Body language of Lara is horrible there.

Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Wood has his mojo working now. Probably his 'cleanest' round in terms of damage taken in return. 4-2 Wood. Maybe premature but Lara doesn't look like a guy who has a second wind he's waiting for.
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Best round for Wood in the 6th dominating it with Lara visibly hurt by the body shots.
4-2
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
:angryxo4: Peach of a left hook! Who needs a second wind when you pitch cannon balls. Brutal ko

Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Was always a dangerous fight
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Lara stops Wood in the 7th with a brutal left hook.
Do not hook with a hooker!
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Wondering if it could of continued to the end of the round. could have been a differnt fight
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
What's up with the Dazn black jackets trying to stifle basic celebration and pull Lara off the ropes.
Going to be a hard pill to swallow for Wood with corner stoppage, he was fighting a top notch fight.
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Good work mexican, not convinced Lara is especially good but he's tough and he goes for it, British boxers do seem to underperform v the mexicans
-
Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
5 seconds left in the round did Ben panic in Woods corner?

This does ring true. Maybe a premeture towel but Ben knows his fighter better than we do

All the makings of a rematch no doubt. Wood looked genuinely hurt when upright but may have carried on. Then again if rolls reversed, who knows. Fun scrap.

eddie with his fucking rematch clauses

I’m not sure it’s panic, although I totally hear the argument for not throwing the towel.
But what we forget is , in a split second, Davison is also thinking is a minute on the stool gonna be long enough for him to recover?
We have to take into account that from the moment he’s thrown the towel in to Wood’s gallant protestations to Davison talking to him in the corner, Davison was still holding him up and probably 20 seconds had passed.
Ok, you can say, “yeah but see how he responds in that minute and if he’s not all there, then throw the towel in.” Fair point, but Davison’s job is to look after his fighter. He should never be criticised for that by the fans.

Agreed, he is looking after the welfare of the boxer and "better safe than sorry".
Wood was unnecessary trading and leaving himself vulnerable many times in the contest and was visibly hurt numerous times which should have warned him. He had the fight won and got careless.
If Lara can earn more money for the rematch than any other fight then there is nothing wrong with the clause.

Re: Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
MAURICIO LARA had to be separated from Josh Warrington by security moments after his brutal knockout of Leigh Wood.
The Mexican mauler ripped the WBA featherweight title from Wood with a brutal left hook in the seventh round of their Nottingham dust-up.
Former foe Warrington was ringside for Lara's coronation on enemy soil - which almost ended with a post-fight punch-up.
The pair came face-to-face after Lara left the ring but were held back by the heavies at the Motorpoint Arena.
But a fired-up Lara managed to SPIT at Leeds lion Warrington before they went their separate ways.
Warrington told said: "As soon as the fight’s been waved off, he looks over to me. He sees me.
"I actually thought he was looking over at times in between the fight.
"I got off my stool, his head goes forward, he spat on me.
"You know, I can have a little bit of pantomime – shouting and screaming – but somebody spitting on me?
"I’m not having it. It’s got to the stage now that he wants to finish my career – and I’m more than happy to let him have that opportunity.”
Lara admitted to gobbing on Warrington, telling iFL TV when asked about the incident: "Of course I did.
“Because it’s personal between me and him. That’s the way it will always be.
"Of course, I do [want to fight him again]. I’m after you [Warrington]. I’m coming for you.”
Lara and Warrington's clash has paved the way for a mouthwatering trilogy fight, which could potentially take place later this year.
But the rematch clause Wood had placed in his contract to face the Mexican could delay a third showdown.
After his heartbreaking defeat, Wood said: "I am a fighter I wanted to keep going but congratulations to Mauricio Lara.
"I made a mistake and I paid for it. I want the rematch, absolutely."

Re: Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Just watched a video on YouTube from Carl Froch saying he’s spoken to Leigh Wood this morning and Wood admitted that he was gone.
Froch , to be fair to him ate a bit of humble pie and applauded Ben Davison for a good stoppage.
This is the thing , Trainers know their fighters and we have to understand that.

Re: Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Wood got careless, he needed to keep it long
Lara is a vulnerable title holder whose power keeps him dangerous at all times
You can go back & forth on the ending but Davison did what he's paid to do as head trainer, protect his fighter
Wood probably would have survived the round but if he got seriously hurt in the next round, Davison would be getting blamed for not looking out for Wood
Wood can fight another day
-
Re: Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
The initial reaction was interesting. Saw many with "only seconds left" so let him make the round. Does a corner track time, of course! Does a trainer justify damage in order to count seconds. I don't think so. It's not baseball where you reach 'home plate' and you're declared safe. That damage sits on you and all you had to do was watch the pogo legs of Wood trying to find themselves in corner. Didn't notice at first but Lara was to the point of pushing the ref out of the way and already cocking the left. Wood will most certainly fight another day and look forward to it. Same with Lara who looks to have some serious natural "lazy" power. Not as an insult, but that type you don't load up. Or even set properly. He had Wood to the body with it a bit also. It's just that scary casual and natural type power.

Re: Leigh Wood v Mauricio Lara 18/2/23
Leigh Wood was ahead on all three judges' scorecards before he was knocked out by Mauricio Lara in their world title fight.
The scorecards for the fight have now been released as judges Howard Foster and Guillermo Perez Pineda both had Wood up by four rounds to two at the time of the stoppage. Judge Oliver Brien had Lara winning just one round before he landed the knockout blow, given the Mexican the second and all other rounds to Wood.

You do realise that Davison was ready to throw the towel in when Fury went down in the 12th in the 1st Wilder fight ?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xOgi1CeQ6k
As you can see Security and Freddie Roach stopped him from doing that.
Now imagine if Davison would have been allowed to do that ? We'd av a different boxing timeline.
Now everyone says that was a great piece of referring and Fury rose like Undertaker ...blah blah
Davidson get's scared at a nosebleed
But bk to the Wood - Lara fight. 10 seconds left in the round when Wood got up BUT Lara was right on top of Wood when he got up. So the ref would have to push Lara back to the neutral corner that would have took 3 seconds off the 10, then Lara would have had walk bk to Wood when the ref said box from the neutral corner, that's another 3 second of the 10, so wood probably had 3 or 4 seconds to hold on.
Davidson is joke
I mean who is Ben Davidson ? I mean he's like what ? 27 or 28 years old. Never boxed. Never worked his way up but all of sudden BANG out of nowhere at a very young age. He's getting to train all these top fighters. Really ? I know guys who been 20 30 years in the game and ain't got that. And I'm not saying I know every trainer in UK boxing but I 've boxed and I know the trainers that matter
From what I know he was some sort of Life Coach / Counsellor to Tyson Fury. Helping him with his depression. So he goes from being an Uncle Phil to managing fighters ?

So the fact that Leigh Wood said himself that Davidson made the right call doesn’t count for much then? Ok you know best.

Action speaks louder than words. And at the end of fight, looking Wood actions that wasn't of guy who was saying "You made the right call"
